Abraham KO’s Taylor in 12th round – Boxing News

abe44By Jim Dower: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor suffered a crushing defeat tonight against Arthur Abraham, losing by a 12th round knockout in their Super Six tournament fight in Berlin, Germany. Taylor, 31, who like in his fight against Carl Froch in April, wore down after the 6th round, had nothing left in the 12th round, and was badly hurt with a big left hook by Abraham while Jermain was backed up against the ropes.

Abraham, sensing blood, dropped Taylor with a tremendous right hand seconds later that sent Taylor down on the canvas. The bout was then quickly stopped at 2:54 of the round by referee Jose Guadalupe Garcia. One now has to wonder whether Taylor will finish out the Super Six tourney.

This is his 3rd knockout loss in his last five fights and his 4th loss during that time frame. It would be hard to imagine that Taylor would want to continue to fight in the Super Six tourney given the severity of this knockout. He needs to rest and recover from his string of knockout victories and if he continues to fight in the Super Six tourney, he will be forced to face two more excellent fighters before he would be officially eliminated from the action.

  • The German-Armenian says:

This Fight, and most of Arthur’s Fights are won by intellect, which most American boxers lack now days.
Kesler and Arthur will most likely go head to head in the final fight. And in my opinion German based Arthur will triple the amount of fans and dramatically improve his status in world boxing.
Arthur will never lose fans even if he loses a fight, just because the type of a person and a fighter he is.
I thank Arthur, his couch and their team for showing such great sport.

  • THE PROFESSOR says:

Taylor shouldn’t be in the Tournament from the jump. Sakio Bika the IBO king should of been in the 6 man face-off or Taylor vs. Miranda or Green for the ranking.

  • Ralf says:

Even Taylor is now done, there is probably no way to jump out of the contest.

    Some definitions for you, Peter:
    1. A boxingmatch is won if one fighter hits the other one more often.
    2. A hit is when a fighter hits the other fighter on his body or head, not on his defense (as Taylor did all the time).
    3. You need to take into account, how hard hits are.

I (german) agree that in the past (e.g. Henry Maske, Sven Ottke, Regina Halmich) several fight results were doubtful, mainly because of the majority of soft hits even when this looked awful. While judges in Germany and Europe might still prefer technical boxing against power punching, the successful fighters of german promoters today have a different style like those mentioned above and so this kind of decisions did not appear so often in the last 2-3 years, at least not more than in other countries. So please, adjust your perspective, or are you also one of those, booing when the referee warned Froch hitting Direll on the back his head?

For Abraham I am optimistic. He should win in the same manner against Direll. Froch should loose against Kessler, who also will beat Ward. Froch can beat Abraham only in the earlier rounds, but I expect more that he get caught like in the bout against Taylor but Abraham finishing him. As I don’t know the chin of stronger Kessler, I cannot predict if he can beat Abraham.

The tournament idea could help boxing. I still believe that a KO-rule with 8 fighters might be better than the actual mode.

  • Peter says:

Then explain how a boxingmatch is won. Tailor was jabbing all the time while Abraham was just standing and defending. Then two times i opened up and hit Taylor, buts thats not enough to win a match imo. Abraham was infront only because the match was faught in Germany.

  • boxing fan says:

taylor never beat hopkins. Hopkins won both fights clearly. He also lost to winky. He is not a legend like bernard.
Now taylor is about to go to retirement, and I hope he does.

  • Hayk says:

Peter… Your retarded. You need to move on to a different sport.

  • Raklon says:

    Peter number 15

Do I have to remind you that Abraham was leading on all scores at that moment? If Taylor would have survived, Abraham would have won a good UD. So you are completely mistaken when you are saying that Taylor was a better fighter. Did you watch the fight? I seriously doubt it.

  • Peter says:

Taylor was the best fighter. Abraham was lucky to win on KO on a lycky punc so late in the match. Had Taylor held to the end he would have won on points. Abraham didn’t get any points in the first 9 rounds…!!!

  • jesse boi says:

is time to rest jermain.i like the fight between abraham vs kesler.

  • zee zee says:

  • Davey says:

  • Anonymous says:

bad KO hope he’s OK sad to see him like that again. he looked skinny in their 2night i think he sacrificed stamina for punch resistance back fired horribly

  • erin go brawl says:

ya didnt enjoy that ko one bit.taylor seems like a good guy very good boxing skills and he has heart just always seems to run out of gas in the chmpionship rounds

  • Al francis says:

well taylor’s next fight is against one of the Andre’s, he’ll be regarded as the puncher, could be a different story.

    But Abraham was incredible!

  • Jack says:

Taylor suffered a nasty knock-out, on points he could have won it, it was a fairly closely fought contest. Devastating ending for Taylor, I was worried for him for a moment there.

  • joshFROM the UK says:

GILFOID! if froch wins. i dont ever want to see u on ere again!!!!!!!!

  • Kaspa says:

Same, didn’t enjoy watching it but hats off to Abraham.

For me, Taylor needs atleast a year off just to recover and regroup before considering his future.

    Good luck man, love you!

  • Leftie says:

I didn’t enjoy watching that happen to Taylor. I did, however, enjoy Abraham blowing Gilfoid’s prediction out of the water.

  • Alix says:

All over, huge right from Abraham. He sensed the knockdown. It’ll only get harder for Taylor…

  • A.lo says:

Jermaine Taylor is like Jeff Lacy. He had his shine and never recovered from his first loss. I think it’s over for Jermanine.

  • Mikey says:

I was really hoping Taylor would hang in and see the end of the fight. He’s got heart, but that knockout was a HARD blow!

  • ZKO says:

Taylor is totally shot. Time to think of another career.
