Woods: “One Thing I Have Never Done is Quit on My Stool Like Witter”
By William Mackay: Former International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods unloaded on Junior Witter today in an article at Thestar, saying “”He’s [Witter] the most boring boxer around. How many people would pay to watch him? I have had more fans in just one of my shows than he has had in his entire career.”
Woods, of course, is referring to the quit job that Witter did in his last fight against Devon Alexander on August 1st. Witter quit on his stool after the 8th round, complaining that his left arm was injured and that he couldn’t use the arm to fight or protect himself sufficiently.
At the time that Witter quit, he looked to be fighting moderately well and was using his left arm to both block and land punches. With only four rounds to go in the fight, there are some boxing fans and experts who feel that Witter quit on his stool rather than toughing it out in the last four rounds of the fight against the young 22-year-old Alexander.
Boxing fans at the fight in the Agua Caliente Casino, in Rancho Mirage, California, were none too pleased with Witter quitting on his stool in between rounds, and showed their displeasure by singing a long chorus of “Witter the quitter.”
Woods had more to say about Witter: “How many people would pay to watch him? I have had more fans in just one of my shows than he [Witter] has had in his entire career.”
With both Witter and Woods showing what appears to be dislike of each other, it’s too bad that they’re so far apart in size, because this would be the perfect grudge match. However, Witter fights at welterweight now (147), and Woods has always fought as a light heavyweight at 175 pounds.
It’s probably far too much weight between them for the two of them to settle things in the ring unless the Witter and Woods could meet at a catch weight of 160. It’s doable but Witter would probably get hammered out in a round or two under the best of circumstances.

I respect woods more than i do witter.
Both fighters earned their world titles the hard way, none of them were gifted title shots like amir khan and numerous other boxers in the UK.
Witter was out of order by critising Woods. There was no need for it.
As for woods knee jerk reaction… what he said was the truth but he didnt need to say it.
There would never be a fight between these too. Witter relies on speed and reflexes. Theres no way he could make 160 lbs and be in top physical shape. He would be blown up and slow. As for woods, he would be weak and frail having to melt down to 160 pounds.
go woods!
Woods was an honest boxer who did well for himself getting a world title
Witter is talented but full of mouth and refuses to engage in fights in the ring.
Woods is a straight talking guy and Id like to see him replace Barry McGuigan as a commentator
Wood used to talk a lot of crap about that other overated bum Calzage. He was beaten 3 times by Glen Johnson, only to be given the decision twice(in England)
Got to agree, Woods wasn’t the most dynamic boxer but he was a world champ and a good role model. He never went shouting his mouth off about another fighter, and giving al “dollar dollar bills ya’ll” whilst flicking notes at the camera. He always stayed at his station.
woods got knocked around the ring like a rag doll for 6 rounds by roy jones before his corner pulled him out before he died. THATS embaressing too
