Vitali Too Slick For Arreola

vitali453456By Brian Kenneth Blackwell: One could sum up this fight in one sentence. Simply, Arreola was beaten to the punch. Tonight Vitali Klitschko stopped Chris Arreola via a 10th round knock out at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California in front of a packed audience. What appeared to begin as a promising challenge to Vitali’s throne, Arreola’s corner called for the fight’s end at the end of the 10th round with Arreola beginning to take a severe beating, though fighting valiantly throughout the match.

Round 1 began with Vitali creating space for himself, circling the ring firing jabs, followed by straight rights and uppercuts. Arreola seemed content to follow his opponent around the ring, and at times seemed to close the distance between he and Vitali.

As the rounds progressed, it appeared as if Vitali was landing to Arreola’s chin with 2-3 shots before Arreola could get close enough to even fire a shot. At the moment Arreola was successful in getting inside, Klitschko managed to hold until the referee broke the two of them apart.

By the 8th round, Arreola had been chasing Vitali the entire match, and was beginning to show heavy fatigue, thus leaving himself open for heavy punishment. Arreola did not help his case throughout due to his refusal to create angles for Vitali, or at least move his head to avoid punishment, although he at least kept his gloves up, which did not appear to be a very effective defensive method. By this point, it was clear that he had very little power left in his punches as well. With Vitali landing at will, and with his face a bloodied mess, both Arreola’s corner, and the referee called an end to the match at the end of the 10th round.

In the end, Arreola was left a defeated man, as he fell into an emotional, tearful fit as he attempted to deal with the defeat. In his interview, he belted out his tears, and screamed to the audience, largely Hispanic and in his favor, that he would indeed be back.

In retrospect, any knowledgeable fight fan could not help but doubt Arreola’s focus. Not just in the sport, but in general. Not in doubting his talent, or heart, but just his desire to work for his dues. He took a shortcut in jumping the ranks of his competition, in taking on one of the two kings of the heavyweights, and just as many feared he would, he did not appear to take his conditioning seriously. In machismo fashion, he took the attitude of, “this is how I am, f*** it,” and appeared to party his way to fight night, as it showed in his grotesque 251 pound midsection. In the end, one could only wonder what kind of heavyweight Arreola could have been, had he stayed consistent with his work habits.

Vitali once again looked like a Greek god, and performed masterfully in the ring. At this point he appears to be searching for a closing to his great career, with no great challenge on the horizon, with the exception of his brother Wladimir.

hat a joke! Arreolla is useless. This might sound a little harsh, but given the state of heavyweight boxing, it is realistic. For this guy to be a contender is unbelievable. He has no athletic ability or agililty, he fights head on and doesn”t move his head. He has no boxing skill, and no ability to switch to a plan b. Klitchko was able to stick and move all night long. Arreola had to chase him down and put the retreating Klitchko under constant pressure- he didn’t. He simply didn\’t throw punches. Klitcho was the first to the punch every time.
This does not mean that Klitchko was that good. Infact, seeing this, I can imagine Haye embarasing Klitchko. Everyone that Klitchko fights plods in and waits to be jabbed. Haye would put constant pressure on Klitchko, terrorising him into running away and looking amateur- I’m convinced of that. No one actually fights Klitchko, they just wait to get hit. It’s a joke. Chris Byrd had boxing ability, he worked the angles with agility and imagination and won. Klitchko fights slow plodding heavyweights and comes out a winner, he fights Haye, he loses in style. I’m so sure that I’ll be putting a huge bet on it when the fight eventually comes off.
As an aside, why not get Mighty Mo of K1 fame to fight Areolla? A battle of the fatties. My money would be on the Hawaiian!

give Vitaly his due credit he beet the hell out of chris and haye woulda got smashed or anyone else for that matter

  • novesen says:

In anycase it was the most enjoyable Heavyweight fight in many years.

    Constant action
    Constant pressure
    Hardly any clinching
    2 great warriors

  • davy g says:

haye didnt exactly stay long in the cruiserweight division, he prob might not even be the best in it. so what makes anyone think hes ready for the brothers?.

  • mark f says:

this was an outcome that everyone with a bit of boxing knowledge could see.

  • boris says:

haye is full of excuses he was on soccer am yesterday and he was saying he has hurt his leg like a big girl this sounds like another excuse to pull out.

  • The Man says:

Chris never put pressure the right way! All he was doing was chasing Vitali and waited for vitali to throw the first punch!
If your going to chase someone down you dont wait to counter punch! Chris should of never taken this fight! He should of waited at least after the possible fight against Oleg Maskaev in October! One other thing Arreola will have to do besides keep his weight under control is to have more head movement! He has the tools and talent to beat the Klitchkos he just never had the right stratagy! I know Chris is loyal to his trainer Henry but what Chris needs is for some one like Emanuel Stewert with experince of making contender boxers into Champion Boxers!

  • Nick says:

I bet Haye is going to start saying that Vitali fought in a boring manner last night. The fact is, Haye would probably have been knocked out by Vitali’s jab alone.

Arreola has reportedly suffered a broken nose after his fight with Vitali. I wonder whether Haye will actually even make it to his fight with Valuev. Or will Haye back out for some reason or another.

  • An Unbiased Opinion says:

Haye will have no chance against either of the Klitschkos, the brothers are boring as hell to watch but man can they BOX. Just like Mayweather, I hate their styles but NO ONE can deny their skills.

  • Dannyb says:

Theres No doubt Vitalis No1 Hvy out there never actually lost – Cut stoppage to lennox, rtd to Byrd due to shoulder injury – both he was up on Score cards

  • Dan says:

Haye doesn’t want to fight Vitali. He’s been mentioning Wladimir as who he wants to fight if Haye can get by Valuev on Nov 7th. It looks like Haye wants no part of Vitali. It’s not hard to see why. Haye would have been knocked early by Vitali.

  • Dannyb says:

Big Fat tub of lard Arreola is a bum with a padded record, it was always going to be the case once he had a decent challenge.
Vitali and Wlad should be forced to fight? then David Haye faces the winner (pROVIDED HE BEATS THE BIG UGLY HAIRY 1)

  • Joe says:

Arreola looking how he did in the weigh in was never gonna win

Klitschko taller and they weighed the same

David Haye is about 230lbs and he as in shape as you could be. Arreola is 252lbs with less muscle than both but is overweight and is a big factor imo.

Also Klitschko fight bit like Mayweather defencivly they twitch and almost has a fit when someone comes at them

  • EVIL 1 says:

Chris Will need to learn from this fight and be 100% prepaird from now on!

  • EVIL 1 says:

Back to the drawing board in search for an American Hero!

  • Caguas says:

Klitschko completely dominated Arreola as expected. Arreola needs to get back into the gym as soon as possible that way he can put this loss behind him. I think Arreola’s strategy of wearing out Klitscho backfired on him, it looked like Vitali was the fresher man in the ring tonight. Vitali has no one left to fight besides his brother thats why he needs to retire, he has nothing left to prove.
