Roach now thinks Pacquiao Won’t be knocking Cotto out

By Manuel Perez: Well, it’s somewhat of a surprise to see that Freddie Roach has revised his previous knockout prediction for Manny Pacquiao over Miguel Cotto. Roach was saying that Pacquiao was going to destroy Cotto without too many problems, but now Roach is whistling a different tune after seeing video of Cotto fighting.

“I won’t think we’ll knock Cotto out. I think It’ll go the distance and we are going to win very rounds,” Roach says. What I don’t understand is the “we” part. The way that Roach makes it sound, he’s going to be out there in the ring with Pacquiao catching shots while he’s freed up to throw his punches unencumbered. Earth to Roach. You’re not going to be there, so spare me with the ‘we’ comments.

I think Pacquiao is going to wish that Roach was out there helping him before this fight is over, because I think Cotto is going to be beating the stuffing out of Pacquiao on November 14th. It’ll serve Roach right having Pacquiao get leveled and brought back down to earth, because Roach should have been watching tapes on Cotto a long time ago before blessing the fight.

Seriously, I doubt that Roach was even brought into the decision making when the Cotto-Pacquiao bout was dreamed up. Although to hear Roach talk, you’d think he was the mastermind behind it all. I think this was a Arum-Pacquiao decision completely.

I’d like to think that Roach knew enough about how good Cotto is to warn Pacquiao and Arum away from fighting Cotto, but after this admission from Roach that he’s just now sitting down to watch video tapes of Cotto, I’m not so certain.

I bet Roach is panicking now about what to do to try and prepare Pacquiao for Cotto. He knows that Pacquiao is in for a world of hurt in this fight, and that’s why Roach is having coronary trying to get Pacquiao into training camp so quickly. Roach knows that Cotto is a whole lot better than his recent opponents that Pacquiao has been feasting on lately.

I can’t blame Roach. If Pacquiao was my fighter, I’d be worried to because he’s taking a big step up in competition by facing Cotto. Roach will lose a lot of his clout when Pacquiao is beaten and he probably won’t be considered a genius like some people think he is now. I have no idea why they think Roach is a genius.

Cotto is bigger than Marquez, with better power. He’s also more popular, so if the fight is close, Cotto will have a better chance to get the win. It won’t come to that, though, because I see Cotto knocking Pacquiao out.

Perez needs to have a more balanced voice. I understand if you’re not a Pacman fan but please give Pacman his credit: Pacman is humble, god fearing, happy-go-lucky and a fierce warrior.

Don’t hate the player, Perez. Hate the game. Pacman and his team are the best right now and like Manny say’s: “knock me out and you win”

Until then, look in the mirror because you are on the verge of sounding racist.

keep goning up n weight… marquez comn around agn

  • y2papo says:

Cotto will tie up Paquiao inside after effectively cutting the ring. This is the reason so manny of his QUALITY opponents go flat footed before the sixth round. Cotto will win with a body punch and that is more drastic than a good one on the jaw. The worst knokout is the one you conciously cannot recover from to beat the eight count.

  • vertigo501 says:

roach has been over-confident before (against morales I and barrera II) but it’s seldom to hear him talk about pacquiao going the distance with no late round knockouts.
but against barrera I, and dela hoya, pacquiao was the heavy underdog. cotto is no barrera or dela hoya (or even hatton) but if the best scenario so far against the likes of pacquiao was the fight against mosley, cotto will be in for a surprise. mosley was flat footed against cotto. pacquiao’s speed will come from his legs in moving in and out, which will neutralize cotto’s power punches. cotto will be the counter puncher against pacquiao but pacquiao’s punch will be faster. i still look forward to cotto being knocked out by the 5th round.

Pac-man, Bob Arum, and many haters slept when Cotto beat Clottey, it was difficult for people to realize how hard it is to fight 8 rounds with one eye. Cotto not out to put on a show just to satisfy fake boxing fans. He’s only out to punish you and make sure that he does not loose.

That was the only reason why Pac-man asked for Cotto, now Roach knows they moved his boy up way too fast there. Pac-man ain’t sh*t in my eyes, his movements are more to put on a show, it only takes a lucky punch of his to knock someone out. His skills are very foolish and childish. He can not fight well moving backwards!!! He swings too wild with his head down. Sometimes even with his eyes closed like a kid. Always open for uppercuts. He’s fragile compared to Cotto.

Cotto, however, has good moves and is very serious and a lot more sincere on landing his punches. He does not stay open to any uppercuts and he applies pressure on your entire torsoe!

Pacquiao and all you fake boxing fans are out for a rude awakening!

  • Edgar Cintron says:

Cotto is “PUERTO RICAN” and Perez is Mexican!!!!! I disagree with a lot of his comments but this one upcoming fight is way too obvious to the naked eye on who will win!

Let me put it like this: Pac-man can not take on Mosely,Clottey,Judah,Quintanna,Jennings, and many more of Cottos past opponents.

Only a fake boxing fan is blinded by Pac-man’s defeats against a washed up DeLahoya and Hatton. If you gonna comment about your boy then make sence of things, be specific and tell me WHO HAS HE BEATIN’ that he deserves to go up against Miguel Cotto??!!!

  • Edgar Cintron says:

You guys up in here are hilarious!!! Especially Joke Coach who acts as though he has fought Cotto before!!! Bring up all of your 6 points up to all of Cotto’s past opponents ans you’ll see how they’ll laugh it up in your face… You really are a f**kn’ joke!!! lol!

Most of you in here sound as though you don’t know a thing about boxing. This guy joke said Mosely was not neutralized by Cotto then he said he was? Which one is it you retard?

Where when and how in the world does anybody think Cotto will loose??? Even those that are not a fan of either one but knows boxing can tell you Pac-man has no chance… Chacaroy— you said Cotto was slower than DeLaHoya? Are you out your mind? Or did you just started watching boxing? How old are you?

  • adi says:

no way pac man all the way

  • cotter says:

I see Pacquiao taking Cotto lightly. Probably he thinks Cotto struggled with Clottey while he was watching.

While has trained for than a month, Pac will start on 21 sept and that’s 7 weeks only to the fight date on nov.14. Maan, I sense panic on Pacland training camp. First phase will be in Phils and surely withso many distractions, Manny can only count half of actual time. So I guess he will have only a 5 weeks effective training.

Training makes a huge difference. Pac struggled with Barrera II because of that.

I’ve a feeling a motivated and well prepared Cotto can time Pacquiao’s punches and land his own powerful combinations to KO Pacquiao in complete destruction.

  • BokLau says:

We’ll see how good Roach really is, when Pac is fighting someone who’s not old, dehydrated, superslow or overrated. If Marquez schooled Pacquiao, imagine what Cotto will do to him. Pacmaniacs are not admitting it but they are shaking in their knockers. November 14 will be Pac’s funeral.

  • zada says:

!oh now we have another fredy showing how to defeat cotto, thats funny i thought to become a trainer means school and things like that but I can see on this web any can become trainer even some of you guys. give some advice to pac because he will need it,this guy is not one of those guys whom had being defeated,if pac couldn’t with marquez do you really think pac will win this fight?!oh maybe judge gonna win the fight for pac. the truth some times truth hurts doesn’t it !oh let me guess now I became a paquiao’s hater,

  • Death to Perez says:

    LET’S MAKE A DEAL:

MANNY WINS AND KTFO COTTO, YOU NEVER WRITE ANOTHER ARTICLE AGAIN

COTTO WINS, AND YOU ARE THE REAL DEAL AND I GET YOU A JOB AT ESPN

  • Sam says:

Perez – You will never understand boxing.

Speed Kills! And Pacquaio will use that advantage against Cotto!

yes Cotto will land some hard punches on Pac and try & cut the ring off, but the bottom line is, Pac will win this fight, and probably by stopping Cott in the later rounds!

Cotto might look like he has a good defence to the novice boxing fan but even a strong but average skilled boxdr like clottey exposed cotto’sdfence!

  • mack herrera says:

I think Freddie is doing a very good job by minimizing what punishment or damages cotto will get on November 14. Manny will destroy Cotto no doubt about it! Manny’s punch is very hard and powerful that when Cotto receives it, he’ll think about a quick way out…

  • matt w says:

yep complete train wreck of writer!

and WE means TEAM u fool! Thats WE = TEAM, u got it it! Bloody moron……

  • sercab says:

Perez, I know you’re in for Cotto but I doubt you of being a boxing writer coz it’s more of a circus! Are you blind…? why in the hell Pacquiao gain the No. 1 spot for pound for pound boxer by a Ring magazine , Yahoo sports,Fighter of the year by BWA etc.if you dont see Pacquiao having real wins on quality fighters…Who”s telling the truth?wake up man…you should give a credit whenever it’s due.

  • HUH says:

One more thing I cant wait to see the undercard of Soto vs. Valero, we get to see if Valero can hang with a very good fighter or is he just been carefully brought up.

  • RAZOR says:

Here you go again Perez with your anti-Pacquiao antics. You and bozo writer Santiago must be on METH. You guys are hallucinating. For all i know, you could be Pacquiao’s publicist. An angle of negative publicity is a way to hype up the fight. Don’t go soft on us if Cotto is defeated. Hmmmmm let me see, Cotto was weight drained. Cotto was over-trained. Cotto was not in his familiar territory. Hmmm how about make up a story that Margarito contacted Pacquiao and gave advice on hand wrapping technique.

  • HUH says:

So some writer wrote Hatton is a lower version of Hatton?? I dont think the best of Hatton can beat the worst of Mosley that fought Mayorga. Also what IF Cotto and Marquez wins??? Then whats the next step??

  • huh says:

Roach needs to stick to trainnig fighters and thats it. He needs to quit making predictions.

  • Carlos says:

Perez, you da man! Now you’re beating down Da Man’s coach who has Parkinson’s Disease. If you weren’t such a hoot I would just think you were a ignorant hater. But you dig up some of the most ancient and hilarious stuff that I just can’t help but be entertained. Reading your articles is like watching a train wreak.

  • Juan Jaramillo says:

Remeber me now? Washington? UD. Yeah man sorry to say you got your articles twisted. I wish you the best of luck though but for real as a former fighter you should know better.

  • Anonymous says:

with the way pacquiao is doing so far, i would think that he cannot win against cotto come fight night. his over-confidence will definitely knock himself out. i just hope i will be wrong.

  • BREAKING NEWS!!! says:

You’re the best, Perez! From your number #1 fan.

  • BREAKING NEWS!!! says:

I totally agree with you Perez. Keep telling it like it is.

  • Chacaroy says:

I still think Pacquiao wins by TKO. Unlike Mosley and Clotty as well as the others who fight flat footed, Pacquiao moves all the time on his toes. His punches come from all angles and are still very powerful and explosive. Cotto is noticeably slower than Del Hoya, Marquez, Barrera and Morales, all those Mexican greats.

Pacquiao is faster than all of them. We saw how easily he hit the target.

If Cotto lasts for 12 rounds and Pacquiao wins all 12 as Roach predicts, this can only mean that Cotto will get a very bad experience in the ring. I hope he doesn’t get seriously hurt.

  • joke coach says:

Life has a positive and negative sides. Even though Perez took negative side when he wrote his article; however, if you reverse his article, it is some what hint hint you some thing.

I was suprised that Roach change his prediction, but after watching Mosley-Cotto fight again then I know why. Here is why

    - 1. Cotto wasn’t able to neutralize Mosley; however, in their fight Mosley made an early mistake which allows Cotto to neutralize his speed.

    - 2. Cotto’s signature punch is his left hook to the body. In order to land, Cotto has to go toe to toe with his opponent.

    - 3. If Cotto could not hurt his opponent with his signature punch, he will lose his confident (seen in the fight with Magarito)

    - 4. when Cotto move and punch, his punch does not have power.

    - 5. Cotto is very very open for UPPER CUT when backing or forwarding.

    - 6. Cotto left hook is very very predictable because he swing his body and lower his hand (seen in Mosley fight when Mosley lands 3 over right hand consecutive)

I bet you Roach see a lot more than I do. I a Cotto fan and really worry for Cotto now, because once Roach want to go distance, Cotto gets less chance to catch Pacquiao. The more chance Cotto catch Pacquiao, the more chance he will win.
