This includes his past fights as a pro, in which he lost a 5th round KO to one of Maloney’s fighters some years back and that fighter happened to be in McDermott’s corner, as well as his other dubious decisions. - This fight was not as close as the Valuev vs Holyfield bout. Also, that bout was for a world title and any ratifications made afterwards would of had big ripples through the boxing world. It would of set a standard. This bout however was only for the English heavyweight title and therefore anything about it afterwards would have little effect on anything but the domestic scene. It would also put the board in a good light, something they would want. - Maloney paid a record purse to get the fight, so he won't sit back and allow himself to get screwed over. Not only that, he was the main promoter and paid a lot of money to promote the fight, money which wouldn't of been funded with the loss. - There was a lot of heavy betting before hand, mostly by gypsies. This could have a domino effect of problems, although the majority of this heavy betting was in favour of fury (coincidence? I don't like Maloney, but I do think Terry O'Connor needs to be held accountable and his motives questioned.
