Mayweather Mows a Little Yard for a Lot of Money

mayweather54334324By Conrad Allan: What is it about the sport of boxing that entices people to demand more of a boxer than they themselves would offer or condone within the confines of their own career? He is a warrior! He challenged the best! He is humble! He cherrypicks! He’s a safety first fighter! He is a fraud! All of these statements have been used in one form or another in reference to the upcoming fight between Marquez and Mayweather.

For Mayweather, he has garnered much more hate than any other boxer in this generation. Why? Because he mows a little lawn for a lot of money, of course! By making a comparison to a lawn care company, Mayweather chooses the job that requires less work for more money. Hey, Mike “So and So”, I want you to choose between two lawns to mow for me for the same payment.

The first is a fourth of an acre without small trees and shrubbery, and the second is a full acre with trees and shrubbery. Well, Mike “So and So” would be a fool to pick the second for the same payment. But when it comes to fighters we expect them to risk their lives even if they don’t get the mooch: for their legacy, for our entertainment. Mayweather once said Bob Arum offered him slave wages.

Slaves in Rome fought in the coliseum for the masses entertainment with great risk and hardly any reward. It seems, when it comes to Mayweather, we would ask the same thing. How dare he treat his career with risk management principles? The same principles that any successful corporation in this country operates under. The common man or woman would take great care to treat their own lives and businesses with these principles to insure the maximum return on an investment if possible.

Whether mowing a lawn, painting a house, or chopping a tree. If the job is a lot more dangerous, you want a lot more money! Just because there are fighters who do not take care of themselves in this regard and choose to take fights that ultimately end their careers and cause long term damage is no reason to deny Mayweather his right to do so.

There have been warriors who risks their lives throughout history, but only the smart warrior wins in the end. Mayweather knows that regardless of how he acts or who he fights the masses will forget him. If he fought every Welterweight out there the masses will never change their minds.

They will want him to do the hardest job for the least amount of money. They will want his blood to spill, his skin to crack and split, and his heart to explode in the wage of battle. And that is fine . . .in the movies! We would never operate under such guidelines for our own careers that keep our families fed and clothed. It’s ridiculous that I should even have to ask, “Hey, which lawn will you mow?”

He is not a safe boxer, instead a coward boxer trying to go away of the fight…this is boxing match and not dancing routine…

  • Paulo 'Hardman' Harrison says:

    Excellent article!

Point is, I wouldn’t take too kindly to that lawn mower going around saying he has the hardest job and mows the biggest lawns when he clearly does not.

You hit the nail on the head, Mayweather does not take the biggest tests in boxing, he picks opponents he feels he can beat easily. There is no problem with that at all, he’s a good looking guy with a family to feed.

Just don’t insult my intelligence by telling me you’re the best out there when you’re clearly not.

Mayweather will never win the majority of the fans over, this is for many a reason.
However, he did beat the best, upto a point in his career. His fans and his critics controlled who he fought for a good few years. The bouts happened, and he beat them.
We all know Mayweather couldnt satisfy all the fans at once. He would have been avoiding someone else, whether he was facing the P4P best or not.
This is were the business comes into it. He stopped listening to what the fans and his promoter wanted and went for the big money fights. (De La Hoya and Hatton)

Actually James, it’s 17 lbs in between his fight between ODLH and the first Barrerra fight. And no, it’s not very difficult to gain that much weight in a span of 6 years. At 130, Pac was dehydrating himself…everyone knew that 130 was too small for him. He still looked like a skeleton at 135. When he fought ODLH at 142, he only put on 5 lbs, which is not a lot compared to other fighters who put on 10-15 lbs…so no, you can’t make a case that Pac’s on steroids based on the fact he’s gained 17 lbs in 6 years.

You can turn this around and say would you hire someone who takes the easy way out..i.e. the mowing the easy lawn, or would you hire someone who would do the more difficult lawn for the same amount of money? If mayweather continues to mow the little law, no one is going to hire him i.e. no one is going to buy his fights, which is exactly what’s happening now with his fight against JMM.

  • phil says:

if mayweather wants to mow the little lawn instead of the big one, thats his prerogative. He can earn money taking the easy path then thats all good, most of us would choose to do the same. But when you’re comparing him to someone like Manny Pacquiao, someone who had no choice but to mow the big lawn with shrubs and bushes in the way if he wanted to make the same kind of money, you can only make one conclusion… Mayweather has not proven to be a great lawn-mower.

  • unknown says:

In the case of Mayweather he choose to mow the first option (quarter acre wihouth tress). But he only mow half of it and demanded twice the money. Then he told every body that he mowed 5 full acres with a lot of trees (for a small amount because he is a nice guy – the new Mayweather image).

I can put up with Gilfoid, Perez and Santiago spouting bias rubbish on a daily basis (it is actually a guilty pleasure of mine) but this article is utter nonsense!!!
Most boxers have a drive and a will to be the number 1 in the world, the money, although never ignored should be second to the will to reach the top.
Mayweather boasts how he is the top P4P in the world, if that is the case he should be fighting the best not cherry picking lesser opponents.

  • renton says:

Bla bla bla!! it is so hard to live and let die? that guy is the way he is, WTF??? give him a break!!!

  • sadmismatch says:

i agree 100% with the writer if it was floyd mayweather sr. he was talking about and also should be marquez fighting.

  • nepster says:

Also, Mayweather makes no bones about he’s in it for the money, but he also says he’s fought the very best. Which is it? What annoy’s people is when he constantly argues that he’s fought the best when he hasn’t in the past 4-5 years. He’s obviously in it for the money, so he should just leave it at that, people will still criticize him, but he could ask, what would you do? Instead he harps on like a 5 year old about being the best, when he hasn’t faced the best.

  • nepster says:

Boxers take pride in heart, courage, and claiming to be the best. Taking the path of least resistance displays none of the above. That’s the difference between a business and a boxer, at least a boxer who people a vast majority of people regard with respect.
