Lennox Lewis Not Sure Whether Haye Will Beat Valuev
By Scott Gilfoid: Former International Boxing Federation/World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis sounds less than confident that British heavyweight contender David Haye (22-1, 21 KO’s) will have success as a heavyweight or beat WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KO’s) on November 7th, at the Arena Numberg Versicherung, in Nuremburg, Germany.
I actually thought Holyfield beat him [Valuev] , and he’s going to have trouble catching up to David. But if Valuev puts his weight on him [Haye], it’s a lot to have to push off. David will be trying to hit these guys and knock them out, but these guys don’t move easily.”
So true, Lewis. Thank you for your wisdom. I’ve been saying the same thing for ages since Haye first got the idea to move up to the heavyweight division. Haye is simply too light for the division and doesn’t have the chin to compete against the big boys like the Klitschko brothers and some of the other big heavyweights.
Even the not so big heavyweights in the division, like Odlanier Solis, Lamon Brewster, and Alexander Povetkin would probably be too much for the glass-jawed Haye. I’m not a fan of Valuev in any way, but even he might be too much for the little Haye to deal with. Lewis has it right.
If Haye can move around the ring and avoid Valuev, then Haye will have a good chance to win the fight. But it Haye gets over confident or lazy, he’ll be mauled the same way he would be if he stepped in the cage with a Kodiak bear. Valuev will lean on Haye, hit him with short punches and throw around like a play thing on the inside. I can just see it.
Haye will have a sad, helpless look on his face, as if he’s a trapped lamb about to be slaughtered by the huge 7 foot Valuev. Right now, Haye is pretty cocky, the way he always is before he steps in the ring with one of his typically over-matched opponents. But in this situation, Haye isn’t taking on one of his lackluster, untalented cruiserweight opponents. Haye is taking on a heavyweight the size of a bear and with the power to test Haye’s glass chin.
Looking into the future, I see Haye as having a lot of problems unless he’s matched very carefully. He won’t get much bigger than 215, roughly the same size as Holyfield. But Haye won’t have the chin that Holyfield possessed earlier in his career and will be getting knocked out like clockwork once Haye starts stepping it up against better heavyweights than Valuev.
I have a sinking suspicion that Haye won’t make it past Valuev on November 7th. If Valuev can lay glove on Haye, I see him staggering the British heavyweight hopeful and sending him down on the canvas where he’ll be counted out. My only hope is that Haye will move back down to the cruiserweight division where he belongs.

Not bothered who wins to be honest as long as its a good fight I don’t care. A TKO would be great.
I think that if Haye catches the other fella early he may go, but the longer the fight goes on,and the more the other fella leans on,smothers, messes and ties haye up, the more of a chance he has.
I would like haye to win simply because it will breath life into what has been for a long time, an extremely boring collection of plodders.
Valuev does not have the power to test Haye’s chin at all, he’s got as good power as a super middle at best.
im a cornish man, loved the tyson days.
that was great reading cant wait for the fight,
also don, why are you lot even interested in what happens between brit fighters and foreign non americans?. it just proves what i said. you wont catch me commenting on arreola v wlad because i couldn’t care less who wins. and you talk about wlad but look at his record, name me one credible opponent he has beaten? hes been beat by two people that aren’t exactly the greatest of heavyweights as in lamon brewster and corrie sanders and these are probably the best two hes faced. the rest of his record consists of relative nobody’s, im not saying wlad is no good but hes not what hes made out to be. and yes haye is up against it as he has moved up and is a relatively small heavyweight but at least hes got the bottle to try
keep removing peoples postings and people WILL go else where !!
and at least haye, hatton and the rest of the brits have the bottle to go to another country and challenge the best, unlike you lot that stay in the don king paid judges comfort zone of america. we kept hearing how roy jones was super man but he wouldn’t fight nigel benn who offered to give jones all the purse and fight him anywhere in america and he bottled it from steve collins too. we do put our money where our mouth is so why dont you lot?. also tyson ducked lewis until he needed a pay day!. don king paid judges when lewis faught holyfield the first time and also paid the wbc to make tyson the number 1 contender even after lewis had won a fight to be number 1 contender.
you just admited it with your post! lmfao. why dont the yanks put their money where their mouth is? is it because you have no fighters apart from mayweather ?. because weve heard your mouths over and over like with jeff the tyson of super middleweight lacey ! . and we all know what happened there. then after he got schooled by calzaghe you lot changed your tune and made excuses. same with hatton v malignaggi, lewis v tyson, lewis v holyfield, the list is endless but we cant win whatever we do, youll always make excuses or move on to another fighter. none of the brits will ever get credit by you yanks and scott proves it with every dumb biased racist article
We’re not adopting foreign fighters as our own. We just know who the better fighter is. If Haye is better than Wlad, then lets see him prove it. If he’s better than Vitali, lets see him prove it. Obviously Hatton was’nt the better fighter, so why all the talk about us “Yanks” hating Brits??
We dont hate Brits…we just want em to put their money where their mouth is.
love the way yanks keep adopting foreign fighters as their own, first it was pacqiao against hatton, the klitchsko when he was fighting haye, now its valuev, its pure desperation to try and get one over on us brits because their boxing scene died long ago. the only brit beater they have is mayweather and he cherry picks smaller opponents. lmfao
love it! scott you haven’t a clue. i love these yanks. first they adopted klitchsko as their own when he was fighting haye, now theyve adopted arreola even though hes mexican and theyve adopted valuev lmfao. the yanks will support anyone to get one over on us brits, absolute desperation because their boxing scene is dead, the only brit beater they have is mayweather and he cherry picks smaller opponents! lmfao
Haye is more exciting than any present american heavy weight, Evander Holyfield beat Valuev and Holyfield is no where near D.Haye in regards to age and Power!
Four comments and youve failed to wind up any Brits! Your in danger of becoming something of an unbiased, balanced writer! Must try harder
My money is on haye winning on points.
He will go for the knock out, but if hes not powerful enough (nobody so far has even knocked this man down in over 50 fights), then he will dance around and win on points.
Lets hope the ref doesnt let valuev hold hold and hold.
Can Haye even reach Valuev’s face to knock him out???
Maybe he should be allowed to stand on his corner stool.
