“Money” Mayweather dominates Marquez to win an overwhelming UD

By Sam Gregory: After a 2 year hiatus from boxing Floyd Mayweather Jr makes his comeback in the welterweight division at a catch weight against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Casino, Las Vegas. Mayweather didn’t make the catch weight limit of 144 pounds that was agreed upon before the fight instead weighing in at 146 pounds to Marquez’ 142 pounds; the fight otherwise got off without a hitch; well beside the fact that Mayweather had to pay $600,000 in penalties to Marquez for not making weight.

Mayweather looked as fresh and sharp as he ever has in this one-sided bout against the undisputed lightweight champ. Marquez wasn’t able to land anything substantial against the very slick defense of Mayweather. It was clear from the opening bell that Mayweather was the bigger stronger man who landed his leaping left hooks at will.

mayweather45234In the 2nd round Mayweather landed a left uppercut that dropped Marquez hard but the very game Marquez beat the count.. As the fight wore on it became more and more apparent that Marquez was over-matched in this one-sided beat down by the former pound for pound king. It also became apparent that the “former” will soon be erased from that last statement. When Mayweather was caught flush by one of Marquez’ punches he just smiled and shrugged it off.

By the championship rounds it was obvious how over matched Marquez was sporting a cut over one eye while wearing the result of Mayweather’s quick right hand and left hook’s on his reddening face.

At the end of the 12th and final round the fight went to the judge’s scorecards: 118-109, 120-107 and 118-108 all for the winner by unanimous decision Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather improved his unbeaten record to 40-0 with 25 KO’s while Marquez fell to 50-5-1 with 37 KO’s.

He shouldn’t have changed the contract and pay Marquez what’s due him..From 2 million dollars to 600 thousand dollars…just a few days before weigh-in..although the outcome would have been the same had he came in at the agreed catch weight but it’s still cheating in its cheapest form!

  • Henry L says:

He can’t even finish off a 37 year old boxer, that tells you Floyd doesn’t have the power.

  • Luis says:

My respects to JMM to take on a heavier, faster, smarter boxer that mayweather could not even FINISH…lol….the MEXICAN WARRIOR lasted all 12 rnd..that is pretty sad Floyd……GO MARQUEZ….MEXICO has & will have great boxers that are never backing down no matter how big the dog is….So there is Mosley, Margarito, Pac man, Chavez jr(Undefeated 40-0-1-37)impressive..and cotto…so I think he will pick RETIREMENT…CHICKEN..GREAT JOB MARQUEZ…

  • danny says:

juan marquez is shot, juan diaz did the final damage.

it was a cheat fight, jmm couldn’t beat the top fighters at lightweight, he just need the retirement money from pbf. now, he can go away.

  • Herdeep Shergill says:

    2 Cut the story short:

Floyd needs to fight in his next fight one of the following to get the respect he seeks: (order of preference)

    1. Shane Mosley
    2. Paul Williams
    3. If not either, then atleast cotto/pac winner
    4. If none of these options… Then plz retire (too boring for ppv)

  • craig says:

marquez was too bublky trying to make the weight he was slowed thats why mayweather won so easily however floyd looked un beatable im the same want him to fight a genuine welterweight then we will see

  • james says:

im happy for floyd but i wish he would start fighting people in his welterweight category instead lightweight marquez light welter hatton maybe a contest between mosley or williams would put floyd under a little more pressure because these guys can dig hard. i think he would beat pacquiao but only by a whisker. but hey well done floyd why dont you throw some of that spare cash my way haha
