Should Hatton face the loser of Cotto vs. Pacquiao?

hat411By Liam Santiago: As a boxing expert, I am happy. Ricky Hatton has announced he will fight again and he will be aiming for the pound for pound title. The big question every boxing fan is asking is who is he going to fight? Of course, he is coming of a lethal knock out defeat, which was mainly down to his preparation and a certain Poet. Why not go after the loser of Pacquiao vs Cotto? Both will be coming of a defeat and both will be big money spinners.

Of course, if Cotto beats Pacquiao and Hatton does manage to get his rematch, there will be an uproar. The critics will surface. Hatton is ‘shot’ they will say. Hatton is not in Pac-Man’s league. Well, critics, that is where you are wrong. The demon’s from Hatton’s defeat to Pacquiao will not be as great as people assume. He knows why he lost. He knows he did not lose because of talent of quality. He lost simply because, he was past his peak and his trainer had mentally shook him up prior to the fight. He would have a completely different approach next time round.

If a miracle happens at the Cotto vs Pacquiao fight and Cotto somehow loses, he would also make for a great opponent for the big punching, major ticket selling, knock out artist, Ricky Hatton. What a clash of styles that would be. Like Hatton, Cotto is a major ticket seller, so the fight would also make financial sense. This would be an opponent for Hatton that I could not predict a victory for either fighter. Both are simply class. However, watching Cotto beat Clottey, I saw a lot of flaws and opportunity’s that Hatton would not have let go by the way side.

Would Pacquiao have the guts to face Hatton again? I would give him full credit if he does. When Ricky is at his peak, I really can not see the Filipino beating him. The circumstances prior to the Pacquiao fight had an impact on Hatton’s punch resistance. If the loser of the Cotto vs Pacquiao fight does fight Hatton, I am sure we will be looking at a Hatton/Pacquiao rematch. Adios.

Liam Santiago’s view is extremely opposed to popular belief specially here in the Philippines. So be it. Predicting the outcome of a fight can be weighed down by personal bias. Ultimately, the truth is decided in the ring. No excuses.

  • THE PROFESSOR says:

Ricky said he’s Furious with Zab Judah and Zab said Ricky Hatton is a Paper Fighter, he’s not a real fighter like him. Zab said he’ll fight Ricky at has best weight 140 if Ricky’s not Scared like his Brother Matthew Hatton who Chicken out of the fight. Ricky or Zab who would win. Zab and Ricky are Former Champions so why not, make this Fight happen. Ricky if you turn this fight down then just retire like Oscar did. There’s nothing left.

  • tomaz cep says:

Agree. So biased article, the article is your personal perception. Seems like your writing fiction. Wake up….

  • aci ray says:

You said hatton is past his peak when he fight the pacman. both are 30 yo and at 30 hatton is past his peak. Don’t ever think for a rematch, at 31 or more yo hatton is past past his peak, he cannot face great fighters. He should retire if he is past his peak. No one will want to see fighter saying his past his peak.

  • WOODLEY says:

Of course Pacquaio has the balls to fight hatton again, easy 20 million again for him.

  • oopscotto says:

Pro at 16, Pacquaio is a pure fighter, proven.
He is trouble for anyone. Another Hatton fight would be kind of silly.

  • joe zamora says:

yes but wieght 50 years and they can fight with there walking canes maybe that way hatton has enought time to train in cane fighting

  • elz says:

Your an idiot and ricky is hot trash

  • scotty returns says:

  • deano says:

ithink u all chat bull hatton lost the fight fair and square but his lifestyle is a big factor as he puts on loads of weight but thats his own problem and u lot sayin cotto would knock hatton out is bull hatton is to good for cotto who relies on power which hatton has plenty of and speed if hatton is at his peak the fight would end with ko or a decisive points win for hatton and as for pac man lets just see if rematch would happen if it did it should be in england as farewell fight and as i say again hatton prepared and at peak would be to strong for pac man which would end in revenge ko for hatton peace out

Bugzlife everyone that knows the tiniest bit about boxing knows Hatton not being had his peak was to do with problemsin training camp etc. Age doesn’t mean peak, what you think every boxer’s talent depends in their age? idiot

“Im latino but never want to say Im latino because I have shame of our people and people like you.” What the ****! Cold expression dude. You can’t judge all latinos like this. I’m Puerto Rican and i’m proud of being LATINO! My hats off to all the immigrant latinos who struggle everyday in this country to build a better life, a better future and give their families the benefits they never had.

  • just_box says:

you’re just a ****ing *d**t, calling yourself” boxing expert is moronic… you talk too much, are you even a man?

  • Ace says:

I use to like hatton till he started making excuses for the lost… I never heard pacman had an excuse when he lost!!! This writer is as bad as manuela perez

  • teo says:

I don’t know about this but i know that Cotto will be the Pacquiao nightmare on nov 14. Cotto is not Hatton and Roach knows that very well. He knows that Cotto and Mosley are too much for Manny because they are heavy punchers an they are boxers with skils. I like Pacquiao, is a very good boxer but not for this two, because they are big and to stong for him. And Hatton with Cotto?! Cotto will put Hatton on the canvas with little truble. I don’t know if hatton should continue to fight anymore.

  • bertgomes says:

Yes this writer is moron….He knows Pacquiao is too fast and he’s punch is too precisely to hit Hatton! Why somebody out there is not accepting that Hatton is a loser in that match? Hatton….better luck next time man…………..

  • kinge says:

Boxing expert? hahahahahahaha. I dare ya to go a full month without writing about ricky hatton…..in fact I dare ya to stop writing altogether!!!!

  • teo says:

Hatton is a one dimentional fighter. That’s it. He won’t has a chance with the counter puncher like Miguel Cotto!

  • Anonymous says:

PROBLEM IS HATTON TELEGRAPHS HIS PUNCHES.

    PAC DOES IT TOO

ROACH PROTECT PAC FROM REAL BOXERS WITH POWER.

  • Matt Porter says:

bugzlife im sorry but thats daft, its obvious why Hatton hasn’t been in his prime this year, he has taken more blows than Pac and hasn’t lived as well outside of the ring. Pretty simple really. That is his own problem of course.

  • Pac Scorp says:

    Mr Santiago,

    Quote:$$As a boxing expert, I am happy$$

Hey, where did you get those lines, I believe same in the garbage bin like Mr Perez.
The way I read your article its all full of nonsense and making more hype to Pacman itself and getting hits of course.

    Pls explain:
Quote: Would pacquiao has the guts to face Hatton again?

I dont think you can because its all coming from the garbage bin and you really dont know how to write a good factual article.
Its nonsense what you are saying, as Hatton wouldnt ask for a rematch after that awesome K.o he got.

Your Editor is just tolerating your stories because of the hits its getting and good for 24.com
The more you discredit Pacman, the more his popularity will rise and more PPV sales in all his fights.
Try to hype up more better Mayweather_Marquez.

  • Sonny Pig says:

Im really surprised reading articles ’bout this kinds of experts , i can’t take it anymore, why r u sorely mad with manny pacquiao and put so much bad intentions to his achievements!? Did Pacquiao demeanored both of u personally? What the hell is going on ur mind?Give the boxer his due, he did great in the ring and entertained so much of the fans, not trash talking to other wat others have practiced. You are both a ridicule in this site! Please practice proper judgement ok, that’s all!!!

  • ej says:

liam girl, you are just like manuela! boxing expert? who…you??? bwahahahahahahahahaha!!! you are delusional liam. you cannot see pacquiao beating hatton? he already did, in two EFFORTLESS round. if you say hatton is that good, explain the two rounds then, boxing expert? had he been half as good as you claim him to be, he could have lasted at least 3 rounds.bwahahaha!!! may i ask you something liam? do you have a brain?

  • KevReilly says:

Boxing expert? Remember the old gag that defines an expert? A cross between a has been and a big drip.Hatton has certainly lost his drawing power, yet this writer can’t see that.He lacks the status to demand the big-name fights now. This writer should transfer to fiction writing. Then again, that’s what he’s doing now!.

  • peter says:

I think Hatton should fight Valero to boost his credibility. If not, perhaps it may be only Liam and his relatives who could be interested in buying tickets for Liam’s suggested fight.

  • philbox says:

i couldnt agree u more bugzlife.

  • bugzlife says:

why was hatton not in his peak on may 2, 2009? both he and pacquiao were 30 years of age. dumb excuses from a dump writer.

  • jonathan says:

cotto will destroy hatton .. an pacman will murder hatton again ricky should fight bradley or khan i would like to see that fight.

  • MA Cotto says:

Oh come on….if Pacman gets Hatton again we will see a repeat result….and as for Cotto………i’d bet my house Hatton could not beat him!

  • alex t says:

    nicely put webber

  • Witness says:

Liam is a manuela perez wannabe! Chinga tu madre maricon!

  • Webber says:

    Liam,

Please dont put down our ethic with biased articles like this, Im latino but never want to say Im latino because I have shame of our people and people like you just are making sure that never change.

I dont mind that you spend your time writting biased info because I know this is all about getting the hit on the advertisements in this site but young boys that come here dont deserve to fillup their minds with biased information because they dont know the business behind this and they give credit to the word from an “expert” as you call your self.

We just need to know when we are crossing the line and when too much is too much.

Logic says that the best way to get attention in boxing nowadays is talking against the king of boxing and champion of the people Manny Pacquio.

I know you are not jelous about Pacquio success or that you hate him. I know that you guys love him and maybe are his #1 fan but I know you go after the $$$.

Pacquio dont need you to call him God but please give credit where credit is due and that we go back to you.

You know you are better than this my friend, trust yourself, let your heart do the talking and start since this moment writting the right stuff be confident that you are going to have success, forget about bad past experience and think in a possitive way. Here is my e-mail if you want to exchange some ideas with me. weebber676@hotmail.com

    Take care.

  • Blade says:

    Ridicalous report

  • RealDeal says:

CocoMotion: That is exactly how i want it to be too. Pacquiao vs Mayweather (the true pound for pound champ fight) And the winner of that fight will fight between the winner of Marquez & Hatton (revenge fight).

  • Matt Porter says:

Hatton is not stupid enough to go for the pound for pound title again, and it is unlikely he would coax 30,000 people over for a rematch with pac. I think he needs to fight Marquez perhaps, should he lose to floyd which lets face it he most probably will. I am a big Hatt fan, but im not sure if he should come back at all.

  • Dazzabarrel says:

This writer is a moron! I was there. I even bet on Hatton. God knows I would have liked him to win. He even boxed like he said he would, but Pac was too fast, too accurate, and too powerful. Why would anyone want to see that again, and only an insane person would expect a different result. Wishing it were so, does not make it so.

Having said that, I must say I am a big Pac Man fan. Everytime I bet with him, I win.

  • scottymo says:

Liam Santiago begins every one of his articles with “I’m a boxing expert”….dumb

  • CocoMotion says:

No. Pacquiao fights Mayweather next. JM Marquez should fight Hatton. Cotto fights Margarito.

  • al says:

I think the lack of comments answers that question: Yes.

  • gmoney says:

I have a question for the readers..” Did Liam Santiago destroy his credibility as a boxing writer with this article”
