Pacquiao – Taking the Easy Way To The Top
By Liam Santiago: I was going to write a well documented article on the marketability and quality of many young boxing talents around the globe, from countries such as Britain, USA, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Then I realized, hey, I need the hits. So, I’m going to have a bit of a rant about Pacquiao. Why is he building a legacy out of nothing. Yes, the non boxing fans will be fooled by his opponents disadvantages but experts such as myself certainly are not.
He is preparing to fight Cotto, who, as a matter of fact is also being forced to shed the weight and come in two pounds under the maximum welterweight limit which the bout is taking place at. That’s fair enough, however, Cotto has been forced to place his welterweight title on the line because Pacquiao wants to win his 7th title in as many divisions. Maybe this works in Pac land but for everyone else this is daylight robbery.

For the record, Pacquiao was once again voted Fighter of the Year;included as top 100 influential people of the world;praised by Sugar Ray Leonard, Lennox Lewis, Arturo Gatti, and even Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield as one of the best fighter of his era. How could you disrespect his accomplishments! The catchweight of 145 lbs is well within the welterweight limit and the great Sugar Ray Leonard and superstar ODLH used it. There’s no way it would tarnish Pacquiao’s victory if he wins. Cotto’s contention is that he agreed to the 145lbs catchweight but the original contract does not put the title on the line. Pacquiao was not aware and was ill advised that even at catchweight, the title could be on the line if they agreed to and is sanctioned by lthe organization. The WBO has officially issued a statement that Cotto should put his title on the line since Pacquiao is a legitimate challenger and Arum agreed to pay the fees. Period. End of discussion.
“…Then I realized, hey, I need the hits. So, I’m going to have a bit of a rant about Pacquiao….”
ROTFL
For anyone complaining about the $1 million fine for not making weight, I think there was a similar fine for the DLH fight. It is especially important for Team Pac, because of the magnitude of the event. Cotto could otherwise show up a few pounds over, and pressure Pacquiao into fighting anyway. Cancelling the fight the day of the event would look bad for both fighters. If you guys remember what happened at Castillo-Corrales II, you probably should understand Pac’s concern here.
…why, if you are an expert, as what you are telling yourself and bragging it to this site, why then you are calling this 145 lbs as a catch weight for a welterweight title when in fact it is within the range of the welterweight? is it in the book, guidelines and laws of boxing that all the fighters should be fighting at the maximum limit of any weight? i am not an expert nor knows boxing that well, but common sense will dictate that this 145 lbs weight were well within the range so why fault the fighter who wanted to test the water in the welterweight divison? we can say it will be a catchweight if 135 lbs fighter wanted to fight 147 lbs fighter in a 140 lbs division, that i think is really a catchweight because neither is a flyweight nor a welterweight division, isn’t it?
Manny is probably one of few boxers to take on all comers, in no way the easy road but, forcing cotto to defend a 147 pound title at 145 stinks-like it or not that is boxing politics at its best. Cotto clearly in da right but pacman still gets his way. WBO ranking him no.1 for doing nothing proves the intention: we want big name, big money Pacquiao as our champ rather than cotto.
I think only Lame este Liam Santiago can defeat Pacquiao in posturing match. I like what he says “Pacquiao build a legacy out of nothing”. Kind of magic to me.
no matter how hard you try still nothing…you cant please everybody.thats the moral lesson
Hey HenryL! He won’t get all the hits he is generating if he writes anything other that Pacquiao.
I AM A BIG FAN OF LIAM SANTIAGO.. GO LIAM GO.. DONT STOP TELLING DECEIVING STORIES.. AND GO TO HELL!! ASHOLE!!
AT what weight are Floyd and JMM fighting? Is it also at a catchweight? How come this comedian is not talking about that.
You just cant take without sleepless nights the possibility that the first boxer that might win 7 titles in as many divisions will not be a Mexican nor a Puerto Rican not even an African American but a lowly Filipino guy whom 6 years ago no one could have imagined he would be fighting in Las Vegas as the main attraction not even in a long shot.
If you fairly and objectively consider what pacquiao has done and gone through all his career just to arrive at this chance to go down among the greats in boxing history you’d a fool to say it was a an easy way to the top.
May you see the light if there is still room for enlightened in that dark brain of yours!
I agree with some of your article.am a PBF fan but i think Pac is really good but I too,do not agree with all this catchweight and belt on the line for the Cotto fight but i would not go as far as saying that it is Pacs fault for Hatton being unprepared and Hatton always has excuses when he loses anyway. The Hatton win for Pac was over rated in my opinion though because yes he knocked him down eight rounds before Mayweather but Hatton knocked down Castillo 20 rounds before MAyweather who could not knock down Castillo but we all saw what happen when it came to Hatton v PBF so no logic in thinking Pac can ever beat PBF because of his win over Hatton. In the case of Pac vs Oscar,i think we all know that,it was a fantastic performance but no way was Oscar the same as the one that fought PBF..to even think that is insane and let me tell you why.Oscar, after PBF fought a 135 or 140 pounder in Steve Forbes who came up to 147 to fight Oscar and made Oscars face look like pizza(in the words of the Klitskos…lol)..so if Forbes can do that then Pac was always going to do that(beat) to Oscar.I wont lie and say i saw this victory coming for Pac but it was evident from round 1 that Oscar was weight drained and simply not the Oscar of even 2/3 years ago.I hope i didnt come off as a Pac hater as i do love to watch him and he is a blessed talent and maybe for now should be P4P number 1 because PBF has not fought in 2 years, but make no mistake about it i think Pac gets his ass handed to him by PBF.PBF ko’s or more likely tko’s Pac in 8 or 9, i think. If you want to have a bet on this when the fight comes along or discuss any of my points further then my email is Jaydenhk@googlemail.com.
oh yeah, and Cotto aint a bad fighter either!
Barrera, Morales, Marquez, De La Hoya, Hatton. Taunt him all you want, but Manny Pacquiao aint taken the easy way to the top!
do you really think youre an expert or what??? answer the question im dying to find out
You say that non boxing fans will be fooled by his opponents, but your not taking in to account that Manny was a bloody good boxer before he fought ODH and Hatton. Not to mention who cares what non boxing fans think?! I have followed Manny for many years and truly believe he is one, if not the best boxer out there. Manny has been around for years and he has made his way to the top by being an amazing boxer! You don’t have a clue!!!!!
This is getting stupid. Read “DLH was shot” and just scrolled down, not that I disagree but Its being said 2-3 times a day now. The same article every day without fail.
How about the article on boxing talent throughout the World?
I have to agree, there is a lot of Pacman bashing.. As someone else said Dela Hoya wanted Pacman.
Hatton said he was fine. It’s not Pacmans fault they were either underprepared or to weight drained..
Cotto is one tough cookie and will give Pacman a great fight..
The best man wins.. Not sure who that will be though..
M
2 all fans of pacman 4get d others say about pacman bcoz they dnt knw wat they say…4 give as lord…PACMAN NOW IS NO#1.P4P KING…daTZ why they cannot acpt..
How can u argue three knockdown in a round. bfore pacman beat barrera he was the best mexican fighter, after he lose he’s a has been. Then came morales. bfore he dismantle morales he was the best mexican boxer, after pacman retired him hes a wash upo too. Then delahoya was a legend bfore the figth and panman has no chance. after he beat him up u guys found a reason he is dehydrated by 3 pounds. then the no 1 boxer at 140 pounds was almost killed and u find him unprepared. Dont u think a boxer always loses for reasons and also they lose bcoz they r figthing a better boxer?. Not to mention a title ligthweigth holder he made a puinching bag. Get over it he is a good boxer. If hes not a good boxer they all wont pick him to beat cottos ass.
tanuankid- actually pac was regarded as the #1 pound for pound BEFORE his last three fights with diaz, dela hoya, and hatton…by beating hall of fame fighters barrera, morales, and marquez in their prime. You’re right…you’re not a knowledgeable fan at all.
manuel next time bet for pac man
i am a filipino, and i am getting annoyed with manny. with all of the weight issues and wanting the belt on the line even though its not at welterweight, along with the 1 million dollars fine for cotto for each pound hes over. its getting stupid now. why cant it be at welterweight? no problems then. if 1-2 pouns dont make a difference why not let cotto come in at 147? its ridiculous
On fight night Cotto will weigh in at 156 and Pacquiao 147. I think the WBO should sanction the fight as a Welter Weight and Jr Middle Weight title fight. That would be a 2 for 1 for Pacman. 8 title belts not 7!
PACQUIAO HATER!!!!
“Why is he building a legacy out of nothing? Yes, the non-boxing fans will be fooled by his opponents disadvantages but experts such as myself certainly are not.”
For the record, not all non-boxing fans are fooled by the Pacquiao hype. I don’t consider myself a knowledgeable fan at all, but it doesn’t take an expert to see through the b.s. Which brings the question: Are all these Pactards really that s#up1d they cannot see the truth? Pac earned his rep based on his last three fights! I liked him better when he was fighting the likes of Ledwaba, Lucero, Julio, etc. Then he was groomed by Arum as the boxing poster boy. Everything was cr@p sale from then on. But, hey, all the Pactards are buying the s#!t, so why not?
No way has manny done it the easy way,i thought he lost both marquez fights but not his fault he got the decision,he looked good against morales and barerra and destroyed hatton,i don’t read much into the oscar fight for obvious reasons. However i don’t like how he is going on about his business,i think if Cotto wins it will be good news for everyone, manny camp apart
Keep em comin Liam, great articles, makes a change that it isnt Brits gettin bashed on this site. The phrase ‘dont like the taste of your own medicine’ springs to mind when I read these commments…
For the record I believe Cotto should put his belt on the line. Despite the fact that Manny is engineering this fight to his advantage, Cotto is still being given a great opportunity by Manny to make a sh*t load of cash, raise his profile and fight the so called best boxer in the world. Many would argue that Cotto does not even deserve this bout, the least he could do is put his belt on the line in return.
i dont like manny much, but you are obsessed with him…
he did beat my faveriout boxer hatton fairly and it was hardly his fault that he came prepared and hatton didnt, and you try and get a dehidrated de la hoya to retire on his stool… you cant so stop the mindless hating. i dont like pacquaio but you dont see me subbmitted articles everyday saying how bad and lucky he is.
quality and talented boxers from u.s., britain, puerto rico and one more…but pacquiao is the best right now! and he’s from the philippines!
Liam Santiago – you don’t know what you’re talking about. You are stupid and don’t know what is actually going on. Do not write an article when you do not have enough proof.
Liam is an expert pole smoker & a professional duchebag. suck it easy. oh and tell your girlfrined Manny Perez us ignorant boxing fans said hi.
if you hit just a slide punch only from pacman manny , you’ll be seeing what HELL is.
What a load of nonsense…
Anything but Pacquiao is good, is that it?
Cotto will win in one round against pacman because it’s obvious cotto is stronger and too big for pacquiao, it’s a miss match actually. forget all article of Liam it’s all nonsense he was paid by pacquiao team to help the match more interesting to invite more P4P viewer.
Unless I’m mistaken, Manny Pacquiao has fought Hatton, Diaz, Marquez, Morales, Barrera etc etc at their ideal weight, correct? Until De La Hoya, he has never expected an opponent to cut some weight, and that only happened because Oscar wanted the fight. As for Cotto, he will be 2 pounds lighter then the welterweight limit, 1 pound off his last weigh in. Come on, he’s not fighting with one hand behind his back! Lay off the Pacman and give the man respect for fighting tough opposition
Am with you Liam,Cotto began his training at 3 months of fighting, something that never before had done, I think something big will happen. I was yesterday on the gym in Aguas Buenas and he looks great. click my name and you will see.
@RMC
I totally agree! The only way for Pac to win is to knock Cotto out. And even if he knocks Cotto out, we all know why it wouldn’t be legitimate. That 2 lbs will make or break this match! Not skills, not power, but the 2 lbs!
Besides, Cotto already lost this fight before it has even begun, because Pac and his groupies already FIXED this fight.
So to Miguel Cotto, it is much better if you default the fight.
Change the record,Liam!!
Darchinyan would dismantle Pacquiao with one hand tied between his legs! Like what he did to Donaire!
Sheesh.
i defo agree liam!
Okey. Pac didn’t get credit of fighting bigger guys then let him fight Darchinyan and we’ll see what Liam will write.
Cotto has been forced to shed 2 pounds?? The welterweight title 141-147 surely Pac can come in at 141 and Miguel at 147 and they are in the same weight division??
Just a thought….
Is there a single point in this “”article”" that you haven’t already made 5 times? Do you just sit in a basement all day throwing darts at a picture of Manny Pacquiao? How about some new material?
I couldn’t agree more. Pacquiao really doesn’t have madskillz, speed and power, he is just EXTREMELY LUCKY.
Without Pac’s lucky punches, he wouldn’t stand a chance against any marquee boxers. Nope. Not at all.
Pacquaio should be Pound-for-Pound Master of Luck!
another insightful write-up…ur really something special Liam…ever tried joining the special olympics?…lol
Hey I just got that swipe about Philippines Boxing! Oh you’re a baaad man Santiago! Keep us laughing clown!
Another gem from Liam “So Lame” Santiago. Here’s another hit for you! But all I hear about is, “Pacman, Pacman, Pacman…”
Why can’t we get some other news? What’s happening with Marquez/ Mayweather? Is that fight still on? Did it get cancelled?
T-Funk, I’m trying to interpret Liam’s point of view. Pac should have a 10-7 round, instead he was given a 10-8 where he clearly beat up JMM in that round, so I take it the judge must have ruled those as slips. On the DLH fight, it wouldn’t have mattered if he was fighting at 154 or 160, the result would have been the same.
Guys – I think HenryL was actually being sarcastic…LOL,
T-Funk, hmm…let me guess…Liam SANTIAGO and Manuela Perez…i’m going out on a limb here and guess that these guys are from the origin that Pac does most of his Mexecutioning..LOL.
how many mexican with the name liam? thats as odd as harry santiago, liam your name is very common in the uk. so stop playing yourself as mexican to flame pacfans. man you are like a train wreck disaster. george is more original.
HenryL, go home and die.
A blind man wouldn’t have had DLH ahead on the cards; I couldn’t give the Golden Icon one round, let alone put him ahead. It was target practice.
JMM didn’t slip; he got his faced punched in and fell down. Watch a fight sometime.
And David Diaz. WOW…that fight was a slaughter; in my opinion, the doctor should have stopped the fight much earlier. Diaz’s face looked like a bloody piece of playdough.
I hope to God you’re being facetious…
Nepster, tell me where these guys come from…
Although i’m a Hatton fan he clearly wasn’t winning the fight now was he HenryL??
10-8 first round probably had Manny quaking or the rest of the fight….
This is an opinion fuelled by emotion rather than an objective look at things coming from a ‘cold place’by experts. The articles lately have seemed to get a bit carried away with speculation of what ifs and a lack of genuine news.
I agree. Pacman didn’t beat anyone. Liam is right he lost 2 times to JMM because the knockdowns in the first fight were actually slips and were counted as such. In Diaz’s fight Pacman threw a lucky punch, if not for that one punch Diaz would have knocked Pac out. DLH shouldn’t have quit that fight because he was winning in my card, cuz Pac got tired chopping DLH’s head. I’m sure Pac would quit of exhaustion if DLH didn’t. In Hatton’s fight I agree with Liam, Hatton was winning til the lucky punch was delivered. Hatton would have turned that fight around if not for that lucky punch.
T-Funk- it’s no use arguing with Liam or Manuela Perez, as they’re probably the same guy. They write articles just to get actual boxing fans riled up. It’s quite funny actually. I know, I know, I’m guilty or arguing with them as well. I lose. They win…oh well.
LIAM is getting to the point of being crazy. If you enjoy antagonizing people then be it. I see you chuckling with a devilish smile. Good luck. May you eat your own words all over again.
damn ur crazy bro!
This is funny stuff Liam…I’m starting to like you as reading your articles make my work days go by much quicker because I chuckle so much. I know you’re writing most of the stuff you write to get a reaction but for the sake of argument answer this…this is what you wrote..Hatton was under prepared and past his peak and was vulnerable to big shots…why would Hatton, THEN win in a rematch as you claim he would if he is past his peak and vulnerable to big shots? Also, he wasn’t unprepared, he just fought Pac the same way he’s beaten, what 46 other guys? If he fights Pac again, he would still be past his peak and vulnerable to big shots, no? Keep the articles coming!
I dont see how Miguel Cotto is the easy way to the top though Liam?
Surely if Miguel were to fight Floyd Mayweather we would be giving Cotto half a chance?
I think we are being a little disrespectfull to Cotto here he is a hell of a warrior and i don’t think Manny will even get by him.
Cotto v Mayweather early 2010
Maybe Manny Perez changed his name to Liam Santiago…
1) You couldn’t write a “well documented article” about yourself, let alone someone else. Especially a boxer, so why not let the experts handle this analysis.
2) Pacquio/Roach may have known it, but they didn’t choose to fight De La Hoya; the Golden Boy chose a significantly smaller man, a total underdog, and forced the little man to climb two weight classes to compete. No matter how many times you say it, it’s still old…
3) Marquez is a true warrior and showed grit against Pacquiao; however, the first fight should have gone to Pacquiao, as one judge openly admitted he accidently scored the first round 10-7 when in it really should have been 10-6 with the 3 knockdowns…but I know math is tough for expert journalists.
4) I don’t understand why it is Pacquiao’s fault that Hatton was underprepared. The Hitman openly stated he had an excellent 3 month training camp; how is it Pacquiao’s fault if the burden of proof fell on Hatton to show he really could change and become a P4P elite?
5) The real daylight robbery is that somehow, you are allowed to spew this useless jargon despite all the gramatical errors, pointless points stressed, and tired and over-used subject criteria. Does anyone agree with this guy?!
manillathrilla.blogspot.com
Santiago, you’re stealing all the thunder from Manuel Perez hahahahahha! lol hahaha!
your getting as bad as gilford, stop writting five articles!
Awesome…thanks Liam! Your articles are so insightful…I completely didnt’ expect this coming from you…LOL.
