News – Hatton: “I Was Winning the 2nd Round Against Pacquiao By a Mile”
By Liam “The Boxing Expert” Santiago: In a recent interview with Sky sports news, the Manchester warrior Ricky Hatton claimed that he was winning the second round against Pacquiao “by a mile.” I absolutely agree with the big punching pressure fighter and only for that one lucky blow that Pacquiao landed, who knows what would have happened? Hatton said, “I was winning the second round by a mile until that punch landed, which is amazing given I suffered two knockdowns in the previous round. That hook would have knocked out a horse.”
Ricky also went onto comment on his boxing future. He claims if the Pacquiao or Mayweather rematch was ever offered, they are the kind of bouts he would take. “I’m not going to come back and fight eight rounders, I want the big fights. At the moment I am going to have a complete rest. I have crammed 48 fights into 13 years and they have been wars. I have been beat by the two best pound for pound fighters in the world. My hero Roberto Duran was knocked out in the third round. We have never seen a more shocking knock out and he went on to become a world champion again. Maybe I can do that.”
On behalf of boxingnews24, I would like to wish Hatton all the best for the future.

Hatton – winning by a mile in the 2nd round before the “bomb” is the most fun i had in a long while..he..he..that is “scarily” good indeed..
Seriously, Liam, its time for you to STFU!!! big time. lol. your a donkey expert! thats what. i wonder how u got a place in this website to write this kind of rubbish!! lol. seriously. if u have any tips, please share with the rest of the world but not ur views on boxing! LOL
Why ride on Manny’s popularity? So you can attract the readers’s attention. Its a pity for some self proclaimed great writers like you to gain attention at the expense of WIDELY ACCEPTED GREAT BOXERS AS MANNY PACQUIAO. GO HOME AND PLANT POTATO.
hahahaha,he lose it by a mile.
Lie-I-Am, for sure you’ve got my vote. Yup! Since you are running unapposed as an expert on boxing stupidity, you certainly deserve my vote.
Heck, I would like to give you two votes but I dare not spoil my ballot. I want you confirmed as the president of this Stupid Club, of which you are the sole member!
Wow whoever wrote this article is a f#cktard.
Your having a laugh!!!! Head must’ve been buzzing from the punch Pac gave him.
For all these Hatton Haters he sure does get more comments on his articles than anyone else!! Look he has lost to two of the best fighters in the world in their prime ther is no shame in that. Uk/USA should be proud of hattons achievments and stop having a go, he has brought excitment and made boxing interested to those who werent watching before hand. GIVE HATTON A BREAK!!!!
only if u get up. you should have KO’d Pacquiao on the third round. hahahaha….stupid brit..u need another MRI to scan ur coconut shell. hahahaha. we all know your winning by a mile by hitting at the back of the head. hey Ricky, how about marrying your assistant trainer, now that he had a sex change.la la la-la….
Hatton is beginning to sound like Roy Jones Jr… a boxer in serious denial.
Dave “I think he should get that chance and go into the fight with no excuses and if he looses, he looses but at least with no excuses. Ricky isnt a shot fighter. ” – Isn’t this the point of fighting in the first place? He lost, so he lost…both times to better fighters…He went on record to say that he would love to fight Pacquiao and Mayweather again if he fights again, but to most fight fans…what would be the point? He was outclassed, overmatched and humiliated by both guys. He’s used to making 8 figures and he’s not going back to making $2-3 mil any more, that’s another big reason he would fight Pac and Mayweather…Pac is doubtful, Mayweather may do it for another big easy payday.
I had it scored 30-27 in favor of Hatton!
-Manuel Perezly
Liam is a genius it was a lucky punch that did it. Pacquiao had 75 lucky punches versus 18 for Hatton.
I was, if I, but I, I would’ve…all the begining words of an excuse. Hatton is good, but damn, I didn’t know he was crazy too.
I thought he was a real gentleman ready to accept defeat, mistakes and their consequences. I was wrong, no trash talker would ever admit and whatever he’s doing isn’t good on him… After the fight he said he never recovered from the first round knockdowns, now he’s saying he’s a mile away during the second round. He’s just trying to save face, but not courageous enough to accept defeat. He really needs plenty of money before he retires and this is what it’s all about…. (sigh)
shame on you!!! U r a self-proclaimed “boxing expert” who doesnt know boxing and doesnt how to analyze that sweet science…
u make me laugh: Liam “the boxing expert” Santiago.
u have low self-esteem dude…hehehehe////
Uum, Liam did you even watch the fight? Do you like boxing at all? That was no lucky punch, Pacquiao egged Hatton on, who was so desperate, he lost all his “new” style and went back to his old, dirty-tactic slugging style. It was the best knockout punch of the year.
Poor Hatton, his head was hit so hard his memory of the fight got mixed up with his other fights. He should be man enough and admit he lost to the better fighter.
The only thing i will say about Hatton is this.
If he got the chance i know that he would take a rematch with both Pacman and Mayweather cus thats the kind of guy he is.
I think he should get that chance and go into the fight with no excuses and if he looses, he looses but at least with no excuses. Ricky isnt a shot fighter. He just lost to the best figters in the business.
Good luck Ricky
u really wanted some hits with your write dude
i’m one hundred percent agree with liam. he he he he…
oh boy hatton is dreaming.
Liam this is a good article you should write more interesting topics like this. I also had ODLH way ahead when he decided to quit the fight. He shouldn’t have quit the fight because Pacman was getting tired of pummeling Oscar in the head.
Pacman really got suckered in Hatton’s strategy because if the fight lasted a few more rounds, Pacman would have had swollen knuckles pounding on Hatton’s skull and would have been unable to throw anymore punches. Hatton was really good in blocking Pacman’s punches with his jaw, too bad he got knocked out cold, he was ahead on points in my card.
If there’s any question about who’s the bigger draw, how many articles have been written about Mayweather, and his fight is what…a month and a half away? How many articles have been written by Pac? And his fight hasn’t even been signed.
Lie-I-Am – good one Wayne Lord…I’m still laughing about that one.
have some understanding for the guy. obviously he’s not all there after taking a brutal pounding from pacquiao. he’s lost his mind, just smile and nod for the poor guy.
Ben you cannot be serios Watch out khan, watch out bradley, watch out alexander. Any technical boxer like bradley or knan hattan will not have a chance. Hatton is a fighter not a boxer
I understand that the websites need hits. But when does a writer consider taking pride in his work and being real? Sure Liam Santiago is getting the hits the site needs, but honestly, does this man not care about his credibility?
Also, Ricky has not seen the fight, he said it himself. He got dropped and visibly hurt in the first round. He landed one punch with meaning in the 2nd round. Liam’s credibility is busted up by the fact that he agrees with Ricky, who hasn’t even watched the fight yet.
To be fair i thought hatton was doing well in the fight as a whole. If he took those 3 punches that knocked him down (like he would have 4 years ago, or now if he didnt peak so soon), then i think the first round would have been 10-10 and the second round 10-9 to hatton.
But end of the day he did get knocked down 3 times, and that final punch would have knocked out anybody in the division. It was perfectly timed using hattons own force combined with pacmans force to knock him out.
It is now clear hattons mind was not right going into the fight. Only he and his camp can be blamed for that.
I hope to see him fight again, it would be good to get a rematch with one of the people who beat him. But hes going to have to beat another tough fighter first before anyone will take him serious again.
Its looking like hes got his eyes on a world title.
Watch out khan, watch out bradley, watch out alexander
Its a shame witter didnt win the other night, hatton might have been lured into giving us a british super fight!
JC, no one is criticizing Lie-I-am for reporting what Hatton said. I listened to the interview and he actually said thoe words. We are laughing or taking issue with Lie-I am for saying he agrees!
By Liam “The Boxing Expert” Santiago: …. expert indeed …
hatton was a mile however he was not able to watch his steps … a banana on the road had cause him such a sleep… i mean KO…
cheers!
I liked ricky hatton agressive stile and enjoyed his fights, but for him to even think that he was even close in that second round is really a shame. he should ask his people (family) what they think about that 2nd round.
oh, oh, I smell early onset of dimentia here . Brother watch the tape bro , your not winning by a mile, but your ass got whupped by a mile, as your coach said will see an ass whuppin heeerreeaaa!
liam my sh1te writer this is complete b/s excuse the bad langauge and i will try a forgive this b0ll0cks you call writing 2nd round hatton winning lofl i didnt even read the full caption ffs are you on medication? i rekon your hattons drinking buddy and if your boxing is as bad as your writing then maybe your should think about wraping up and packing away your key board this i cant take this sh1t seriously
wasnt exactly a ‘lucky blow’, stupid man
Regarding Hatton’s statement that he was winning the 2nd round “by a mile,” Santiago wrote: I absolutely agree with the big punching pressure fighter and only for that one lucky blow that Pacquiao landed, who knows what would have happened?
Two things occur to me. One, Santiago is completely and irretrievably biased towards Hatton (or against Pacquiao) that he has lost all touch with reality; and/or two, he’s writing this garbage merely to be inflammatory, thereby stoking these responses. Either way, I feel both amused and sorry for him. Your boy Hatton lost, convincingly. Get over it.
Ricky should just retire because he has become a warm-up fighter, the guy you fight before the big mega fight.
Most of you who have commented to take a swipe at Liam, but actually this article has only what Hatton said in his interview.
Some of Liam’s articles are questionable but you are all wrong about his comments as he didn’t have any!
Sorry still laughing at ‘The boxing expert’ jibe!
Liam, I think when Hatton got hit it affected 2 brains. His and yours! At least he has an excuse, he sayes he has not watched the fight but I am sure you have.
To say except for that lucky punch who knows what might have happened. I would like to add: except the many punches that Hatton took that makde it a onesided fight, we might actually have had a fight.
No, I do not like the way that sounds, so let me correct it. If it wasn not for Hatton’s chin and face unfortunately getting in the way of Manny’s lucky combination punches, followed by one final lucky punch, Hatton would have won.
As a follow up to your earlier article in which you as the judge, jury and God stripped Manny of his P4P title, this article explains it. Now we know why and we agree.
Yes we agree that if we remove the “L” from your name, then you become Iam (as in I am an idiot and I am blind)! But wait, you no longer have any losses on your spectacular boxing record because with no “L” you now have osses.
Iam on the floor laughing at you, Iam. According to your vision and recollection Hatton was ahead by a mile so strecthing that further you have an unbeaten record but have many osses!
Iam, you told us your dismal record as a boxer we never saw you box. But Iam saying this with all sincerity, but as a writer, you make a very great boxer. You seem to miss those hits to the head so much that your goal is to take as many as you can on the internet by writing fiction!
i hate you liam santiago, i hate your reaction grabbing headlines, i hate the slightly witty way you turned everyones insults on them by putting “boxing expert” in your name, i hate you so much i’m gonna write a comment which due to my poor education will be barely readable, i am then going to go to my room curl up into a ball and cry my little heart out and after that will probably self harm.
i hate you liam santiago, go to hell!
oh yeah good article
This is the boxer that we called the real OVERRATED!
I saw the video that geoff rogers provided above. You have to be a moron, to agree with ricky hatton. Liam, raise your hand.
No way!!! This can’t be real!! Are you kidding me? Who are you?
Hit machine..Kaching Kaching. Because you make me laugh Liam!
I’m with u on this one Liam,
I had Ricky up 30-27 after 3 rnds.
Sincerely,
Manuel Perezze
ps. We still on for the Blue Oyster later?
Liam, stop sh#ting on me. This is FINAL. I DON’T WANT A REMATCH WITH PACQUIAO!
Well, sometimes stats do tell the story so let’s take a look shall we?
Compubox saw Pacquiao land 73 of 127 punches. 65 were power shots that landed.
Hatton landed only 18 of 78. 16 of Hatton’s punches were deemed power punches.
73 vs. 18 TOTAL
So how many punches out of 18 total did Hatton land in second round that made him win by a mile?
Paqcuaio landed 34 of 53 power shots in the 2nd round alone.
Hard to say you won by a mile if you still refuse to watch the fight 3 months later.
that ko must have affected his eyes the whole fight i think he only landed one small right hand everything else hit thin air or arms and he is no duran he will get hurt
1st comment looolz
cmon ricky u wear never a great fighter u were a fighter like gatti not great but fun to watch! one more ko like that and u will never be the same!
Without Warning – that’s great…the Onion! Especially since biased writers are taking over.
First round recap: Take away the 2 knockdowns and the 40 power pounding to Hatton’s skull, I had Hatton winning 10-8.
Second round recap. Take away the knockout that kept him asleep cold for good 3 minutes and the 35 power pounding on his skull, I had Hatton winning 10-8.
Final analysis: The first right hook that really did a major damage to Hatton’s brain. I don’t think he has any recollection of what happened in that fight. Please Liam, give him a copy of the fight film, PLEASE.
If you were at all a boxing expert, you would know that was no lucky punch.
And even if Hatton was having a better round than the horrible first round, there was no way anyone could say he was winning.
Yeah, he landed a few more shots in the second round, but Pacquiao was leading the fight. His ring generalship, precision accuracy, and 4-5 hit combos had Pacquiao ahead without a doubt. When Hatton ate that deadly right hook, his arms were down, completely fooled by a basic feignt.
Say what you want about his corner, Hatton told everyone how Floyd Sr. was re-inventing him. Stop defending the man–he was beat up by the man he said picked apart a faded Oscar De La Hoya. DLH put up a better and longer fight than the Hitman.
This is the video he “based” his article on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vujLOOiuvA
Ukansodoff he did say that go on skyskports go on boxing videos and see the last Hatton article, Hatton said i quote “i believe i was winning the second round by a mile”.
But… he… but Ricky got his face… but we all saw…
*sigh*
why oh why do I even bother? Now I just wasted 60 seconds of my life that I can’t take back…
WAIT! “by: Liam “The Boxing Expert” Santiago”
Hold on!!! ROFL… this is a freakin’ parody news site! Like Onion News!!! hahahaha… funny! I thought for a second there this is a legit boxing news site… rofl…
Good one. Awesome. Thanks for the laughs! LoL!
Liam, i dont wana call you a liar and im really sorry if this is real but i just dont believe or trust your articles.
Ive been on sky sports and ive looked for Hattons most recent interviews and i dont see one with him saying those things.
Sounds like a Hatton spokesperson writing this article to me. I can accept that pre-fight disruptions will have ruined Ricky’s chances of being 100% for this fight, but to suggest that he was winning the 2nd round until he got decked is pure delusion. He as admitted himself that he hasn’t seen the fight since it happened so happen he would change his mind if he watched it on tape.
wow…having a hard time paying the rent eh?…ok ill give you a hit…ka-cheeng….ok two hits…ka-cheeng….
