Jeff Lacy: Should He Retire?

lacy53575540By Steven Wain: Everyone saw last week when Lacy was destroyed by ring legend Roy Jones JR proving once again that Lacy can’t mix it with the big boys. The fight was so one sided, for 10 rounds Lacy just had his ass handed to him and got taught a boxing lesson from a boxing master, the fight was painful to watch and I was relieved when his corner pulled him out.

Something that the fight with Roy and, his fight against a unknown Griffin, in which Lacy struggled to win, proved to me was that Lacy has little or nothing left and therefore he should hang up his gloves and retire before he gets another beating, however, If for some reason Lacy feels the need to continue boxing then I believe he will never hit the big time again and the fight against Jones was his last chance.

Lacy is similar to Hatton in a way that when he gets the chance at the “big time” he fails. (Although with respect to Hatton he did fail against the best p4p boxers in the world)

Lacy had chances against;

Joe Calzaghe – Lacy lost by unanimous decision

Jermain Taylor – Lacy lost by unanimous decision

Roy Jones JR – Lacy lost by RTD in the 10th

But all 3 times he come up short which is the picture of Lacy career, to good for the small guys, not good enough for the big guys.

One of my biggest fears is if Jeff does decide to continue boxing then he might just get beat by some unknown boxer and destroy his career even further, but that just my opinion, its up to Lacy he makes that choice, all I can suggest is that he retires before he gets badly hurt, and just accepts his career was a “failed success.”

    agree with alan bosworth, Calzaghe and a bad shoulder injury that followed were reasons 4 his decline, lets be fair he WAS the next big thing to come out of the States, powerful and full of stamina problem is that Joe Calzaghe is TOO GOOD, but only real boxing fans can except it

    NO FUTURE AND YES

    dont be stupid comparing hatton to this bum, hatton has beat loads of top fighters and dominated the light welter division and will go down as a legend. this guy will be forgetten in a couple of years, in the last few years any wins he has got he hasnt even looked gd, eg manfredo

  • Oli says:

    absolutly no future

  • Anthony says:

    lacy shouldnt go after any big named fighters and stick to facing journeymen if he does continue. He shouldnt just retire as he may need the money so it is safer for him to take on lower ranked unknown fighters to bring in the money
