Mayweather Proposes Marquez Step Aside for Pacquiao Clash

By Giancarlo Malinconico: I previously wrote an article, Now is the Time for Pacquiao to fight Mayweather, where I suggested Pacquiao should fight Mayweather next. I also stated Marquez should be compensated to step aside. According to boxing columnist Mark Vester, Mayweather alluded to this idea to the Grand Rapids Press: “If Manny wants it, I’ll pay Juan to step aside…. If Manny Pacquiao really wanted to fight with me, all he’s got to do is say it…. We could pay Marquez some step-aside money.”
The biggest hurdle in making this happen is Bob Arum. Arum’s greed seems to get in the way of creating great boxing matches. Arum is notorious for putting out pay-per-view events with horrible undercards and matching his own fighters against each other rather than placing them in risky battles with fighters who are not under his banner. I hope that this fight can be worked out, and boxing fans can watch one of the most anticipated matches in boxing history take place this year.

I agree. Mayweather is the greatest of this generation. All the hatred spewed at him is just pure jealousy.
I think Pacman is a great offensive boxer. But Mayweather is simply on a different level.
Its almost like the Jack Johnson era when Jack was being hated by vast sections of the public and he just kept humiliating the fighters and the hateful fans also.
Pacman has a punchers chance against Mayweather. But if Floyd keeps his defense airtight he will win easily.
The way Marquez was schooled by Mayweather was scary. Scary because Marquez is another legend. A legend who was very unlucky against Pacman.
marquez has out boxed pac many times and many rounds enough to give him the victory in both fights.

Whats amazing is everyone here disparaging the greatest fighter of our generation (Floyd Mayweather Jr.), and saying he should cancel a fight with Marquez for Pacquiao.
Doesn’t anybody remember that Marquez was robbed of two fights against Pacquiao? Doesn’t anybody remember that only 14 months ago Marquez knocked Pacquiao on his ass and was robbed of a decision? Who can really say Pacquiao is the clear cut P4P champ? Especially not with Mayweather in the mix, unbeaten and unchallenged.
I also take it from everyone’s prehistoric English that you are all Brits. I’ll credit your hate for Mayweather to him trashing talking Hatton and backing it up by toying with him for 9 rounds before dropping the hammer. Anyway if you people across the pond knew anything, you would know that Mayweather signed a 5 fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Marquez is the first of 5 fights. Mayweather will take on, and destroy all comers in the next 3-4 years. Marquez first, then in some order: Cotto, Mosley, Williams, and yes, Manny Pacquiao.
So don’t worry about all this: “Floyd is scared of Manny!” chatter. Manny will get his when his time comes. Until then, enjoy the return of the greatest champion of our generation.
Floyd is a big mouth braggart. First he picked a fight against a fighter he thought was smaller because he thought it would be an easy payday. He thought people would be so anxious to see him that they would pay anything for the fight, just to see him.
Well, he faked an injury to get some publicity but people just yawned. Now he is claiming he’ll pay Marquez to step aside so he can fight Manny. People, can’t you see this is a ploy to sell that fight? He expects Marquez’ fans & most fans to get upset & start showing interest, Is it working?
Of course it is! The 2nd part of the plan is to make people believe he should get 50% because he knows he will never get that. If Manny refuses he will say Manny is scared. If Manny agrees, then Floyd weasels out of a fight in which he surely would have had his body well tested and he does not like the bodywork. Remember the 1st Castillo fight? He won with an injured hand (or so he says) but it was very tough.
The whole boxing fraternity knows that Manny is the current cash cow. Floyd keeps referring to his two huge fights but Oscar and Hattong brought the fans, not he. Someone please tell him so he will stop making a fool of himself. We know he’ll retire again to protect his ’0′ without fighting anyone who has a chance to beat him.
Although I feel a fight with Manny would be the biggest today, I want to see him fight a real 147 lb-er. He retired to avoid Margarito & Cotto. If he were to beat Manny, do you think he will risk facing a real welter? He will retire to a lot of fanfare, which in my mind would be tainted.
Regarding Marquez, he is a honest pro and a very good fighter, but come on who gets excited seeing him fight? Him and Floyd is less exciting than watching paint dry. There has been more talk about Manny on his own or Manny vs Cotto, & that fight has not yet been signed. Yet self centred egotist Floyd still thinks he is the no guy out there? Puhleeezzeee! regarding the idea of pacman monegreedyweather match, this big mouth boxer is only pretending, actually he’s afraid of pacquiao. all opponents of pacquiao is not afraid to be tko’d because pacman is a great fighter they are even proud just to stay longer in a round, but to be embarrased in the ring is that what they are afraid. to be embarrased that means you will be forced to retire.
Mayweather has gotten a slap of reality and now he sees who he is about to face. He knows that he will be in trouble against Marquez. Marquez will beat him. Mayweather loses and a mega fight, mega money will all go down the drain. The man doesn’t want to risk that versus Marquez. Too late sucka!
i always like the comments of mr. art. A person who is greedy is iliterate in money. after boxing they will belike no other than tyson, that is mayweather senior & junior. they are only after PPV with the help of oscar de la hoya, and they are looking for a weak opponent so that they can get bigger slice of price share. i watch all mweather fight in reality he is no pound for pound boxer after all, he is a one box and back away boxer (hit & run). he cannot even TKO de la hoya al though this boxer have no more muscle in his legs. he only accidentally knockout hatton, his other fights are all boring.
marquez will never step aside for money,his the one who called out mayweather. he will only step aside if he is offered to fight pacquiao. marquez main goal is to beat pacquiao or else marquez can never retire in peace. heck, all mexican boxers and critics cannot have peace until the mexicutioner is dethrone.

Floyd is getting scared of Juan Ma. Remember his fight with Luis Castillo? Juan Ma is no Luis Castillo but he can be better than Luis which I think he is. If he is confident to win why renege a contract for a Pacquiao fight since if he wins, they are going to fight anyway?

for starters why is everyone cancelling owt migual cotto one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world hes never had a shot at mayweather? he deserves his shot at manny even if it is at a crappy catch weight. maquez is a good apponent for any one to face pound for pound number two its like everyone is saying that marquez is a class b fighter or somthing. i think cotto has a good chance of beating manny and would like to see a mayweather cotto clash next year.

Mayweather Jr is one of the best boxers i have ever seen in my life.
But everything else about him is really boring. he shoots his mouth too much usually about himself. Hes self love has made him very disrespectful towards people and his persuit of money has spoilt what could of been an amazing career by not facing alot of great Welterweights from the last 4 or so years.

Mayweather is afraid of the coming disaster in PPV. He will be worthless if the PPV is not a success and if he lose to Marquez. He probably realize that it’s a no win situation and he wants a way out. Even if he win against Marquez it will not raise his stock coz people wil think he beat a bloated lightweight.
This is basically Mayweather saying, my fight with JMM ain’t selling jack S**t…I need to get out now because if this fight bombs, then I have screwd negotiating with Manny Pacquiao for a fight with him.
However, this article doesn’t include the fact that Mayweather ALSO said that he won’t fight Pacquiao unless he gets MORE than a 50/50 split…which, unless your name is Manuela Perez or Batengueno, then you probably don’t agree that this is the case.

floyd jr. is foolish. anything can happen in boxing, if marquez win floyd’s stock value would totally go down. floyd will not even be worth to figth pacman, sugar, angel or anyone in top. floyd will be gatting 10% split for all he’s fight if after marquez defeat him. he will not be in a position to dictate the terms of the match and he will look bad. marquez is p4p number 2, where will floyd be once marquez beats him. not even in number 10, this gamble or so called tuneup fight is foolish and could be the end of his career or last fight. floyd should have callout manny pacman pacquiao. too bad floyd you made a risky deathtrimental choice gambling on marquez bout. you chewed morethan you can swallow.

afraid of both Marquez and Pacquiao. He knows Manny won’t accept less than 50/50, so he (mayweather) won’t budge on it. That fight will
never happen. The only one that wins with Mayweather’s greed is Manny. The fans lose, we don’t get to see Mayweather get his butt kicked, Mayweather loses the money, and Manny stays on top with the world knowing Mayweather is afraid of him. Marquez will take Mayweather out.
I think mayweather wants to back out on a done deal because he’s afraid of juan Manuel Marquez.
