It’s pure nonsense to rate the Klitchsko’s so low. Check their ko record. It’s also nonsense to rate Louis first. People say (I am not sure who those people are) that the Klitchko’s haven’t fought anybody, well who did Louis fight?

Lewis hit Vitali with a monster right hand uppercut, but did not knock him down. Lewis was good but he was knocked cold by single punches. That never has happened to Valdimir. That alone does make him better than Lewis but cetainly it means he is at least close. I believe Vitali would probably beat Lewis. Yes Dempsey and Louis fought and beat big men, but not men as skilled as these brothers. They have to be close to the hardest punchers and certainly amongst if not the best fighters of all time.

Once again, dear fellow box-fans:
We all know that sports develop, and as much that I admire and respect boxers from the past it is a fact that also boxers become better and bigger. Fact: Foreman was decked by Lyle (220 pounds) and Liston was knocked out by a 199 pound former sparring partner… Ali was decked by Sonny Banks (around 185 pounds) and 186 pound Henry Cooper when an up and coming boxer!!! Wladimir has knocked out cold big strong world rated 240 pound boxers. Dont gimme that nonsens that todays heavyweights are bad and poor, it is just nonsens from sympathy-blinded people, that can’t accept facts. And fact is Wladimir may be a candidate to best one-punch hitter ever, YES, surpassing Shavers and Foreman and Liston. And accept facts when E. Steward says Wladimir punches indredibly hard!

NIELS PROBST listen w.klitscho is a devastating puncher but to go as far as saying he is one of the best heavyweights of all time is not accurate wk has been lucky to find himself in a very weak heavy division,there is one black bigman on the up that will give him serious problems cuban (ODLANIER SOLIS) but i do agree these big lipped gangstas know nothing but neither do you.

Keitai you are a fool! Try and listen to what Emanuel Steward is telling you. Wladimir surpasses every former black heavy champ, and that is a fact. It is unbelievable how people cannot accept raw facts. Many just cannot admit, that white heavyweights at present time is better than black heavies.
Wladimir would have knocked out Ali, Foreman and Frazier. “Big” George (Who isn’t that big compared to modern boxers), would walk into Wladimirs power punches and get kayoed real fast.
Wladimir is the best one punch hitter that ever lived. Accept it, you gangstas with thick lips and a low IQ.

david haye rated 5 after a couple of dismal fights, silly, sad, ridiculous, did i mention silly. tyson had speed, but as far as thudding, true power, there is shavers, then vladimir, then foreman, then lewis. 2 fighters that fought both vladimir and lewis said vladimir hit much harder. that seems significant.

Freddie Roach: Punch for punch actually Mike is more explosive than Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko is so big and he doesn’t have the speed of Mike, but he’s got that dense power though so Mike’s asset is the speed that comes with the power. Klitschko doesn’t have that speed so if you see a punch coming and you can prepare for it, it won’t knock you out. Punch for punch I think Klitschko probably hits a little bit harder but Mike’s much more explosive.

“I think based on this performance here and his own conversations with me in the recent days that he realizes that he is actually too reluctant, too intelligent, too technical—that I think you’re going to see a much more aggressive fighter in Wladimir. If this man actually would just operate with close to 80%—he’s only operating with about 60%—he would be the most devastating heavyweight in the history of boxing because I’ve worked with him. Never, ever, ever have I been involved with a fighter who has so much one punch punching power. Even guys that knock somebody out—they get them hurt, they knock them down, they get them groggy—Wladimir is the only fighter I’ve ever worked with that everything can be normal like a big party—everybody is having champagne, on the floors, in the tuxedos, with the music—and the lights go off completely at one time. I mean it’s not like a gradual dimmer switch. I never saw anyone who knocked out people in a gym when they block punches and he did that about three weeks ago with a sparring partner—two weeks ago, prior to the fight. With a sparring partner he threw a left hook, the sparring partner blocked the punch and with twenty ounce gloves he was still knocked out. He has unbelievable one punch punching power and that’s why maybe he doesn’t put combinations together because he punches so effectively and with so much power with one punch, but his handicap and problem is he feints too much. He wants everything to be perfect—perfect balance, perfect this, and the last round he was a little overly aggressive, got out of position a few times, but to go three minutes with a guy with his power is like a lifetime because even if he just grazes you with a punch, you’re going to be hurt.”

Wladimir’s right hand is perhaps twice as powerful of anything tyson could offer, but I agree tyson’s punches are more lethal. In terms of the impact if u watch brewster 2 vs kiltschko near the end wladimir launched a BIG right hand that sent brewster back 3 metres away. NONE did tyson’s punch could shake a man like this. Imagine a 6ft 6 man with the muscle of wladimir’s loading up a shot with all his body weight behind. That’s not something tyson could achieve

Tyson was not a one punch finisher – he threw fast combinations as demonstrated with Pinklon Thomas in May 1987.
Ernie Shavers must be rated as one of the most concussive punchers in the heavyweight division.

This is a very good topic. Judging a person by a KO percentage is not the only criteria because if the fight finihes before the scheduled end it is deemed a knock out. So TKO and KO are the same.
If we are talking about one punch power, again we still have to look at speed, timing and accuracy as the key ingredients to assess that.
Some fighters can hit with one punch and it is all over. Some hit with two quick punches to get the same effect. Some hit with big wide winging punches like Foreman but others use a short 6-8 punch like Joe Louis.
Bonecrusher Smith buted bones, Shavers cracked ribs and Norton busted jaws. But it all depends on who the fighter is you are facing in order to land a shot. People like Tyosn who can punch with speed and power, had many tomato cans which due to current internet can be seen everywhere.
People like Marciano, Liston, Dempsey and Max Baer hit really hard too but people only look at fighters in today’s top ten. The Klitchkos are very decent guys but through no fault of their own, the heavy division is very weak today. Most guys are big, weak and extremely slow and also are not in good shape.
You know when a guy hits really hard when guys are scared to get hit. Liston, Shavers, Marciano, Louis, Foreman, Tyson and Max Baer. Ali, Holmes and other boxers hit hard but never incited fear of being hit like those one shot bombers.

tyson didnt hurt holyfield. you have to guage their whole career. holyfield was hurt and knocked down by others. vitali is undoubtedly the strongest fighter to ever win a title, but his style is to throw arm punches…its part of his defence, not to commit his body to the punch, but he is also strong enough to hurt his opponants that way as well. it is also easier to punch up, then down, so the shorter puncher will get more leverage, yet foreman was only really effective punching shorter fighters, as he threw from his waist. vlad changed his body structure so he is not as hard a puncher, but is a better boxer. he carries less weight up top and doesnt bend forward for leverage, exposing his chin. in short, there is no one greatest puncher, just as there is no greatest heavyweight, as I am reminded watching ali struggle on espn replays with flabby 200 pounders—all heavyweights have flaws….the p4p are always smaller, more talented…
