I keep hearing my Canadian countryman LUCIEN BUTE'S name mentioned, just for the record..
GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS RECENTLY WON A BID
for him to have a rematch with Librado Andrade.
THIS FIGHT WILL MAKE HIM 900,000 DOLLARS
I'm not sure yet when HBO AND GBP plan to schedule it however.
So people, that's why BUTE ids absent from the big Showtime--Tournament

Big up 2 showtime for putting this event on , the thought of froch-kessler or kessler-abarham is awsome, but how good would have been if they got rid of taylor and ward and had pavlik and bute ?

this is only a short-term solution, what will happen afterwards? will it go back to normal? will it be an annual event? i just can't see how it will succeed.

what we need is 1 champ, 1 governing body & reguler tornaments where the winner gets a shot at the title, less ppv events so that all fights are available to all people, which would be the best way to attract new fans.

alternatively a revolutionary unseeded regional-national-international round robbing tournaments with the winner being the world champ and having to defend it from the start of the next regional tournament. therefore forceing the best to fight the best rather than the best ticket sellers(amir khan does not deserve title shot) getting the shots.

Nice article. Though it would really be great if all title holders were involved so the man who would come out on top has all the belts and rightfully claims "undisputed division champ" and king of the division. Nice start for boxing.

this would be a brilliant idea. maybe you could get the top 8 rated boxers in each division pair them up randomly this would be the quarter finals. the winner of each bout going thru to the semis. all belts on the line so the last man standing at the end would be undisputed champion of the world. a tournament like this would create massive amounts of money and promote boxing hugely. great idea!!!

From what i have been readin on a few different websites, the fights wont all be in america. Its going to be spread out across europe and america.

Some people have been saying that is a one night tourny which isnt true, they will fight around three fights over a long period of time then the two worst fighters will drop out.

3 pts for a ko
2 for a decision
1 for a draw

Then it goes in to the semi final fights and the final.

So whoever wins will own the wbc and wba belts.

It might not even happen but will be very good if it does.

We all would like to see one international governing body but if that isn't going to happen the idea of a tournament to discover who is the top dog in each division is good.

I'd like to see a regular one-off tournament, maybe every 2 years, where the four titlist from the WBA, WBO, IBF, WBC go at it. No belts on the line – just the winner declared the undisputed world champion. The Tournament can be hosted at a neutral venue and each fighter could receive the same fee (which would surely be huge!). At the end of the tournament each fighter takes their own belt home and defends it until the next tournament rolls around.

As belts aren't on the line the fighters won't lose the prestige of being a tile holder. And if a fighter refuses to take part in a tournament the fans know they are too lily-livered.

I think one international governing body, one main world belt and less politics are needed. I personally believe that would give more of a meaning to the domestic belts for example: British, European and Commonwealth belts. At the moment the domestic belts mean very little with them being well down in the pecking order of the current boxing hierarchy. I think this would save boxing and make it easier to stage the best fights and this kind of tournament which I think is a class idea.

This should happen, the problem with boxing today, is the legal wranglings between too many pointless belts and greedy promotoers!

For example, why are we not getting a Caballero Juanma fight!?

And the welter weight division could have some cracking bouts, god dam, will we ever see the day when Mayweather takes on another top welter?, he won't go for Mosley ,Williams or Cott because again, he is holding out for a naturall smaller guy, Pacman!

I love this and if they did this to ever division there would be no more 0-3 loss guys because they would be forced to fight the best in boxing 5 losses are a big deal in UFC the best fighters have around 5 losses cause they are foreced to fight the best.

Yes, it definitely will be beneficial to the sport of boxing. There is a huge fear of losing in boxing. Every fighter is too concerned about legacy and for some reason.. they believe that their record has everything to do with it.

All this shows is that the Yanks will do anything to stop fights happening in Frchs and Kesslers countries, making them travel to fight Ward and Dirrell

The thing is why is dirrell in this when bute should be in it and you could even argue taylor out aswell for the wbo champ.

It would be a more meaningful line up with all the belts on the line.

Eventhough i would like to see froch and the other europeans batter these yanks.
