Henry Stops George in 6!
By Sam Gregory: On the ESPN2 co-main event from Philadelphia Shaun George 18-2-2 with 9 KO’s of Brooklyn, New York takes on Chris Henry 23-2 with 18 KO’s in a scheduled 10 round bout in the light heavyweight division.
Henry continued to walk into several more right hands of George and went right into a clinch. George landed his right hand regularly but didn’t follow it up with the predictable left hook.
By the third round Henry found a home for his jab, coming out of a clinch Henry landed a big right hand that staggered George. In the fourth round Henry came out throwing some wild shots, George was able to get away from a couple vicious shots by George but Henry landed his jab enough to turn the direction of the fight.
By the 5th round the output of George’s punches dropped dramatically and as commentator Teddy Atlas put it, ‘George was acting like he was paying for the punches out of his pocket.’
By round six the offensive flow of the fight changed dramatically as Henry dropped George with a solid right hand. When the fight resumed George was hurt and wasn’t able to answer Henry’s punches. Referee Steve Smoger stepped in and called a halt to the fight at 1:08 of the 6th round.
Henry was declared the winner by TKO and improved his record to 24-2 with 19 KO’s; Shawn George fell to 18-3 .
