Froch Calls Khan Boring: What Else Is New?

By Scott Gilfoid: I wonder if World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch just woke up from a 100 year sleep or something, because when he said that he thought Amir Khan looked boring after watching five rounds of his fight with Andriy Kotelnik, it really wasn’t all that enlightening. I hate to break this news to Froch, but Khan has been boring to watch for some time.
Ever since Khan’s head got parked in the 3rd round of the seats by Breidis Prescott in a 1st round blowout loss, Khan has been painfully boring to watch. The reason why is being he’s so focused on protecting his glass chin and isn’t putting in the effort to throw flashy punches or add power to his shots like he did previously.
I’ll admit right away that I never liked Khan’s weak chin, but I thought he had the best offensive skills in the lightweight division. Unfortunately, I can’t say that now. Khan has morphed into one of the most safety first, boring fighters in the light welterweight division. And it doesn’t matter to me that Khan holds the World Boxing Association title right now, because he still is tedious to watch now that he’s not letting his hands go like he used to.
I guess his new trainer Freddie Roach is partly to blame for that. Roach seems to have turned Khan into an ostrich, making him protect his head from the threat any of power shots from his opponents. Against the powder puff shots from Kotelnik, you’d think that Roach would have given Khan the green light to let his hands to go, but that doesn’t appear the case.
All I heard from Roach in the corner was ‘keep your hands up” and “keep circling the ring.” With that kind of fighting, is it any wonder why Froch sees Khan as a boring fighter. I respect Froch for speaking up, but before long there’s going to be many more people in the future chiming in with the same thoughts unless Khan starts showing some gonads by standing his ground more and letting his punches fly.
I think Roach messed Khan up with his tinkering with his offense. Khan would have easily beaten Kotelnik with his old style and may be forced a stoppage. I don’t think for a second that Khan hits as hard as slugger Marcos Maidana, but his punches are plenty fast enough that he could have caught Kotelnik with a shot that he didn’t see coming and put him down had Khan been punching with conviction instead of on the back foot.
I think what Roach is in the process of doing with Khan is turning him into another Felix Sturm type fighter, a boxer that circles the ring a lot, jabbing, keeping his guard up all times, and rarely sitting down on his punches. Like Sturm, I see Khan taking it easy as he can with his non mandatory opponents by picking the weakest of the lot, and then fighting defensively when fighting a good opponent.
Unlike Sturm, though, I see Khan vacating his title when the day comes for Maidana to be his mandatory challenger. I don’t think he’s going to be put in with the Argentinean slugger, just like he probably won’t be matched against Prescott again.

Mark Boden – Kotelnik was GIFTED a victory against Maidana. You can’t call someone a bum after being robbed of a victory by a guy who would’ve been mistaken for the elephan man after 12 rounds. Face it, your precious little manufactured champion Khan will go down. Khan would be beaten badly by the likes of Bradley, Holt, Maidana (and possibly Prescoot if he goes up). Beaten so badly in fact you can class it as a hate crime.
Some anomynous fool said Carl Froch is racist? he is a big friend of David Haye (who is not white and of Cypriot heritage) from their amatuer days and always bigs him up in articles such as ones we have read on here. Froch is far from that
Whenever I hear someone say that a particular fighter is BORING one thing always comes into my mind – THIS GUY MUST BE A GOOD BOXER.
Being able to win fights whilst not getting into scraps is a sign of a very skilled boxer.
Eg Lennox Lewis, PBF , Wladimir Klitschko and now Amir Khan

Khan looked boring to me, and yes Im English and I do like Khan.
Here’s the bottom line, Khan is very chinny and you cant put muscles on your chin!
All other areas you can improve a fighter, as Khan has improved, he has been put on the canvas by very light hitting fighters – Limmond…
I think people were a bit harsh on him about the prescott knock out, because if you watch the tape back, you will see the amount of leverage prescott gets on his shot he probably would have taken out any middleweight, let alone a light weight..
Good luck to Khan, but my advice to him would be, milk a few more names on his cv by shot fighters like morales, avoid maidana/valero at all costs and then take 1 mega fight and retire after he gets knocked out(again_) lol

Boxing is a sport people!!! . The purpose of that sport is to WIN!!!!!! If you want to watch something based on the entertainment by all means watch WWE.
The whole point of boxing is to hit and avoid being hit. It takes incredible skill as a boxer to acomplish this.
I thought Amir Khan looked sensational against Kotelnik.
Can’t believe how many come on here saying how good khan is,god one guy even says he aint got a glass jaw,the prescott punch would have dropped anyone.Mmm,he didn’t mention Limond or Gomez to name a few.He had what,23 fights and he been down 7 times upto now,thats why the kahn we see now is how its gonna be,hands up high,keep moving and throwing straight shots only so he keeps his guard tight.The route taken was a joke and how he can say he has proven people wrong is laughable.
Only thing more laughable is some of the khan gang members comments!

Khan will become an elite fighter. He doesn’t need the support of you haters. If he carries on winning he will become much loved by many. Not just in Britain, but in America, Asia, Europe, Middle East with all those big rich sheikhs. Just like i predicted him to outclass Barrera and Kotelnik, i predict his star to shine for quite some time. I’m just proud that us Brits have such a talent with such extraordinary abilities.

So good to see Scott Gilfoid still giving all his attention to the British boxers! He is deeply impressed with Khan and his excellent boxing skills but finds it hard to get over they share different nationalities.
Chin up Scott, USA will have someone a few yrs down the line!
wow! god you cant win with small mided people like the ones posting here, when khans geting floored and koed, hes got no chin and rubbish defense, when he does the opposite hes boring!lol..the art of boxing is to hit and not be hit…how can the likes of froch criticise khan, just because hed rather get punched in the head for 12 rounds than get his hands up, it doesnt mean other fighters should follow his footsteps.Khna has a glass chin, if he went toe to toe with kotelnik and got koed he would be called a loser at least this way he wins and becomes a world champ, something no one posting here can claim, in britain no one outside of boxing even knows or cares about carl croch and hes blatantly jealous, hes also known to be a racist in Nottingham.
Yeah, McIntosh is tough though and being an ex-kickboxer shown he had a good chin, i thought a points win alone would be fine but to stop him was excellent. Anthony Small is good, I find it hard to support him when up against a brit but when he’s fighting the yanks i think his talk is brill either way he is probably british boxings biggest character since Eubank and Naz.
mark f – Cleverley looked really good the other night on ITV4, started a bit to quickly and seemed to gas himself a little but recomposed himself and did the business. There are better British prospects out there other than Kahn and they don’t get the credit they deserve! Kell Brook springs to mind as well. Any British fighter that wins the Lonsdale outright and cleans up at domestic level is not only getting valuable experience, they are taking the better route to stardom! Plus wining the Lonsdale outright for a British fighter IMO is a honer!

Khan fought the perfect fight to assure himself the wba title & im sure from now on he will adapt adequately for each opponent. Regaring his chin / presscott ko there is nothing wrong with his chin there is not a single fighter in the lightweight division that would of stood up to that punch.
All you Khan bashers should hang your head in shame, he is 22 year old guy who has just won a world title – 3 fights after he got knocked out by breidis prescott. Roach has already said he will be sitting down more on his punches in his next fight, so expect more knockouts. A young british fighter doing great, and all you can do is slag him off – Pathetic!

SimonH – It’s just not true mate he’s lost all his punch leverage and cannot generate power. Because he cannot afford to drop the guard! punch out put alone is not going to help him against the top tier fighters out there! Kotelnik was made for Kahn and his performance was not that stellar!

The Kahn you saw against Kotelnik is the Kahn your always gonna get now! and it won’t be good enough against the top tier LWW’s & LW’s and us British boxing fans need to get real…he’s over hyped and not that good! His records a JOKE his route to a world tile was a JOKE….and still like the guy but he’s not that good!

Since Kahn was sparked out Roach has done his job and tightened up Kahn’s defence much to the benefit of Kahn’s chin….however in doing this, all Kahn can do is hit & run with a high guard! He’s lost all his other class attributes other than his speed as he cannot afford to drop his guard and expose the chin of death! LOL so he has lost all leverage and cannot generate the power in his punches any more and yes the Kotelnik fight was boring! so much so I even left it to make a coffee during round 4! it’s a shame I like the lad but he can no longer throw from angles or pose problems with his power…..it’s a shame….dam shame he had everything but a chin!
