I think it’s time for the fighters to try and meet the weights intended! Everyone is now picking their fighters, weights, and that’s causing kaos in the sport. Cotto has all the right to set the standards in order to remain with “his” belt, the fight must go on!!!! Pulling out would mean many things, and one may seem as “a chickening out move”. Do you realize COTTO won his WBO title at 146 against jennings in a vacant title match. Which was a gift to COTTO. Remember he just lost to Margarito,so how the hell did he get a title match after losin his title. Then he puts his title on the line against clotty at 146. This fight in my eye could have went either way. Now he takes on Pacquiao and we have a weight issue and why…1pound? Are u serious! 145 is a great fair weight because of how many pounds Cotto puts back on after the weigh-in. In other words this should be a title match.

cotto didn’t earn his title. he beat a bum of his choice to get a vacant wbo belt. that was a gift not a fight that he earned to be champ. if he doesn’t put his title on the line and lose. his title wont mean squat.

Indeed it is a great article! It is sad to read a lot of stupids comments from crazy fans but the truth is that this is an even fight for me. Manny has the speed to beat cotto and cotto has the power a weigth to beat manny. I don know how much the loaded gloves of maragrito afected cotto but he took a nasty beating. Last fight he showed a lot of heart fighting a great boxer with a open wound afecting his vission since round 3. On the other hand manny is coming from two great victories from Oscar and Hatton. One thing am sure is that Cotto is very diferent opposition from those two guys. Manny has the Better Team with Roach on his side plus the speed. Cottos Team Suck but he is a great fighting Machine.
So the Bottom Line is this Fight is an Exellent “Flip a Coin” and pray for your boxer!!!!!!!!

IMO this fight is what it is. Its a big money fight that is going to take place title or no title. Greedy Bob Arum is going to do what ever he can to make sure that this fight happens. He has both fighters under contract and will do his best to cash in on this fight. A lot of what is being said is simply a part of hyping the fight. I also think that its going to be a damn good fight.

What would Pac do even if he wins the WBO WW title?It’s not like Manny will defend the belt if he wins it.
Prob because Manny realy wants out of boxing,Manny has been talking about getting into politics for some time now.Looks like Pac just wants to look better on paper that he has won seven titles.
I bet if Cotto put the belt on the line and Manny won it he would then retire from the sport and you know what,thats prob the reason we will never see Manny/Mayweather or Marquez pt3.
There is knowhere in the rules that state that Cotto has to put up his WBO WW title at a catch weight.It has to be agreed on from both sides.
Look,you cant blame Cotto here,he won the title at 147lb limit and he feels if he were to lose it he would rather lose it at the same weight he won it.

Remember this, there are a lot of Welterweight champions out there, a lot of them are no-names. Hell, if Manny wants a 7th title, he can just pick one of the least skilled Welterweight champions and he’ll have a very easy title belt, hence, making history.
But no, he wants Cotto. Arguably, the best of the best in Welterweight. Pac even said he’ll pay the freakin’ sanction fee that Cotto doesn’t want to pay. C’mon! Now, Cotto is playing hard-to-get! Jeez Looweez!
Man up, Miguel! You want to be the greatest among the greatest? Be a man, and put your title on the line! Or are you seriously doubting that you have a chance to win?

Why are they fighting at 145 if there is no belt on the line? My first impression was Manny was compromising and giving a little more than might have been expected (143 was the weight being floated previously) for the opportunity to fight for the title. Without the title at stake, Cotto should be grateful to Pacquiao for agreeing to fight him even if the weight was at 140.

If the title is not at stake Manny should walk. With this stunt Cotto is treating Pacquiao like a chump. Mayweather, Mosley, or Marquez would make for better fights.

Welterweight is 147 lbs Maximum.. the essence is you can fight from 141 to 147.. you can fight at 145 at welterweight.. that is if you weigh in at 145.. but if your opponent weighs in at 147.. then you still fight.. that is welterweight.. if you force 145 catchweight.. then that is 145 “division”.. because you changed the weight maximum limit.. fight at 147 for the belt.. or fight at 145 but non-title..

I am so sick & tired of all the Manny fans stating how scared Cotto is of facing Manny. It is absurd to think that Cotto who has faced fighters that Floyd Mayweather JR. himself refuses to fight against is afriad of Pacquiao. Cotto has faced some of the most avoided fighters in his weight class such as Mosley, Margirito & clottey whom are huge fighters compared to Manny, so it is ridiculous for all you manny fans to say Cotto is afraid of Manny or losing his belt. If this was the case he would do what Mayweather does. COTTO IS STANDING HIS GROUND ON PRINCIPLE! IF MANNY WANTS THE BELT THEN HE HAS TO EARN IT. I have no idea what the contract stated but if it said only 145, it is still a welter title fight and the WBO has the right to enforce it. But what happens if Manny wins? Will he demand that anyone who challenges him cannot exceed 145? I think he and Roach should stop the crap and fight.

It will be a superhuman feat if he wins and no shame if he loses. At least he has always taken the very toughest fights and not calling out smaller guys like one other self made brilliant man. If he is self made, he forgot to add balls.
Manny, as one of your biggest fans, I implore you to step up and make history.
The original Sugar Ray (Robinson) stepped up to challenge for the Lheavy Title and lost. People knew he fought way under the 175 weight and was way ahead in the fight but he lost. The heat from the TV lights etc was so intense that the referee collapsed and Sugar did later too. It didn’t hurt his leagacy and neither will a loss here. You have balls and are exciting. You can’t hurt your already established legend!

Just because the writer doesn’t agreed with everyone’s point of view doesn’t mean he’s a hater or bias, “is an opinion” Everyone is forgetting that this fight is for “BOXING HISTORY” if the fight takes place in the 147lbs division and pacman wins the tittle” so to make history he needs to follow the rules and “MAKING HISTORY”within the rules! NOW he wants to rewrite his own rules and win a tittle outside the weight division, how is that possible, If he want to be the 147lb champion whether is Cotto,Mosley or whoever he needs to fight them at the Champion’s terms! A FIGHT FOR THE TITTLE WILL MAKE PACMAN THE CHALLENGER AGAINST ANY CHAMP IN THE DIVISION so he can’t be calling the shots, Cotto agreed to all the terms he placed base on the fight being in the catch weight of 145lb which makes pacquiao the rightful owner of the terms of the fight 2 lbs up gives Cotto the right of the terms!
