Cotto: “Hey Roach, I’m not De La Hoya at the end of his Career or an Overrated Hatton” – News

By Manuel Perez: World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto had some bold words for Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach in an interview with Primera Hora, saying “Hey Roach, I have some news. I am not Oscar De La Hoya at the end of his career. I am not the overrated Ricky Hatton. Roach knows what Pacquiao will be facing on November 14th. It will be a war. So there it is. Cotto has unleashed the dogs of war and let Roach know what time it is.
The unknowing public, most of who only have a basic child like knowledge of boxing, had no clue that De La Hoya was shot and weight drained and that Hatton had seen better days many moons ago and just jumped on board the Pacquiao band wagon, positioning him as the number #1 fighter in all of boxing.
Boxing fans seemed to have missed that fight because if they did, Marquez would likely be the fighter that they would be crowing about right now and not Pacquiao.
This is going to be an enjoyable fight because Pacquiao it will give fans a chance to see how good Pacquiao is, after wins over De La Hoya and Hatton. Cotto starts tagging him with bigger shots than Pacquiao has ever been hit with before.
De La Hoya had nothing by the time he fought Pacquiao. He was just a half starved relic from his past glory days and in no real condition to compete in an athletic contest. Because of his crazy diet to make weight, De La Hoya had nothing left by the time he entered the ring against Pacquiao and had no power with which to hit Pacquiao. So right off the bat, Pacquiao got off easy in that fight and didn’t fight the real De La Hoya in my view.
And as I said previously in my recent breakdown of the November 14th Cotto-Pacquiao fight, Hatton was knocked out too quickly to land more than a handful of his power shots against Pacquiao. He still hit him a few times and seemed to stun Pacquiao at one point in the 1st round from a powerful hook to the head.
Cotto is going to have Roach and Pacquiao looking bad in this fight. We’re going to have to remove Roach’s status of the Nostradamus of boxing and give him a more down to earth title after this one is through.

Cotto’s the overrated one here. Cotto wins this fight only by knockout and it has to be done in the first 6 rounds. If that doesn’t happen, Pacquiao will knock him out late in the fight due to Cotto tiring out.
Just because Pacman was on his backfoot doesn’t mean he ate Marquez’s punches. Bert said watch the tape, you’ll loads of JMM’s punches hit Manny’s guard. Bert also forgot to mention the 10-7 in one of the judges scorecards. Who got the gift decision there?
Oh and btw it’s been several years since the fight. The judges have given their verdict so let’s just move on. All this lingering frustration is only bad for your health.
Manny is right in regards to Juan Manuel Marquez beating Pacquiao, wether you like the decision or not that was one of the worst decisions ever. Marquez has been the only fighter to stand toe to toe with Pacquiao. So it is not stupid to say that Marquez won, go back and if youre a so called boxing fan, watch the tape, you can find that fight anywhere, and you can clearly see Marquez winning.

Manny is not the same fighter when he fought Marquez twice, he is a much improved fighter since then, yet he floored Marquez four times before this. And talking about Marquez winning those fights? You forgot one judge admittede commiting a mistake by giving a score of 10-7 when it should have been 10-6 in the first round? Thst if 10-6 was scored by the third judge, pacman would have won the first fight. Four times knocked down yet people have the guts to say Marquez won? hahaha you’re funny.
whats with all the cotto haters? cotto said the right thing.. he’s no push around, he will school pacman i have nothing bad 2 say about the guy hes a great fighter but come nov 14th this smart puerto rican fighter will win and by k.o…. roach is a good trainer but hes starting 2 talk 2 much like mayweather sr…lol good luck team pacman!!!!
I was a neutral fan coming into this fight as both fighters are world class examples of the noble art!. However I will be the first to say that I am also of the opinion that Pacquiao lost to Marquez and I was in the neutral corner for those as well!
As for Del La Hoya he was SHOT even Freddie Roach has come out on record and said he saw IV drip marks on Oscar when he was entering the ring and admitted Oscar was picked for Pac because they new he would really struggle to make the weight! that’s coming from Pacs trainer and mentor so Pacquiao fans cannot refute this!
As for Hatton SHOT? or NOT? you cannot take anything away from Pacquiaos performance it was devastating! and that’s coming from a Brit and Hatton fan! Ricky was simply exposed for not sticking to a game plan!…again when it mattered!
At start of this I mentioned I WAS a neutral coming into this fight…..however this has changed! I’m starting to wear a little thin with Pacquiao and Roaches demands! Pacquiao if he is wanting to fight at WW and especially if he wants a crack at COTTOS BELT! should not have the right to dictate weights if Cotto wishes to weight in at his natural fighting weight between 146lbs – 147lbs he should be allowed it’s still within the WW limit! It’s up to Pacquiao to weigh in at a comfortable weight for him so long as he’s in theory between 140.1 lbs – 147lbs! He SHOULD NOT be allowed to get away with trying to force other fighters to drop below certain weights in order to try and gain an advantage which even a 2lbs weight loss can cause! For all the Pacquiao fans who say it’s in place so Cotto will not come into the ring bigger/as big as he usually does……tough sh*t! Pacquiao simply should not be fighting in the WW limit and should drop down to LWW and 140lbs max there will be people who say he then can’t get the big fights! well then face facts! Pacquiao/his body cannot fight comfortably at WW he’s attempting to do something he simply cannot achieve without forceful demands on weight issues.
Don’t get me wrong Pacquiao as a fighter is fantastic and great for boxing, but as a business his demands have become ridiculous and the sport does not need fights Like Del La Hoya! With this in mind I now hope Cotto beats Pac and quite convincingly so as to prove that Pac simply cannot deal with fighting in the WW division against Top elite fighters such as himself I only hope that 2 lbs does not effect Cotto as it will not do him or his career any justice at all!
de la hoya wasnt a fight for pacman at all so there for you cannot judge pacman on that fight also i think hatton had seen better days but still had alot let in the tank bt credit to manny he got rid of him early i personally think jmm won against manny also. im going for cotto in this fight i think hell be to big to strong and to tough the pwoer cotto has is nothing like wot manny would have felt before and i dont think mannys in and out tactics he always uses will work on the welta king which is COTTO!
Manuel Perez is not a credible boxing writer, he always took his word back, he made an article before that miguel cotto cannot beat pac because he is not the same fighter as before, and pacquiao is cherry picking in his fights.. But now look at this article..

perez i cant wait for the 14th of november cotto will once again prove hes p4p and cotto will be called shot or whatever by the end of the fight. dela hoya was suposeed to beat pacman then he loses so hes weight drained, HATTON WASNT SHOT, HE GOT SHOT, WITH A GREAT PUNCH END OF.
I wonder which fight you saw but what I saw was Pacman stunned Hatton in the first round not the other way around as you described. Sorry you didn’t get a chance to see how powerful Hatton was, I guess Pacman should apologize to you for knocking out Hatton cold too soon.
