ok then Wayne, how much UFC stars earn? You need to know that whole structure of salaries in UFC is different. Stars are on the percentage of ppv, and have their usual per bout money and then bonuses etc. So it's not so obvious how much they make. They have pension plans, best insurance plans, ppv cuts (stars), sponsorship money and get "golden handshakes" on regular basis. So tell how much it is? Because if you look at how many boxers are simply bancrupt, and how much of their wages is taken by promoters than you need to look at it from a different angle. I know Couture and a few others are realisticly making 7 figures per fight, but you won't find it on "official" payroll.
And there is many reasons why mma is taking over - not just matching best against the best. It's the fact, that people who are big fans of combat sports as such, are more and more shifting in mma direction, because it's a true "figting" discipline, unlike boxing, which is more of a sport discipline. Nowadays I have big problems watching boxing, because I'm very often thinking "why the hell won't go for a takedown?" when they're clinching. It's sould destroying sometimes to watch what the heavyweight division has become. No wonder ufc has better ppv numbers already, and the trend is upwards for mma and downwards for boxing. Better matchups and less weight classes would definitely help, but boxing is too fragmented and without a structure too make it possible imo. And when I read about IBF forcing abraham to fight lorenzo I'm just shaking my head - it's so moronic. what the f*ck made this guy a mandatory? the guy beaten by marquez, he was stopped by abraham? whom did he fight to earn it? the answer is in the pudding. i stopped watching abraham after miranda fight, as he's fighting bums. in heavy weight you have a constant flow of below average clinchfests and constant flow of bums challenging stiff robotic champions. give me a break - i can't wait for ufc100 and next wec. and affliction for that matter! there is not much left in boxing - it lost prominence as a combat and losing as a sport. it's a downward spiral

You are so correct! I also agree that MMA will fall victim to greed as well before it really gets a chance to cement itself in the mainstream. UFC is the best but Dana White is a dictator and the fighetrs resent him.
I like the fact that he makes top guys fight each other and he can because he has them all signed. The events make big $ but the fighters are not paid anything like the top boxers and thereinis the crux of the dissent.
In addition, because of rival bodies, like boxing the very best do not necessarily meet either. I agree greed is killing boxing but people like PBF is also milking the sport. They all want PPV $ but not everyone is a PPV star. And unless we get great matchups we won't pay to see Marquez vs Floyd. It is not an even fight and even if somhow it turns out to be one, going in, no real boxing fan feels Floyd shud b avoiding true welters. That is why it has not caught my interest and may have caused the delay. Fake injury?

Of course boxing is a sport. Money and power change people. Its no secret.

I would prefer if there was one all powerful boxing organisation which forced the best fighters to fight each other or lose their lisences to box internationally.

Sick of the best fights not happening because of politics.
