WBA Title Was Not on the Line In the Klitschko-Chagaev fight

By Sam Gregory: According to the WBA, (World Boxing Association), the WBA title was not at stake tonight when IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and Ruslan Chagaev, the WBA “Champion in recess” fought in Gelsenkirchen, Germany for the heavyweight championship.

That has been confirmed by WBA Legal Director Robert E. Mack. In a statement Mr. Mack wrote on the WBA website, “Please be informed that the WBA will not complete its review of either the matter related to the cancelled Helsinki heavyweight title bout or the recent Chagaev special permit request until after 21 June 2009, nor had it sanctioned any heavyweight title unification bout.”
