By Rick Santos: The sport of boxing has seen many mega fights in recent years. We can go down the list of the recent most memorable fights. There is no doubt that the 140 to 147 weight class is ranked in the top of the sport for many years.
Considering the styles of both fighters, it’s become clear that these two warriors will have something to say about how they are soon to be seen in the latest of great battles in the 140 to 147 weight classes. Both Cotto and Pacquiao possess styles and both posses what many might consider above average power for their weight class and the greatness to end the fight with one punch.
Still there are many Fans and experts alike that fail to rank Miguel Cotto in the super stardom category that Manny Pacquiao posses, even as Miguel Cotto list of opponents might have something to say about that possible title many as well believe that Cotto has earned by beating some of the best fighters in the 140 to 147 weight class has to offer, but only if this fight is officially signed, sealed and delivered will we know if boxing fans and experts alike have failed to recognize that Miguel Cotto is probably the most under paid and under rated boxer in the welterweight class.
It’s clear that fans in the United States and abroad are anxiously awaiting the official press release from the offices of top rank and Bob Arum saying that the fight has been officially made.

interesting fight. power vs. speed. pac will be tested. cotto has serious punching power, unlike the opponents that pac has faced in the past. pac will land more punches, no question. but cotto, it only takes a few clean shots by cotto to end it for pAC.
In short, cotto wins by tko in round 8 or 9. i also expect cotto throwing a dirty low blow somewhere around 3 or 4.
Let’s get something straight. ODLH was a shot, past his prime fighter that was more dead than alive when he fought Manny. Hatton was overrated and would not last against Cotto. Trust me on that one. And Manny in my opinion lost to Marquez twice. Cotto can do what Marquez does but Marquez can’t do what Cotto does. Cotto is a devastating body puncher, has a powerful and very effective jab, great timing and a great combination puncher. His hand speed is very good. Don’t take my word for it just ask Zab and Mosley. His defensive skills are underrated. No one holds the two Marquez fights over Mannies head and says that Manny is no good. If your objective and honest you would know that Clottey and Mosley would beat Manny. Don’t belive what I am saying. No problem, come fight night you will see for yourself. Manny is a human being and not some kind of a super human.

so im a big fan of both fighters…but honestly i think its going to be a war for the first 6rnds after that i think mannys speed, movement, and stamina will take it effect on cotto, suks cuz i want cotto to win….but on thee other hand as soon as marquez is done with mayweather..pacman better be ready for his loss, first one i agree draw but the second i disagree…pacman knows marquez can beat him which is the reason he has avoided him and decided to move up weight but thats ok because marquez is rite behind him!

for me cotto has fought fighters just as fast as manny and just as strong if not stronger. all on a regular basis. do any of you really think manny would beat clotty ? manny is good but look beyond the hype of the last 2 fights. harder fighters than manny have failed to beat cotto, but he does need a good corner . all in al a classic fight one I will pay to watch, but I dont see how manny can beat a top rank welter like cotto in his prime, who ia not afraid to get hit or cut, and will have been hit harder than manny can hit. has manny bean hit by someone like cotto, i,m not so sure, and cottos pretty fast and very accurate. ok cotto did not look 2 good in his last fight, but hey clotty is one extremely tough fighter, almost indestructable, and he didnt put cotto away. for me close fight but cotto all the way.

If pac is so sure he will beat cotto, why make him come down weight drained to fight him? I love pac as an exciting fighter that he is but this is not right.It looks bad and everyone knows it. I truely believe that if cotto sticks to his gameplan and disregards his size advantage he will wear him down.There is alot of truth to mp not being able to drop oscar. I know alot of it is because he is just not big/strong enough to do that against a welter.Mp will throw punches in bunches and in turn recieve body shots that will eventually lower his guard and he will get ko’ed.

with miguel’s high defense and head movement i dont see manny being able to duck under the right and comeback with an over hand right. this fight will definately gothe distance, i am predicting a points decision for Miguel Angel Cotto because he constantly comes forward with lots of aggression and isnt afraid to get hit in order to hit back, where as in round two of pacman v hitman you where able to see hatton hit on target and with some force before being caught very heavy with the left.

I read and heard that a long time ago, that Manny Pacquiao is smaller guy, and he will be beaten by all his opponents.But what happened he blow up those bigger guys. When somebody fight Manny, size and strength will not definitely matter.What matters most is the IQ of a fighter. Just like Juan Manuel Marquez, he knews that he could not beat physically, that is why he uses his head. and that gave Manny a problem.
Cotto is’t to slow, he throw excellent combinations, watch first six rounds of Cotto/Margo fight, a devastating jab and a rib breaker body pounch. He also have a lot of experience fighting with faster guys, Paul Malignaggi, Zab Judah or Shane Mosley.
The question is: If Manny is capable to hold 12 round with a real top welterweight at 158/160 lbs. on the fight, clenching, pushing and throwing pounches constantly with an significant accuracy?
If Manny Paquiao can do that, definitely and for good, his the man.

I don’t get whats all the hype with MAYWEATHER. Hes never fought any great fighters in their prime .He always waits until they’re old , beaten down , and well past their prime. Wile on the other hand you have COTTO,PACQUIAO,and other great fighters beating the living spirits out of each other , when their at the peak of their carriers. A fighter can only be the best until hes ffought the best. You cant say your the best if your ducking every elite fighter that wants to beat your preaty face up. Cotto has shown to everybody that for win him you need more than a stonehand literally. With Marga-Yesso he was winning till the 9 and 10 round did the people here forget that he doesn’t loss with clottley.. He can stop the fight in the 6 and he don’t… He’s a great fighter and boxer. I think that MP hasn’t ever feel a strong punch as Cotto..

If Pac Man want a welter belt and his 7 title, he have to fight on the division, with a true divisional champ and a real and natural 147. Because, if he don’t fight that way, for me and I think for others too, that 7 title is a bluff.
If you want to prove yourself on welterweight don’t ask for mercy or “I think we better fight on a catch-weight”.

I am as big a Pacman fan as anybody else out but I do not see him as a true welter. I am sure he can beat small welters who are not naturally big punchers, e.g. Floyd, Berto, but he should stay away from the bigger, stronger, maulers like Cotto, Mosley.
He hit Oscar with everything and could not put him down and never hit back with anything nor did Oscar maul and brawl to wear him down. He got hit with a few shots from Hatton but they were not flush and there was no accumulation and Hatton had no chnce to brawl and maul either. The fight was too short at 2 rds.
How can we be that confident that he can go 12 brutal rds against the big welters. These guys will rehydrate to 155-160 on fight night where Manny will only be 145-148. What impact will his punches have against guys who will be heavier than Oscar was at 147?
Manny will be too small for these guys. Sure he has speed and boxing ability, but so do Mosley and to a lesser extent Cotto & Clottey. People who do not understand boxing or who do not like Manny, do not seem to understand the reason for weight classes is to match guys of equal size.
This is not about titles. If Manny wants to win a welter title he can’t dictate opponents’ weight. This is about testing 2 men in the spirit of true warriors, wanting to meet at a fair weight where no one has a huge edge.
Think about it; Cotto can’t make 140 and it is not fair for Manny to fight at 147. So 144-145 is a reasonable catchweight. As we already know, the bigger man will rehydrate but he can’t risk it by adding too much or he will be sluggish. So if he does come in around 150, that is not too big.
Look Manny can stay at 140 or even 135 and clean up but he is a warrior unlike Mayweather & wants to face the best rather than wonder if he could beat them after he retires. He knows this is how to secure his place in history. More important, we the fans should be excited that the fighters are willing to make it happen.
Cotto, Mosley, Clottey, Williams and Mayweather all need Manny. He is the cash cow that will give them a huge payday. Ask the question. Are they anxious to gain weight and fight the 154 and 160 champs? The answer is NO! They want the big $ and also know even at 145-145, they will still have a decent edge.
This is not the same at 154 or 160. So if they want to fight Manny, they have to be willing to make it happen. Manny is not demanding they meet at 140 so please, do not demand he meets them at 147. If they can’t agree on a compromised weight, then there should be no fight.And we the fans do not get to see a mouth watering showdown! Right?

It will definitely be one of the greatest fights in history. It will be many’s toughest fight yet. I think this will be a great fight! I am a Puertorican from Caguas and i know Cotto and he isnt the same since the Margarito fight he is not hungry anymore. I think he is a great boxer but his new corner sucks, if he want to win a fight against Pacman he will need a good trainer who isnt afraid to tell him the true to his face and has a great figt plan because you that Roach has great one. I love Cotto and is sad seen that he is not enjoying it anymore.
FINALLY! A fight boxing fans want to see! Very intriguing matchup and guaranteed nonstop action. My opinion is that Pac will have a hard time coming in and out when he feels Cotto’s hard left jab. the two best or greatest fighter in the boxing scene today. this can go either way that is why the only way to know is for manny and miguel to bout and the bestman will be the victor. one cannot predict this match because this is the highest it can get in boxing. it is useless to make predictions only on nov. 17, will it be revealed.

If Pac is fighting the pre-Margarito version of Cotto, I’d lean heavily on the Rican to win, but now I don’t know, 50-50 to me.
Cotto seems to be different after getting whupped by Antonio. Pac struggles with counter punchers. Marquez capitalized on Pac’s limited ability to throw effective punches while pedaling back. In short, Pac paid dearly to Marquez’s superb counter-punching on the “out” part of his “in-and-out” style. But even though Cotto is not a counter puncher, he will find Pac and he will hit his mark. For the first time Pac’s ribcage will be put to legitimate test.
This will be a good fight. I am hoping that the catch weight handicap will not be much of a factor. That would be bad, that would open up a barrel of excuses for both sides.
Don’t count Cotto out so early.
Cotto doesn’t seem to be himself lately, not very impressive and confident in his last fight, Clottey had every right to be upset.
While Pacman has always been impressive, surprising everyone with his power and speed. The Pacman was watching Cotto fight Clottey and after the fight he wanted Arum to make their fight happen. Manny knows he can take Cotto.

Cotto is not Paquiao but he is fast, he have a tremendous jab, brutal boddy punches, he can box and move and he is smart on the ring. At this moment he clear all the light welterweight and welterweight divisions with only one defeat (with an * ).
For Paquiao this fight is the end. To big, to strong.
This is a win-win for pacquiao IMO.
If pacquiao will win this fight then people will respect him as a Pound4Pound champion.

Cotto deserves to be Manny’s opponent, and you are right that this will be a classic. Cotto is experienced, strong and can take a punch. He is definitely the stronger of the two, but Manny has speed, accuracy and stamina. This is a definite PPV CLASSIC, and its going to be a great fight.
You can’t be serious. You can’t compare Pac Man with real welterweights, real champions and top welterweights (160 pounds each in the night of the fight), he look like a monkey beside them.
Imagine Paquiao clenching and pushing Cotto all night.
Pacquiao has only looked vulnerable against Marquez, a counter puncher. Cotto is not a counter puncher. Cotto has only looked vulnerable against boxers that chase him, dodge his punches, and keep throwing punches. Manny will be faster than anyone else he’s fought. If Margarito, as slow as he is, can hit Cotto, I’m sure Pacquiao can as well. I’d have to go with Pacquiao. No discredit to Cotto, a terrific fighter, but I think he’s still not convinced that he’s truly beaten Clottey. He didn’t look too confident during the announcement of the winner. this might cause him to think too much during the fight. It might make him lose focus.
If Manny makes this fight last past 6 rounds, his volume of punches will be too much for Cotto. Cotto is strong but Clottey looked as if he wasn’t hurt by his punches. I seriously doubt that Cotto can hit Pacquiao as much as he hit Clottey or Margarito. Paulie gave Cotto a bit of a hard time, therefore, I feel that Pacquiao will give him a much harder time.
But who knows. All I know for sure is that this will be a great fight. Both fighters are great. Pacquiao seems to have an advantage because of his recent accomplishments. Cotto might still be haunted by his loss to Margarito and by the uncertainty of his fight against Clottey. He knows he won, but maybe not in the fashion that he would’ve liked to.
To big, to strong for Pac Man. Paquiao is one of the greatest fighters in the sport. But he is human and he is small for a 147 (160 next day). When he take a step in front of Miguel Angel “The Wall” Cotto he will suffer the consequences. Eight rounds with a lot of nice Cotto’s jabs in combination with a few good body punches will be enough for him. I see Freddy Roach throwing the towel, in Juanma Lopez vs Penalosa style.
cotto have good head movement when toe to toe. pac has quicker head movement and quicker foot work when doing toe to toe, even throwing a left while under the armpit of somebody. cotto is quick when his opponent lacks movement. pacman can easily evade cotto’s uppercuts. let’s see what’s roach’s strategy this time. if pacman can’t stop him before 5-6 rounds, its a unanimous decision for pac in the 12th. cheers!
It is clear that Cotto demonstrated lack of stamina after the first 6 rounds of heavy boxing. Cotto can fight 12 rounds only at his own pace, but with a punching machine like Manny as an opponent I doubt that Cotto can resist the pressure. Don’t think that the punching power of both fighters will decide the fight, none of them are rookies. The key of this fight will be the speed and stamina!!! Unfortunately PaqMan should win by unanimous decision.
Hard fight to pick. Two of my favorate fighters going head to head. It’s gonna be a war! Can’t wait! I’d way rather watch these two warriors battle it out then watch mayweather run from either or them for 12 rounds. Its got the makings of a classic!

In order to beat Cotto a fighter is going to have to be strong enough to force cotto to fight in retreat…ala Margarito and Clottey. The weight the fight is fought at is going to be key for Cotto. I believe if the Fight is made at 145 or above, Cotto will have the edge because he will not be dehydrated and Manny will not be able to force Miguel to fight going backwards. If the fight is done below 144 we may see a dehydrated Cotto who may not have the stamina to keep Manny off of him. I will make a bold prediction. If the fight gets done anywhere between 145 – 147 Cotto will win by a brutal knockout. Don’t be fooled into thinking that Manny is super Human. He’s not a big man, and he has a small body. Cotto is not a washed up DelaHoya, and he is not a come in face first with no jab, beer guzzling hatton. He is relentless and he will attack Manny’s Body. You will start to see that what I’m saying is true when Freddie Roach pushes for the fight to be fought under 144 lbs. peace..
