Klitschko wins the Ring magazine belt by way of 9th round TKO
By Sam Gregory – Tonight there were four belts on the line as Wladimir Klitschko (52-3 with 46 KO’s) fought undefeated Ruslan Chagaev (25-0-1 with 17 KO’s) for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world.
Commentators said the 60,000 seat soccer area was sold out for this fight.
Going into this fight I expected Klitschko to be his usual paw and hold style of fighting but tonight I have to say Klitschko did give a better performance than I expected.
In this fight Klitschko looked more relaxed and threw his punches with more fluidity then I can remember in the past. Chagaev stood in front of Klitschko all night eating punches which played right into Klitschko’s fight plan. Klitschko scored a 2nd round knockdown and then continued to dominate his opponent in every round.
In the 9th round Klitschko landed six consecutive punches to Chagaev’s face; and after the 9th round referee Eddie Cotton stepped in and stopped the fight.
Wladimir Klitschko is declared the winner by way of 9th round TKO and improves his record to 53 wins and 3 loses, 47 wins by way of KO. Klitschko now holds the heavyweight IBF, WBO, IBO and the Ring magazine heavyweight title belts. Ruslan Chagaev suffered his first defeat and falls to 25 wins and 1 loss.

Haye is the only one with any real chance of beating Klitschko. Let’s not forget he beat a fighter ranked 11th in the world at heavyweight and knocked him out in the first round. Arreola is fat and would be knocked ou by haye. He isonly getting all this hype because he’s american.
brilliant fight klitchko will become greatness
This was the best I’ve seen Wlad, he was more focused and performed like a champ, with the exception of looking scared when Chagaev did get close with his looping right.
Chagaev’s southpaw stance was his downfall in this fight, adding that to Wlads dominant use of the left, he was never going to get close.
Overall a good showing from both, but there was only going to be one winner!!
Why take chanches if you dont have to ?
Vladimir is highly supreme,, and that makes it of course a bit borring.
Stop nagging all the time.
and for the record – I’m neither British nor American – I’m Polish, and we have a border with both Ukraine and Germany. Half of my family leaves in Ukraine, and my grandma was born in Ukraine. I don’t give a rat’s ass where is the fighter from, just how he fights. He can be from US or from Timbuktu – that don’t matter as long as he’s exciting. Klitschko is not. He’s the best out there – no doubt – but he’s not exciting and I’m surprised what’s driving people to pay for the tickets (there’s no ppv, because worlds public don’t want to see that crap, he local – Ukraine, Germany, Russia), but German, Russian and Ukrainian tv is buying right to these pathetic “fights”, and he’s living good life from it.
Andre,
1/ go and watch lewis vs holyfield, lewis vs glotoa, lewis vs holyfield II, lewis vs grant – and tell me again he didn’t take chances… he was EXCHANGING
I agree it was the same old borring crap. Alot of you fans would think diffrent if he was American Though!
So boring all 1 2s. Wlad faught the smart fight which was boring i think he only threw 3 hooks.
Im actually starting to believe that wlad would ko haye now.I starting to wonder now who will beat him,Arreola loves to eat and not condition himself and Chambers failed against povetkin. And Povetkin had trouble with Mccline in a sparring session.
klitschkos style is pathetic…
Well done to chagaev he gave it his all but klitchsko was just too good at keeping him at a distance. If someone can close that distance klitchsko is in trouble because he is really scared of getting hit with a punch and will probably go in to panic mode. Whether or not haye can do this remains to be seen…
Haye would have been counted out by the right hand which Wladimir had used to knocked Chagaev down with in the second round.
Haye is not going to make it in the heavyweight division. Haye needs to back up his big talk by actually fighting in the ring. It seems as if Haye is now going to have to work his way to a title shot – which is what should have happened anyhow. Haye would not get past Dimitrenko, Arreola, Johnson, Boytsov and any other top 10 contender.
too bad i cant get the tye fields fight live!
david haye will be knocked out by arreola or chambers should he fight at heavyweight, chaegaev had beaten 25 in this weight class, who the hell did haye beat,he cannot even hold together long enough to ride the lightning, let alone win
Every time, when it is necessary to fight vs Klichko (s), his/theirs opponents (especially black ones, I am NOT a resist! guys) talk too much, promising a horrifying outcome. But the results are known…
Boxing is NOT a gladiators performance nowadays to justify the money for watching it, BUT business.
Klichko Brothers are not “professional hoons,” but skillful managers. Haye will be the next one…
Micheal, WHAT???????????? thats ridiculous!!!!
Comment to JJ.
Normely Lewis didn take much chances.
Lets face it. Wladimir is the greatest out there, and one of the best all time boxers.
I have the feelings that some commentators in this forum doesent like him because he isnt american or british.
Boring fight, Haye would beat the 2 of them in 1 round.
david haye has the wosrt chin in boxing – haye will lose if he fights any of the two klitschkos bros ————- haye stay away —– amir khan has the 2nd worst chin in boxing history he move up a weight to fight guys that cant win a fight by knockout and he move up because theres loads of knockout artis in 135lbs weight class just ask presscott hahahahahaha – 3 worst boxers in histroy 1.ali 2.lewis 3.khan
also the ref didnt step in… the boxer couldnt be arsed to continue and didnt have any heart at all…. same old story from these fat heavyweights that wlad fights
the crowd was there to see Haye not that fat lump. He was a disgrace and just another bum that wlad has beaten.. Interesting interview with wlad afterwards.. looks like a certain Hayemaker has annoyed him. Which will make it all the sweeter when Haye knocks him out
are you sure the wbo was on the line.you’re meant to be a writer on this site cmon et it right
If I was David Haye, I would go nowhere near this lad or his brother.
What a mismatch.
most boring fight ive ever seen, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, right hand, jab, jab, jab. bell, jab jab
agree – it was better then his usual pawing, a bit more right hands… I’d say it was his least worst of in last few fights. Not that I don’t see that he dominated, far from that. it’s just the total lack of excitement and not taking any chances which is making it unwatchable for me. not his fault though – he’ll do this because he’s to for very logical reasons. Chagaev on the other hand was as bad as in his last two fights. This guy was getting hit EASILY by a guy named Drummond, or Hammond. It’s very simple – Chagaev was probably the best available out there, and he’s crap. Next one in line is Arreola, who is crap himself, and was knocked down by guy named Walker (not johhnie btw). So we have all stars dream team here to make our life exciting. There is virtually NO ONE whou’d present any sort of a threat to Klitschko’s (I don’t know what to expect from Haye – so he’s an enigma for me, injured enigma for that matter). Regardless the crowds in Germany, heavyweight division, and boxing as a sport, is inevitably losing prominence. Don’t know if it’s sad or not – doesn’t matter too much probably.
