Haye vs. Vitali Klitschko In September?

By Chris Williams: Well, it’s starting to look more and more like David Haye will be getting a shot at WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko next without having to work any harder by facing a top contender before getting the shot.

According to Fight News, there is a potential bout between Haye and Vitali on September 12th, in a fight that either could be taking place in Germany or Ukraine. Klitschko had been previously rumored to be fighting a unification bout with World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev. However, that fight was shot down by Bernd Broente, the manager of the Klitschko brothers, who denied that Vitali will be fighting Valuev, saying that Vitali has no interest in this fight.

That’s got to be good news for Haye, 28, because it effectively means that Haye is getting the probable title shot against Vitali based on wins over Enzo Maccarinelli, Jean Marc Mormeck and Monte Barrett, sadly perhaps the three best wins of Haye’s seven year pro career.

I take nothing away from those fighters because they are three good fighters, but I’d be willing to bet that more than a few heavyweights in the top 15, as well as in the 2nd tier, could beat all of those guys. I don’t see those fights as being enough to warrant a fight with Vitali or even Wladimir, because I see all of them getting destroyed by most of the top heavyweights in the 1st tier.

Come on guys, don’t get carried away. Let’s just analyze Haye’s career before we start comparing him to Holyfield or Mayweather. Holyfield dominated the cruiserweight division and unified all the titles one by one. He was undefeated World CW champ for years. Haye has only had 2 world title fights at CW and was only champ for a few months! He was almost KO’d when he won the title against Mormeck and he had already been KO’d by a 40 year old Carl Thompson. He hasn’t dominated or cleaned out the CW division nor did he hold all the major belts. He hasn’t beaten anyone that wouldn’t be KO’d by most of the top 15 heavyweights. He doesn’t even have a punchers chance against the iron-chinned Vitali.

his chin is good! corrie sanders is a mule

  • JJ says:

if the klits are the best that’s just sad for this discipline of sport, which is inevitably losing its prominence. looking at their fights i’m wondering why i ever used to be a fan of boxing? then i put some tyson, bowe, holyfield stuff on and see two different world. again – i stopped watching a fight after the 4-th round or so. they can stick “fights” like this up their butts. lighter divisions are better then this. of course every sport has the champions they deserve. don’t know what it says about boxing, or at least hw division. probably young guys are chosing careers in other sports, and if they start traing now they rather go for mma as the money is shifting there

  • brettchko says:

another 1 or 2 fights and all ya will be addmitting that the klits. brothers are the greatest to EVER step into the ring i said this before its only amatter of time

  • Sid-p says:

Hayes vs Williams or Skelton would do as a start… J hope a year out of the ring has not effected him. I really hope he wins but is z 50/50 fight

  • THE PROFESSOR says:

Haye needed to fight twice more in the Heavyweight divison before can get a title shot. Haye vs. Johnson and Haye vs. O.Solis the man who beat Haye in the Olympic or even Haye’s vs. Eddie Chambers would be something to see.

  • nick thomas says:

The two heveyweight champions are bums Im 46 years old and can take on both champions in one night.

  • Nick says:

Tyson Fury has more of a chance of becoming HW champ than Haye. It would be good to see a British HW champ, however, I cannot see Haye winning the title or holding on to it for a few defences.

Haye can punch but his chin is not strong. He will get tagged by a big punching HW and we will see if he can take it.

  • Sam says:

Exactly, Mayweather won world titles at 4 different weights before he went to light middle so it’s fair to say that he had a good track record!
Haye, by no fault of his own, has beaten mediocre cruiserweights!
Lets not forget, he got knocked out by carl thompson and has been put on the canvas numerous times by other fighters, even by his own admission, he admits he is very chinny!

However, I do like the guy, he is articulate, has charisma, and is great entertainment.
Vitali was very unlucky to lose to Lennox!

  • zach white says:

Will be a good fight for boxing in general.

  • A-Force says:

    Rubbish article

  • internet hardman says:

thats y theres wieght divisions williams. boxing needs this fight, when was the last competitive hw world title fight, haye brings more to this fight than people give him credit for. tthe single loss on his record was due to stepping up in class to fight the dangerous carl thompson, where haye got his tactics wrong got stopped after underestimating thomson power.
many people thought enzo would beat haye goin into their fight but was totally outclassed by haye. he beat the tough mormack by coming off the canvas which showed he has plenty of heart(not something you can say about most of the klit bros recent opponents) and he beat barret(who had beat contenders & foaght at world level) in fewer rounds than klit or valuev managed.
he deserves his chance and i for one cant wait to see it

  • Ukansodoff says:

Thank the lordy if this happens.

Yeah so he hasnt earned the right to have a title shot, yeah so he hasnt faced any of the other boxers who he claims to be lightyears ahead of.

But seeing as pretty much everybody in the top 10 of the division is a carbon copy of everybody else who either Klitchkos have defeated easily its good to have something different in there.

I have never thought he would beat either brother but atleast if Haye got in there wed see something different than the usual morons soaking up the jabs and just standing there doin nothing but collect a paycheque and a beating.

  • Fletch says:

Haye will win this on speed alone ‘old Vitali to slow Haye might even get a stopege late!!!!!

  • wellsini says:

With all due respect David Haye is nowhere near the superstar Floyd Mayweather is so that is a crazy comment.

I’m British btw and a David Haye fan before anyone assumes i’m a biased Yank.

  • mark f says:

Rubbish article Chris, yes he hasnt really fought anyone at heavyweight to warrant a shot BUT

did mayweather jr fight any1 at Light middle to get a shot against De La Hoya?

Exactly the same scenario (amongst many others in America) yet I bet you didnt cry about that one

  • Jack P says:

Vitali is the better of the two Klitschko brothers. Slow he may be but he only has two defeats on his record, both stoppages to because of injury and both times he was ahead on the judges cards. The man is a beast.

  • novesen says:

I believe Haye stand a better chance against Vitali than Wladimir.. Vitali is sooo much slower and much easier to get into than Wlad. And also Haye’s style stands good against Vitali..

  • Owen KO Rowe says:

Haye will not win this fight easily. He may not even win. I am an English boxing fan so would love to see him win it. But win or lose he is shaking up a division that is sleep inducingly dull.

We should thank him for this. We need some good English and American heavies coming through to stop the eastern European upright jab masters and mix it up.

  • drum says:

haye will easily win this fight :)

  • Clint says:

Vitali was terrible vs Gomez, Gomez shouldnt have even been in the ring he is so bad and vitali still looked old and slow vs him.

Can’t wait to have a British heavyweight champ again :)

  • mitch says:

I don’t like to watch either of the klischko’s but one thing you can’t deny is the Vitali has a great chin on him so that really rules out hayes punchers chance. At least with Wlad if he connected he’d drop him. I don’t like his chances with Vitali though. He’s a hard man.

  • LOL says:

This will be a mega fight, Haye will have enough time to pump his muscles more then he already have to ownn vitali

  • Jack P says:

Haye is asking for trouble with this fight, he can only hope that that at the age of 37 Vitali has lost some of his power and stamina and if he can hold out for long enough then maybe he can wear him down. Otherwise this is nothing other than a defeat for Haye.

  • Fletch says:

    the child is you adam

  • Mike says:

Im a Haye Fan but I dont see him winning at all.The only Heavyweight that could hurt Vitali was Lennox Lewis and Haye has nowhere close to the power that Lewis had.I see Vitali’s good timing beating Haye’s speed,His only hope is to squeak a decision over Vitali and Im actually thinking Haye would need a miracle to pull this one off.I think he talked mess for the big payday and not for the fighting heart that he says he has.

  • Tsar says:

Vitaliy is very strong and unusual fighter. Haye will be just killed on the ring.

    Voise from Russia

  • Adam says:

Whatever, the quicker we get hype job Haye outta the picture the better. This will be a 2 or 3 round KO by Vitali. Like a man vs child.
