Guerrero Stops Hinojosa in 8

By Sam Gregory: In tonight’s ESPN2 main event from San Jose, southpaw Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (23-1 with 16 KO’s) takes on 37 year old Efren Hinojosa (30-5 with 17 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout in the lightweight division.

From the opening bell in the early rounds of the fight Guerrero stayed on the outside using his jab as a range finder looking to catch Hinojosa coming in. Hinojosa was an easy target for Guerrero standing straight up for his opponent.

Hinojosa had little power on the punches he did land and Guerrero took advantage and dominated his opponent through the middle rounds.

Going into the fifth round Guerrero was averaging over 30 connects per round. He landed his left hand to the head than went hard to the body having complete control of the fight.

In the seventh round Guerrero suffered a cut above his left eye due to an accidental clash of heads. The clash of heads came as a relief to Guerrero, as he said when the fight was over; this was his chance for redemption. His last fight was stopped because of him not being able to continue after a clash of heads.

Guerrero continued to fight on with a bloodied face through the eighth round. After the eighth round the referee called the fight due to an injury to Hinojosa declaring Robert Guerrero the winner by TKO.

Guerrero improved his record to 24-1 with 17 KO’s; Hinojosa fell to 30-6
