Cintron Outlasts Angulo Through 12

By Sam Gregory: In the co-main event of the May 30th edition of HBO’s Boxing After Dark from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida the former undefeated Alfredo Angulo suffered his first defeat at the hands of former welterweight contender Kermit Cintron.

Kermit Cintron went 12 hard fought strong rounds in what was probably his best ring performance to date. Angulo was a game fighter throughout the fight and to his credit took Cintron’s best punches; he just wasn’t able to keep up with the faster Cintron who always managed to get his punches off faster and never gave Angulo the chance to land more than one good punch before Cintron moved out of range.

Angulo gave it his best shot frequently changing to the southpaw stance against Cintron who had the better defense throughout most of the 12 rounds. Angulo turned out to be nothing more than an average quality fighter at best even though he started coming on strong in the second half of the fight which proved to be too little too late for the 26 year old Mexican fighter.

All three judge’s saw the fight the same way scoring a unanimous decision for Cintron 116-112 on all three cards.

Cintron improved his record to 31-2 with 27 knockouts while Angulo fell to 15-1 with 12 KO’s.
