dodson435By Nate Anderson: Super middleweight Tony Quigley (13-1, 6 KOs) stopped Tony Dodson (24-5-1, 12 KOs) in the 12th round for the vacant BBBofC British super middleweight title. Quigley, 24, dropped Dodson twice in the 12th. After a badly hurt Dodson got up from the 2nd knockdown, Quigley nailed him with a left-right combination, at which referee Howard John Foster stepped in and halted the fight at 1:14 of the 12th.

Dodson, the former BBBofC British super middleweight champion, was cut on his nose early in the 1st round. He did reasonably well in the round. However, he was cut again a short time later in the 2nd, getting cut above his left eye. The cut wasn’t a problem and he continued to fight well in the 3rd and 4th rounds, hammering the light-punching Quigley with big shots.

In the 5th and 6th rounds, the action was back and forth with both fighters landing well to the head and body. Dodson seemed to hurt Quigley with a big right hand in the 6th and battered him through much of the round.
In the 7th, Dodson began to fade and had problems with Quigley’s movement and sharp jabs to the head.

In rounds eight through eleven, Quigley took over the fight, jabbing and pounding Dodson with fast shots. For his part, Dodson looked spent, having used up all his fireworks early and was now missing a lot and looking more than a little desperate.

In the 12th, Quigley went on the attack mode as Dodson looked totally exhausted and there for the taking. Quigley nailed Dodson with a big right hand to put him on the canvas. After he got up, Dodson was hit by a left hook and then a right hand, at which point the fight was stopped by referee Howard John Foster.
