John-Juarez Bout Ends In a Draw

john53553By Sam Gregory: At the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas undefeated featherweight champ 29 year old Chris John 42-0-2, (22 KO’s) made his American debut against 28 year old Houston, Texan Rocky Juarez 28-4-1 (20 KO’s) in a 12 round championship fight for Chris John’s WBA featherweight belt.

The opening round started with both men feeling each other out with a few jabs and some clinches, John landed the more significant punches in both the first and second rounds. It was early in the fight that John showed better boxing moves and ring generalship.

Going into the middle rounds it was clear Chris John had a strong chin as he weathered some solid punches from Juarez.

In round five John backed his challenger against the ropes and landed a right hand that opened a cut above Juarez’ right eye. Up until this point in the fight Chris John was averaging 50 jabs a round.

Going into round six it was clear John was the busier more elusive fighter and outworking Juarez. John continued to step up the pace and by the eighth round seemed to be leading in the fight.

In the championship rounds it looked like it was Chris John who was still landing the cleaner more effective punches. Juarez did come on pretty hard through many of these rounds that could have been scored either way. Going into the 12th round both fighters corner told their man they needed to win this round to win the fight and as it turned out that’s exactly how it was.

At the end of 12 rounds all three judges’ cards were the same, 114-114 a draw.

Chris John retained his featherweight title.

Chris John won that fight about 118-110

CJ fought a great fight. He was robbed plan and simple. If the judges actually saw the fight (or were they looking at the round card girls) there is no way was it a draw.

Well after a 2nd viewing through clearer less drunken eyes id have to say it was a little closer than i may of stated and Jaurez may of had a little more power than i give him credit for in my previous post.

But i still thought John was a clear winner.

The judges scorecards didnt stink of bias or anything in this fight, not that i agree with them in the least.

I think everybody was expecting a little more from John, to win each round very clearly until the fight was called to a stop.

It didnt pan out like that, he didnt beat Juarez to a pulp but he did beat him in most of the rounds. the punch percentage was clearly in his favour and that alone should of been enough as he was at no poiint in any trouble from what Juarez had.

Chris john should be the winner by observing the 12 rounds. Juarez didn’t show the boxing skills anyway. The 3 judges, all from his home country are sided with Juarez therefore Chris John is robbed. One of the judges should be from another country, say, Japan or Thailand. By this, the decision will be fair.

It was grazy decesion…..! there were CJ game, I think everyone agree if CJ won the game, at least must 115-112 for CJ.

  • Mike says:

This was totally unfair, props to chris john for defending his title in the challangers back yard and he was completely robbed. Chris john won that fight fair and square there was no way it was a draw. On the upside he gets to keep his title and looked very impressive on the night

This is absolutely a disgraceful decision. Chris John won the fight straight, and this is not even a close decision. All the stat and TV analysts indicated 116-112 decision, which is far from 114-114. Chris won 9 rounds, and lost 2 rounds with 1 round as draw. It is an easy decision win for Chris John. I agree with some of the comments posted here, that they should not have 3 home country judges to judge the fight, when we have one of the fighters from foreign country. This is simply wrong to be unfair… However, at least Chris John still keeps the title, but hopefully we will see fair decisions in the future.
