peter4542354By Sam Gregory: In the main event Samuel Peter, who came into this fight at 30-2 with 23 KO’s was also stepping in the ring at the heaviest weight of his professional career at 265 pounds. His opponent, “Fast” Eddie Chambers was fighting at one pound less than his heaviest weight; Chambers weighed in at 223 pounds.

The extra weight showed on both fighters as both men looked slow, sluggish and winded throughout the fight.

In the first round Peter went right to the body of Chambers who answered with a combination but mostly stuck to using his jab. Chambers’ jab worked well for him in the round, his defense worked well too as he avoided most of Peter’s punches.

In rounds two and three Chambers was able to land his quick jabs and avoided Peter’s body attack. Chambers was the busier puncher in the early rounds.

Round four was more of the same until Peter was able to land a big right hand that caught Chambers attention midway through the round. Chambers still landed more punches and controlled the round.

By round five Peter was trying to walk Chambers down but wasn’t able to get punches off fast enough, Chambers defense helped him win another round.

In round six Peter’s extra weight was paying its toll, he was much slower and wasn’t putting as much into his punches. Both fighters were breathing hard by the end of the round.

At the start of round seven Peter had only won 2 rounds at this point, his punch output dropped significantly too. Chambers was only flicking his single jab and by the end of the round Peter put a couple combinations together, probably enough to win the round.

Between rounds seven and eight Peter’s corner told him he needed to win the rest of the rounds if he was going to win this fight.

In round eight Peter continued trying to walk Chambers down but Eddie’s defense didn’t let the Nigerian land anything of significance. After this round Chambers corner told him he needed these last two rounds if he was going to win the fight.

In round nine Chambers landed a good combination and Peter returned fire. It was probably the best round of the fight for Sam Peter as he was able to land a couple clean solid shots.

The final round came down to who had more left in the tank. Both fighters looked low on fuel. At the end of the round Peter backed Chambers against the ropes and let his hands go but didn’t land enough to amount to anything.

Eddie Chambers outlanded Peter in every round and when it went to the judge’s score cards they saw the fight 95-95, 96-94 and 99-91 all for the winner by majority decision Eddie Chambers.

Chambers record improved to 34 wins and 1 loss, 18 wins by KO. Samuel Peter fell to 30 wins and 3 loses, 23 by KO.
