Cruiserweight boxer Enzo Maccarinelli has paid tribute to Joe Calzaghe, who announced his retirement from boxing this evening. Maccarinelli described him “the best British fighter ever produced”. Speaking to Setanta Sports News Maccarinelli said that Calzaghe “had nothing left to prove”. He said:

British heavyweight boxer David Haye could fight both Klitschko brothers as part of a sensational two-for-one contract being thrashed out by lawyers. Speaking to Setanta Sports News Haye admitted that the two-for-one contract was “being talked about”. He said:

Commonwealth heavyweight champion Matt Skelton has called out David Haye. Skelton, who defends his title against Martin Rogan on 28th February, said he “absolutely would” like a shot at Haye. Speaking to Setanta Sports News Skelton insisted his comments weren’t personal. He said:

The King returns to the coast! Undefeated IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (28-0, 23 KOs) will take on Lajuan Simon in Kiel on March 14. “I have big plans for 2009,” King Arthur said. “I will start with Simon – and at the end of the year I want to be super-champion at middleweight.”

World ranked cruiserweight contender BJ Flores will head to Bristol, CT this Friday night, February 6th, to co-host ESPN’s Friday Night Fights studio show with Brian Kenny. Flores will be co-hosting as part of an agreement recently announced with the leader in sports entertainment with further appearances in 2009 to follow.

Three of the four fighters who will be featured on Saturday’s excellent doubleheader on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING participated in a workout Wednesday that was open to the media and public. It was held at the TKO Boxing Gym in Anaheim, Calif.
