O’Connor Decisions Saunders, Smith Defeats Gonzalez
By Sam Gregory: From The Seminole Hard Rock Casino, Hollywood, FL – In the first fight of the night southpaw Danny O’ Connor won a majority decision over Jamar Saunders in a 4 round Jr welterweight fight. O’ Connor moved to 4-0.
Gonzalez was carrying the offensive flow of this fight throughout the first two rounds when Antwone Smith scored a flash knockdown in round two. A cut surfaced over the left eye of Gonzalez that was caused by a right hand from Smith in the third round.
The fight was pretty even on the unofficial score card throughout the middle rounds when in the sixth round Smith came alive and let his hands go, Gonzalez was there to trade punches as the two went toe to toe in the most dynamic round of the fight.
When the fight ended after eight rounds all three judges cards had it score the same; 78-74 for the winner by unanimous decision Antwone Smith who improved his record to 15-1. Gonzalez suffered the first lose of his career falling to 16-1.
