Darchinyan Too Strong For Arce, Stopping Him In The 11th!
Photo: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME – By Sam Gregory: Going into tonight’s main event the last thing any hard-core fight fan that knew anything at all about Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce wanted to see was a boxing match…if either of these pint-sized dynamo’s meant anything they said over the past two weeks with the mudslinging, name-calling and trash-talking we were in for a fight; that’s what fans wanted and that’s what we got!
A cut developed under Arce’s right eye at the end of the first round.
Darchinyan’s straight left keep landing early and hard which made Arce look bad early on; Arce keep circling to his right which left him open for Darchinyan to land his hard left hand. Arce also was leading with his head which made him open to Darchinyan’s uppercut.
In the third round Arce got Darchinyan’s attention with a left hook and solid right that caused Darchinyan to clinch.
In the fourth round Arce found a home for his right hook that rocked Darchinyan who later in the round hurt Arce with a left hook of his own. The two fighters began to brawl in the center of the ring and the crowd erupted.
Arce would occasionally work well on the inside but when he moved forward he would lead with his head that threw him off balance. The fifth round ended with a slugfest, both men letting their hands go.
Darchinyan began showboating in the sixth round. Throughout the fight Darchinyan was able to keep his cool showing his impressive boxing skills. When Arce landed one of his wide punches Darchinyan shock it off and landed his straight left with accuracy. Arce hit Darchinyan with his best shots but barely slowed him down.
In the ninth round Arce complained to the referee about being hit behind the head. He was hit hard on the right side of his head and began bleeding from his right ear. By the 10th round the commentators had Darchinyan ahead in the fight by an overwhelming margin. Darchinyan demonstrated superb boxing skills throughout the entire fight.
The later the fight got the further apart Arce got with his stance and the wider his punches became.
By the championship rounds it became obvious Darchinyan was too strong, too skilled, too fast and too good for Arce.
At the end of the eleventh round the fight was stopped due to cuts of both Arce’s eyes. At the time of the stoppage all three judge’s cards had it 109-100 for Vic Darchinyan.
Vic Darchinyan’s record improved to 32 wins, 1 lose and 1 draw with 26 knockouts; Darchinyan was knocked out once in his career.
Jorge Arce’s fell to 51 wins with 5 loses and 1 draw, he had 39 KO’s and this was the third time he was stopped.

if vic will move to 118 aj banal will knock the lights out of him..that is if vic wants to fight him..and if vic moves past nonito..last time i heard, vic’s manager doesn’t want his ward to fight nonito.
the only logical thing for vic is to have a rematch with his tormentor nonito donaire, then fight z gorres who made him look like a fool and almost knocked him out..there is no other fighter in 115 to give a challenge..montiel has moved to 118, and so did aj banal, who i’m sure has the tools to ko him…too bad aj has outgrown the 115 limit..i’ve seen him at 115 and he looked better unlike in 115 where he was like skin and bones.
darchinyan just proved he’s the king of 115!…arce was game but he was no match all throughout against vic’s power. his only consolation is he did not get kayoed, which he can brag to mijares…of all the darchinyan fights i’ve seen only two made vic look stupid and vulnerable. one of course is nonito donaire who, with his left hook, sent vic to la-la-land!..the other fighter is z gorres who almost knocked darchinyan in the 2nd round and toyed around him all throughout the fight..z is a very good all-around boxer..the only thing missing in him is power in his fists..he also made a fool out of montiel who got lucky to get a decision.
But since ive typed this ive heard that Arce had to be rushed to hospital later after the fight.
I tihnk i agree with Rudy, he was taking a bit of a beating at this point and im in no doubts the score cards were well against him but 1 more round in the fight im sure he could of seen it through without taking too much more damage.
But Darchinyan was very good, his style threw Arce from the off and he just couldnt find a way in without takin alot of punishement.
Darchinyan was amazing to watch he has his own style and it always seems to be changing and adjusting to his opponents weaknesses. Although Arce did put up a good fight, in the end he was no match for Darchinyan. I actually was at the fight and the energy in the crowd was great. It was a great night at the fights. Darchinyan is a great champion. Infact from what I understand he is the first Armenian boxer that has reached the level that he has. So he is not only a credit to boxing but he is also a credit to his race. What an honor that must be for him. I look foreward to being at his next fight.
pre-mature stoppage. allthough losing, he deserved to finsh. he earned it!!!!
It was a good fight, mostly one sided on Darchinyan’s part, but when the combinations and trading went on, boy did it go on.
this are the kind of fights that bring the exitment in boxing! action through out all the rounds exchanging punches, combinations and all!!forget all that other boring crap (holding and running)!!
