Cotto Too Much For Jennings
By Sam Gregory: Both fighters started out relatively slow in the first round but picked up the pace in the second; Cotto landed the cleaner more aggressive punches and won the early rounds. In the third round Cotto had Jennings on the ropes and snapped his head back with a straight right hand. By the end of the third round Cotto threw a flurry of punches and finished up with two hooks to the body of Jennings.
In round four Cotto landed his straight right jab with consistency and followed up with several hooks to the body. Cotto dropped Jennings twice in the fourth round to win a decisive 10-7 round.

seel pacman, all floyed did was run, yet he was the best p4p. so dont say people who runa away the whole fight should join a marathon, or any of your imature little things. Its called a game plan you dope.
PAC WILL NEVER BEET OR EVEN FIGHT COTTO, COTTO AND BERTOAD WOULD BE ONE HELL OF A FIGHT, I THINK BERTOAD WOULD WIN BUT I WOULD HOPE NOT
Seel for Pacman shut up you retard its quite obvious if you go to a fight to get knocked out You try and stand in front of Cotto if you go there to win you dont stand in front of Cotto Jennings wasnt renowned for have a great punch so the only way he would have won the fight is fight SMART NOT NOT RUN pick him of with the jab…..Simple Way to say it for a simpleton like yourself dont brawl a brawler Done enough abat RUNNING if you got in a ring and tried to box any profetional boxer you would get knocked out QUICK ! There fore you wuold be “”"RUNNING”"”
hey ukansodoff! then why the heck did jennings fight him at all? next time tell your jennings to join a marathon or something.
i forgot how good Cottos body shots were. the way he throws them EVEN IF you saw it comin your not sure whether to put your glove up or down.
Cant believe he didnt bother using it against plasterito
Jennings definitely came to win. He tried his best and much respect was showed by the three time champ Miguel Cotto. To be honest i aplaud the impartiality by the british fans because 99% thought cotto would win even if in their hearts they wouldve loved jennings to win. What impresses me the most about Cotto is his respect for his opponents even Margarito who i believe should have used plaster against him. So we as fans can take a page out of Cottos book and respect one another as real boxing fans.
Instead of calling Jennings a bum, why not ask the question why, in this day and age, with the strength of the current Welterweight division so many potential superfights aren’t coming off?
Why doesn’t Mayweather fight Cotto/Margarito/Mosely (ok he’s “retired” now but why didn’t he? Why doesn’t anyone fancy Williams, why do you Yanks call JC a coward when these guys could be having trilogys with each other.
Big shout to Jennings for having the balls to go in there with someone such as Cotto. I’m sure Hatton wouldn’t think twice if the opportunity came around and Cotto seemed to welcome the idea. Don’t think Hatton could do it but at least the guys got heart.
I don’t think anybody stated that Jennings was going to win, just that he didn’t deserve to be a 10/1 or even 12/1 underdog.
I stated that he had a good chance of causing an upset if he could avoid getting hit by anything big early on. As it happens, he didn’t manage that. He got caught several times in round 3, which bloodied his nose and he got caught to both the body and the head in round 4 before Cotto finished it in the 5th round.
The upset also relied on Cotto suffering some ill effects from the beating he took against Margarito. Cotto conclusively proved there none. He beat a decent boxer who lacks power but nothing else. Jennings is certainly no bum. If you put Jennings in with some of Cotto’s other victims, like Gomez, he’d beat them easily IMHO.
I stand by everything I said previously. If Jennings had fought like he did in round 2 for the rest of the fight, he wouldn’t have been knocked out and he wouldn’t have lost by much. It was the only close round in a fight otherwise dominated by Cotto.
Congratulation Miguel Angel Cotto. He couldn’t have made a stronger statement than that emphatic win.
no brit said jennings was gonna win, but some said he had a good chance DEPENDING on how he would react to his last defeat. jennings went up against the best and we all wiched him well as he is probably the most genuine guy in boxing, but yanks, please dont claim cotto as your own, he is puerto rican, theres plenty of yanks who jennings would beat
the only bum out of all this is jason.
It takes guts to step into a ring against a renowed puncher.
I bet the closest jason has been in the ring is his finger up his own.
seel for pacman, the whole idea of boxing is to hit and not be hit, watch floyd mayweather junior.
ps I was an amateur in my younger days so i know what its like to get hit.
Jennings v Cotto … why ? Jennings was never going to acheive more than getting his ass whopped !
Jennings is s fairly decent level domestic fighter, but is now where near ready for world class. He is not a ‘bum’ as some rather idiotic fool stated above ( Jason, I think he calls himself ). he does not have the record of a bum by any stretch of the imagination … and it would take a only an ignorant bum to make such a suggestion to begin with !
The UK has better up and coming fighters in that division than Jennings, but none of them are truly ready to step up to the level of a Cotto, apart form Hatton ( who would mix it very well with Cotto ). Problem is, Cotto has stated that he doesn;t not want to fight Hatton as Light-welter, and, in truth, Hatton is no good at full-welter …so, I guess that is a fight we probably won’t get to see.
As for Jennings, he should return to standard huntings grounds for domestic glory and maybe look to learn more from a top notch trainer before trying to step up again to wolrd level …
hey ukansodoff, what is jennings’ smart plan? is running around the ring like a scared little girl a smart plan? i didn’t see him do anything but backpedal! boxers who just run around the ring should change to athletics and join the 100m dash or something, maybe marathon…and if they continue to fight it should be in a smaller ring or a phone booth…i hate boxers who just run!…that fight was nothing but a sparring session for cotto!
Well that fight went to plan, me along with quite a few on here didnt see it goin past 5.
Cotto looked in total control, Jennings stuck to a smart game plan but just like Hattton v Malanaggi Cotto could not be kept at bay by Jennings power.
Cotto is back on the train, what now? Plenty of options, but for now he should forget revenge fights, rematches, money makers and get the fights he needs to clean up the divisions belts cuz theres no doubt hes still the man.
Jennings can come back home, have a rest and carry on fighting at British and European level. No shame for him here, he was given the oppertunity, he was a massive underdog for obvious reasons, he gave it his best, it wasnt enough, not a this level against this opponant.
Im sure he has no regrets, at the end of his career he can point to Cotto and say he had a go and in proberbly the worlds most famous venue too.
I’m not aware of anyone who thought Jennings was going to win.The fight panned out pretty much as people thought, with Cotto having too much strength and power for Jennings who at best is about top European level.Good on Jennings though for going to the States to take on such a big task.
WHAT I SAID HUH!!!! THAT GOES FOR ALL THOSE THAT THOUGHT JENNINGS WAS GONNA WIN. I’ll tell ya over n over again, Cotto is the best in his division, the fight with Margarito is well understood now, isn’t it? “Plaster” Can you here me now??!!
Cotto just whupped dis bums ass,but Jenning showed heart,i give him dat!!
