Why Hatton Will Be Destroyed By Pacquiao

hatton54346745By Chris Williams: In weighing the pluses and minuses of each fighter, I can’t find too many areas where Ricky Hatton matches up well with Manny Pacquiao. However remote Hatton’s chances are to win, I can’t see him coming up with a lottery winning performance in this fight. He’s too simple, crude, one-dimensional and terribly limited to beat a fighter with the speed and power of Pacquiao. The fight won’t be a pretty picture by the end.

In one corner you have a fighter with incredible speed and excellent foot work and in the other, you have a fighter known more for his bum rushing and wrestling style of fighting more than his actual skills in the ring. When is all said and done, Hatton will likely be left a bloody mess by Pacquiao, face down on the canvas like David Diaz was in his fight with Pacquiao in a 9th round stoppage in June 2008.

Only a handful of fighters can give Pacquiao any kind of problems, one of them being Juan Manuel Marquez, but Hatton isn’t nearly as skilled as Marquez in my estimation and not the kind of fighter that will give Pacquiao many problems. Between the all the punches he’s going to be eating from Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGMN Grand in Las Vegas, I can’t see him doing much landing of his own.

Pacquiao tends to dish out so much punishment that when a limited fighter like Hatton finally gets a chance to throw some punches, he probably won’t have much power to do anything. I think this is a good fight for Hatton to potentially shot his stuff to worldwide audiences, given that he’s been mostly sheltered for the vast majority of his career in England.

But from top to bottom, Hatton has fought very few talented fighters aside from Floyd Mayweather Jr. that you could point to as someone that would prepare Hatton for a fighter as tough and as skilled as Pacquiao. Experience, or lack thereof for Hatton, will be a problem for him. Beating faded fighters, a whole lot of them in his career, Hatton has somehow skipped over taking on some of the fighters that he should have fought by this point in his career. That’s not good.

At the same time, Hatton has entered into this fight with thoughts of the future, making comments about wanting to take a rematch with Mayweather down the road. That seems as if Hatton is looking beyond this fight, as if he’s too confident about his chances in this fight.

That’s not a smart thing. More likely, Hatton will be facing some serious career decisions about whether he should retire or carry on with his career if he ends up taking a beating as bad as I think he will. Frankly, I wouldn’t pay a dime to see him fight if he gets trounced by Pacquiao. Oh, I’m certain Hatton will move forward into fights with Oscar De La Hoya or some other top fighter, but it won’t be something I feel that he deserves given his probable loss to Pacquaio.

lol all of this talk is moot! Hatton got KO’d, flat on his back in the second round!!!! BOOM!!!! end of discussion.

  • Anonymous says:

Hatton will get KO’d!! Pacman is a great fighter with better speed, footwork tactics & can be explosive at unexpected moments. Hatton is also a great fighter, but is too predictable which gives Pacman the edge to win. Only time will tell.. This will be a great fight to watch!! Place your bets guys – My money’s on Pacman all the way!!!

Hey Rex,your not Chris Williams in disguise are you?

Ok some British Fanatots are beginning to be PIST OFF by my relevant Insight. lol…

P.S I NEVER SAID THAT I NEVER SAY AN A APOLOGY SPECIALLY IF I HAVE THE REASON TO BACK UP MY THOUGHTS…

  • Mark E says:

Yeah Pacquiao is a class act except his being greedy over the purse but I will re-iterate. While You are right that Hatton didn’t have to get a job aged 7 there are no spoiled brats raised on a manchester housing estate.
Its the kind of place you leave your car and come back to find it on bricks.

  • Rex Giacomo says:

What I mean is that Ricky got all that he wants in life the day before and after he was born in this beautiful world. He doesn’t get to the point that he have to get a job as early as 7 years just to support his Mother in raising his siblings. He never felt that coz His a spoiled BRAT.

I still adore Pacquiao when he was Defeated by Eric Morales, for I know this guy is the Phenom that could give excitement in boxing; also I like his Gentlemen acts he don’t get into Word wars just to hype’n a fight, he lets his opponent talk to the media and say what ever they want, he just do what is necessary, and that was to train hard and focus to the fight and never thinks of anything.

Unlike Ricky who’s state of mind was already far far ahead than on May 2nd. We know what that means, he was overly confident that he will get pass by PACQUIAO; that would only be his biggest MISTAKE.

    Over Confidence can KILL YOU…

    MAKE SENSE

  • Mark E says:

Rex wrote: ‘As I have told you Ricky was Born with servants around Him,his already have all he wants in life, so making it to the top would be very hard, he just don’t have it Ricky lacks the real DESIRE to get there.’
So it is true. Americans think everyone in Britain is posh and on personal terms with the queen.
Do you actually know anything about Hattons background? There are no servants or silver spoon in a Manchester housing estate.
    Have you ever watched Shameless?

  • ukansodoff says:

Oh and unlike some so called fans, we dont count on him for anything.

We support him in his fights, we want him to win, so far hes done that 45 times out of 46. Better than Pacquiao.

And when he lost to Mayweather the fans still sung his name, after the loss he filled out a massive arena for his next.

If or when he loses again we will still be here. We are proper fans who support Rickie Hatton, not just follow a guy until he loses and you lose interest.

  • ukansodoff says:

Born with servents around him? What the hell does that mean? Infact what the hell does that matter?

Hasnt got the desire to get where exactly? double weight world champion status?

His pre training exploits are frowned upon no doubt and it wouldnt of done him good but its not exactly robbed him of a succesful career so far.

And looking ahead before the fights happened is never a good idea but he aint the only 1. Ive read many an article on who Pacmans getting after Hatton and what he plans next.

  • boxer101 says:

Go Pacman. Let’s see history made in our time…

  • ukansodoff says:

Im British, and i have been suprised by the lack of support from American fight fans for British boxers.

I aint been on here that long, i was hoping for none biased articles and unbiased comments but we clearly dont get it on here.

But not to be bitter im also suprised the brits respond to the biased comments by taunting the American scene. If theres ever 1 thing to not taunt its the quality of boxing that comes out of America. I believe theres still pllenty of top notch boxers in America and at any time anything up to 20 future world champions could come out of the lower levels or amateur ranks.

And to be honest i wish they would. I love boxing and quality boxing and i will happy watch it where ever it comes from.

So that’s another poster who’s had his posts deleted for critiscising the authors, the list is growing,i thought it was just me.What type of show are these clowns running, are they now afraid of free speech?

  • jordan s says:

i cannot wait to see the look on mr yank’s face when hatton wins this fight. i honestly believe this will not be rickys hardest fight. yes pacquiao has beaten diaz(hatton would get knicked for gbh if they fought) and of course yes he beat an old weight drained de la hoya(which by the way my nan could have stopped dlh that night) but, americans totally underestimate hattons power and the fact that he has never lost at light welter. he is too big for any fighter at lightwelter. hatton will win this fight…and thankgod people who write absolute crap like this article do not and never will run boxing, thank god promoters do.

  • ridgie says:

Pacman will stop Hatton in the middle rounds. Whether he has the power to ko him , only time will tell. But his spped, just like against David Diaz will cut Hatton to pieces. It’ll get very bloody and very messy.

Hatton has enough power to stop Manny, if he is to do this tho it needs to be inside 4rounds (which he is capable of). After 4 rounds its Manny all the way.

Im afraid Hattons diet, lack of top level opponents and ability to cut so easily will be his downfall.

The one thing that does annoy me tho is this mythical P4P rubbish.

Does anyone actually believe that if Hatton happens to land the jackpot punch that he’s really theP4P king?…
Oh please… give me a break, he’s not even in the top 10 P4P

  • Scott D says:

    oops, forgot name change

  • scott says:

Change of name seeing as there is another me on here. Pac knocked out Diaz, not with power, but with a large number of punches. Diaz sat in the corner and said hes not hurt, its not Pacs power, its his speed. Taking this into consideration, yes, it is possible for him to knock Hatton out, but, he has to hit Hatton and there stands the problem.

Pac will have to take punishment to dish it, and nobody at Light Welter dishes the punishment like Hatton, a few body punches will either stop or slow Pac, either way, he is going to have problems.

I do enjoy the debates on this fight, i just wish the writers werent so one sided in starting it.

  • OwenKORowe says:

I’m sorry Rex but you are just begining to sound like all the other Brit haters on thi site. Give it a rest. PLUM

  • Mark E says:

Now come on Rex, Pac Man has the biggest mouth of any video game character. His main move is eating his foes.

  • Rex Giacomo says:

Pacquiao is a better Fighter and most importantly a Better Man than Ricky.

Ricky and his trainer has a BIG MOUTH that they speaks to much like a girl.

Manny Pacquiao doesn’t do that he just let his FIST do the talking inside the ring.

  • Rex Giacomo says:

Whether Pacquiao is not that powerful at 140 as you Brits fans saying, though I still believe Manny is the much powerful fighter between the two.Well to tell you; like the Margarito Mosley fight, Shane is not anymore as powerful as before come to that fight, but why did he beat Margo in Knock out Fashion. That’s because Mosley threw a BARRAGE of punches that makes the bigger Margarito weaker.

That fight is like a prelude for the up and coming battle between the Pacman and the Hitman. Sadly no matter where you look at it skills wise and ring smarts it all leads to one and that is the P4P king PACMAN.

Just accept it British Dude. or you might as well try to look at the previous fights of the Two Pugilist and analyze it.

Rich C it’s now happened to me a couple of times, especially when i’ve been on slating that other Hatton hater Michael Lieberman.I would have thought that one of the criteria to be able to contribute articles on here would be a general impartiality, but these guys are clearly the proaganda arm of some fighters and haters of others.I think Eastside boxing wants to get it’s act together and sort these people out. They’re just a joke.

  • aff says:

brill article, pac mans gonna ktfo hatten ,hatten is out of his league in this one,i dont see pacman even breaking in to a sweat before he demolishes this overrated fat man,who has fought no great fighters in his whole career, tyzu was over the hill,as for money wellyou know hat happened there, anyone who lives in real world knows hatten has no chance whatsoever.this fight is for a last payday, you have to respect hatten hes made his money ,but as for his so called legacy ,he is in danger of being seriosley hurt.

  • OwenKORowe says:

Jon you are a tit. There is no chance Pacman can knock out Ricky. He just aint got the power. Yes he is powerffull. But only for a lightweight!

Ricky is pwerfull for a light welter. Any boxing fan, American, British or otherwise knows that and it makes a difference. HE WILL NOT KNOCK HIM OUT. He will win on pointts if at all.

I really have had enough of you septic tanks not giving Hatton the praise he is due. He has lost once, against the then P4P king. At a weight to which he was not acustomed.

You just sound like idiots as you are unable to right subjectively without slating Ricky. There is no doubting Pacman is the more skilled fighter but a winner that does not always make. At his weight he is unstoppable. Coming up the weights….. Very beatable.

  • JON 909 says:

There is no doubt that Pacman will defeat Hitman because he is FASTER and as much as a WARRIOR as Hitman is, and if Hitman just comes bum rushing in he will get KNOCKED OUT just like Mayweather did him.Got it mates

  • timmmmmy says:

Your gonna look stupid when hatton does beat pac and to be honest when he does you should be sacked from this web site. There wasn’t one comment in that article that made sense except obviously how good pac is but apart from that u havnt a clue

  • OwenKORowe says:

I do think its time for the yanks to admit that the UK is more of a boxing power than they give us credit for and that the USA is no longer world beaters.

David Haye will take a heavy weight title.

Ricky Hatton is by far the best light welter.

    And dont forget Calzaghe.

Bye Bye Yanks. Its time to accept that Europe and UK are ruling the way.

  • dave morris says:

Willianms you obviously dont no nothing about boxing! when hatton fought paulie M every1 said he was to slow one dimensional blah blah

and that paulie was to fast and skilled but what happened???

and all pacquiao has done is beat a dehidrated ex champ!! hatton will bully pac-man and break him till he either quits or gets knocked out either way hatton will win!!

  • coop says:

chris williams, just another ridiculous yank, who is just bitter because there are decent american fighters anymore.hatton to win by late round stoppage

  • OwenKORowe says:

Paul has nailed it. Pacman has got a bit big for his boots since DLH.

I think Hatton wants this more. Boxing is not set in stine, just look at Margarito – Mosley. No-one saw that (or the potential cheating.

DLH was not right for that fight and that was evident. Pacman had an easy ride. Hatton aint that!

Prediction from me – Pacman to try fight at distance but Hatton to bully in. Hatton to stop the fight in the mid rounds.

  • Paul says:

Not a balance article. one sight angle only. Boxing is always surprising, This is not a mathematics, that everything is for sure. For me, Hatton will be the winner, whats the reason?….Hatton’s will to win is beyond Ur prediction!

  • ron u..k. says:

I posted on here an hour two ago,it was up there on the board but now it’s gone.Did Mr Williams not like what i wrote?

  • ukansodoff says:

Did Williams just copy and paste the same reasons why paulie malanaggi was guna beat hatton?

pacquiao is more skillful than hatton, he really is and we all know it. but skill alone doesnt make you the better guy.

if hattons size and strength advantages are there to see against pacman then manny is in big trouble.

and if hatton loses williams wont go pay to see his next fight? whooooooo so what, i will and so will thousands of others just like we did the night in manchester in his return fight after his loss to mayweather.

williams you think hes guna lose? fair enough your not alone and if hatton cant bully him then maybe i will agree. but dont try and knock his tactics when his tactics have took him so far already in his career and DONT TRY to tell us Hatton fans what we will do if he loses.

Were not like you, were Hatton fans, if he was to lose his name wont change to breanda smith it will still be rickie hatton and we wont stop being his fan. that would jsut make us glory hunters following only winners.

  • the sween says:

What are you on, mars me thinks. Hatton will bash him up.

  • OwenKORowe says:

Hatton is not as quick as Pacman. Hatton is not as skilled as Pacman. However, Hatton can take a punch like no mans business. Hatton has the power to knock out any light welter on the table.

I have travelled to Vegas with Hatton on a couple of occasion and will do it again come May. This is going to be a fantastic fight. The winner will be the man who gets to fight the way he wants. If Pacman can keep the distance and pick of a forthcoming Hatton it will be a points win. I honestly do not think he can knock out Hatton. If Hatton gets to bully and keep the punches short and works the body then i can see him chopping down Pacman.

Whatever the outcome, Hitman – Pacman will be a fantastic fight and will open the doors to pick a fight for the winner. I’d like to see them both fight Mayweather. Hatton if he wins against Pacman needs to straighten the record. Pacman – Mayweather for a P4P crown. Priceless!

  • peter says:

What is your problem with Hatton, when Ricky destroys Pacquiao i’ll will stick in your yanks faces so much you’ll never wanna come on this website again. And i read in boxing monthly magazine and they asked 28 boxers or promoters and theu had it 14-14.
