Walsh Destroys Walton

walton3524By Nate Anderson: Unbeaten lightweight Liam Walsh (4-0, 3 KOs) stopped journeyman Shaun Walton (4-42-3, 1 KOs) in the 1st round tonight at the York Hall, in Bethnal Green, London. Using a fierce body attack, Walsh, 22, trapped a badly outgunned Walton up against the ropes late in the 1st round and worked him over with a series of hard body shots until the referee stepped in and halted the fight with Walton still standing.

Walton argued with the stoppage but he wouldn’t have lasted much longer, perhaps another round, if the fight had continued longer.

Walsh went right after Walton at the start of the fight, darting across the ring and immediately battering him with hard body shots and hooks to the head. Walton didn’t even have a chance to retaliate because Walsh continued blasting him with double hooks to the body and head, mixing his punches up from body and head quite nicely. Walton steadily kept backing up while taking shots for much of the round.

Finally, he ran out of real estate and was trapped up against the ropes, at which point Walsh appeared to hurt him slightly with a hard left hook to the midsection. Walsh continued pouring in body shots until the referee stepped in and halted the one-sided slaughter before Walton could be seriously hurt.
