Pacquiao Wants a Bout With Either Margarito Or Mayweather
By Eric Thomas: In an article from Ron Borges at Thesweetscience site, Freddie Roach, the trainer for WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs), said that Manny wants a bout with Margarito, whom he thinks he can outbox. Roach further said that Pacquiao won’t ever be defending his WBC lightweight title and that if Juan Manuel Marquez wants a fight with Manny, he’s going to need to gain some weight and move up to the light welterweight division (140 lbs) and meet Manny there because that’s the weight class that Pacquiao will be moving to next.
According to Borges, Pacquiao walks around at 140, so it’s easy for him to fight at light welterweight. He’s feels better at that weight and has more of his strength and speed, Roach says. However, before Marquez and Margarito can get a shot at Pacquiao, he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. next after Manny finishes his fight with Ricky Hatton on May 2nd.
The time off from boxing, however, may end up being a problem for Mayweather if he ends up fighting Pacquiao. Mayweather appears to be fighting for money at this point in his career, aiming for mega fighters, rather than his love for the sport and it’s questionable whether he has the dedication to beat an active fighter like Pacquiao.
Things should look a little more clearer once Pacquiao fights Hatton and fans are able to see how well he does against Ricky. Many people are already choosing Pacquiao to win the fight, giving the more crude Hatton much less of a chance to get the win. Both fighters are roughly the same size, despite the fact that Pacquiao has fought at the lighter super featherweight class previously. That’s going to be a problem for Hatton, because he’ll not have too many advantages going for him in this fight other than his toughness and power.
If Pacquiao is at all serious about fighting Margarito, it would seem as if he’s biting off more than he can chew. At 5’11”, Margarito is a large welterweight who throws a lot of punches per round, and unlike De La Hoya, Margarito is strong at welterweight and can punch at a high rate in every round.
Pacquiao could probably use his legs and jab to keep Margarito on the outside for awhile, but it’s doubtful he could do it for long. Sooner or later, Margarito will catch up to Pacquiao and punish him much in the same way that Antonio did against Miguel Cotto while in the process of taking him out in the 11th round in July.

I hope Magarito fights pacquiao
im seeing this:
Pacquiao beats Clottey then
Mayweather beats Mosley then
Pacquiao beats Margarito then
Mayweather beats Paul Williams
Then Pacquiao beats Mayweather
then Boxing dies
“Mayweather has extraordinary skills, better than even Pacquiao. ”
Way to put your personal opinion on an article, Mr. Thomas. But it does really depend on which “skill” you are referring to. The only skill I see Mayweather being better at than Pac is his defense, and that gap isn’t very wide considering Pac has tremendously improved upon this aspect.
a lot of people will be very suprised about pacmans next fight,,i see hatton geared right up for this one,and predict hatton to stop the pac in the latter rounds,,hatton has floored some better opposition, and manny will feel the difference in class,my prediction hatton ko rd 5
pacman is gonna make mince meat out of hatton
pacman will get through hitman
He has to get through the brick wall that is Ricky hatton first!
Pacman will and gonna beat the Hitman in passion, no matter what he do or what Floyd Sr. teach him in the end he will still use his old time style of brawling, it is Ricky’s bread and butter play. And you know if he apply this to Pacquiao; Hatton will end up K.O’d by the P4P king.
And to Mayweather he’s not that fast or anything,I described his game as DULL/BORING one. he only knows to do is to cheap shot his opponent or more on hugging/clinching less action fights. his a small guy whose style is for the hevyweights. its a hard fight for my man pacquiao but floyd has his weakness and that is gonna revealed by pacquiao.
careful what you wish for. i’ve seen it a million times. a fighter starts thinking he’s all that -and loses focus. already they’re talking about who pacman will fight 1,2 or 3 fights down the line. he can’t take his eyes off the guy he’s fighting next -hatton. i have a feeling hatton is way more viable in this one than people think.
roach will cool the talk and get manny focused. he has to. beating oscar was nothing. roach knows that. getting in with a live guy is different. very different.
for what it’s worth, imo: pacman could outbox margarito for awhile, sure, but would probably lose a decision. or margarito walks him down and finishes him late. either way. not sure manny has the firepower to keep margarito off him.
floyd would turn pacman’s lights out – floyd is faster, bigger, hits hard — he can outbox and outslick manny easy –and floyd flat-out has the best defense in the boxing behind hopkins. how does manny beat that??
wtf are you guys talking about?hatton looses to Pac and Margs, Pac Beats Mayfeathers, and looses to Margs, hatton get murdered by Margs and cotto, and cotto barely gets by Pac, barely.
Yeah defo ben if he done that he would be right up there with duran and everybody. In my opinion I cant see him beating any of them tho. I believe mayweather would out box margarito, I think hatton would possibly do a better job than cotto did wid margarito if he used his boxing ability purley because he has better fitness but I agree he would prob fall short on that one.
Pacquiao, I beleive, would have a much better chance beating Magarito than people may think! He’s faster than Cotto and has a much better workrate… although I actually beleive Hatton will beat Manny.
The funny thing is Hatton probably would lose to Margarito too, Margarito would be to big and vicious. But that’s boxing, styles make fights.
Can you imagine would kind of star Pacqiao would be if he went through Hatton, Mayweather and then Margarito! that would in my opinion put him in the top five pound for pounders of all time… maybe even higher!
