Hatton Wants Rematch With Mayweather
By Matt Stein: Ricky Hatton still has an urge to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., mentioning in an interview today that he wants a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. if Ricky successfully defeats Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd. Saying that he’d like to fight Mayweather and that he wants to pick the ref, likely a slap at referee Joe Cortez, who prevented Hatton from fighting on the inside as much as he’d like in Hatton’s fight (a 10th round TKO loss in December 2007) to Mayweather.
Since that time, Mayweather has refused to budge from his retirement, even with fights against Hatton, Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya waived in front of him. It may not matter if Hatton defeats Pacquiao or not, because Mayweather will come back when he’s good and ready and not before then.
It’s hard to say what would be different in a rematch even if Hatton can persuade Mayweather to take the fight. Hatton looked slow and unable to match the incredible boxing skills of Mayweather last time out.

I agree Chris, slagging off the Sex Pistols was below the belt!
True, but we all can dream seel, lets not burst our bubbles before they have to be
dream on ricky! floyd’s style is so hard for manny or ricky..he is just too elusive, eel-like…i am a pacman fan but honestly floyd is way above these two guys..no way can manny or ricky ever beat that arrogant but great boxer floyd mayweather!.. i hate mayweather but can’t help but be amaze whenever i see him fight..mayweather is really the best whether we like it or not!
Hatton has stated in todays press that he contemplated retirement after, by his own admission,a poor display against Lazcano but feels redeemed after his fight with Malignagi, but now wants another pop at Mayweather before he retires.
With better preperation and conditioning im sure his strength could go with him if he does step up again, lots of fighters do it.
Im not having the sex pistols getting slagged off they wernt about finnese, class, or natural ability they were about rawness, originality energy, great song writing, and charisma that you cant learn. I hate these guitar buffs altho Iv got to say I love Jimmy
Hatton could take Hendrix out. Look at Hendrixes record fougth 0 won 0 lost 0
I suppose you could say Hendrix has never been stopped but hes a dead musician so all this im sayin is completley pointless!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHA bored at work
It would be so disapointing if Hatton beat Mayweather in a rematch. Hatton fights like Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols plays guitar, all heart but with no finesse or class or natural ability. Mayweather is like Jimi Hendrix. Like Hendrix, Mayweather is a natural and extremely gifted talent but the problem with boxing is one lucky body punch and it can all be over.
This is why the big named fighters don’t give smaller named fighters a chance. Because anyone is beatable by a lucky punch or having an off night.
Yeah but Judah didnt take any chances its like he accepted the loss and was happy to go the distance without trying anything radical to claw his way back. As for hatton he is all about p4p strength but when he moves up a division their added weight counter acts his natural strengh because he is pushing a heavier target even tho hatton is p4p stronger than most of them. I think thats why I think he would struggle against mayweather with him having so much more versitility and why I think he is going to beat pac.
im british yet i c manny beating hatton, convicinley, as 4 mayweather, hatton was out of gas after 4 rounds going 4 the stoppage 2 much, judah gave floyd a lot more trouble. Hattons last 2 fights are nothing 2 go by, malinaggis overated, has no power whatsever, struggled in his last two fights before and his right hands virtually shot
ukansodoff hit the nail on the head – he needs to concentrate on his next opponent.
I think he’ll beat manny and tempt mayweather out of retirement coz floyd knows Hatton brings in the money and I think Floyd will see it as an easy pay day ko’in Hatton again. Floyd wont like the idea of Hatton being the pound for pound king, his ego wont like that one bit.
I think Hatton will have a better chance of beatin Floyd this time, that bein due to Hatton lookin like a new fighter last time out thanks to Mayweather Snr.
Hatton to beat Manny then Hatton v Mayweather rematch early 2010
Hatton has fought boxers nearly as skillful as Mayweather and won.
The problem with Mayweather is hes a welterweight. Hatton seems to lose all his best attributes when stepping up just that 1 weight and cant bully his opponants.
So thats why hed struggle to beat him. Hes big enough for Hattons tactics to not dominate him and then his skills shine plenty.
Maybe if Floyd was a natural Light Welter Hattons would have a better shot but thats the way the cookie crumbles i suppose.
I woulden’t go that far shack. Legends are like Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns, guys who fought the best and dared to be great. Mayweather could have fought Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, Mosley, Berto. Then there is decent fighters such as COllazo, Cintron and Quinatana. If he fought all of these he would be ranked up there with the greats, but he focused on fighting the likes of Zab Judah and a welterweight Ricky Hatton instead.
It may prove to be another defeat for Hatton if it were to go ahead but his style has changed since training with Mayweather snr, there will hopefully be further improvement before the Pac fight, if he wins that then who knows, maybe he can give it a fair crack next time round
i think ricky stands no chance against floyd.Floyd has the greater ability and boxing skills,he will be remembered as a legend. If manny is not stopped then he will win the fight sorry ricky
Concentrating on his next opponant is what he needs tp be doing right now.
But yes we all know hed like another pop at Mayweather.
