Look For De La Hoya To Easily Beat Pacquiao
By Manuel Perez: In watching some of the sparring sessions for this Saturday’s mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya, I go to say that I don’t see Pacquiao having much, if any, chance at beating De La Hoya. The added weight that Pacquiao has put on his small frame, some 12 pounds, has had the effect of making him slower, less mobile than he was at the lighter weight classes. At the same time, he remains what he was before – namely a small, 5’6″ fighter, trying to mix it up with a much bigger 5’11″ De La Hoya.
Though Pacquiao has a reputation for hurting people in the super featherweight division, his punches won’t have nearly the same effect against De La Hoya, whom has been fighting as a light middleweight for the past seven years and is accustomed to taking punches from much bigger fighters than the 130 pound Pacquiao.
It’s all well and good that Pacquiao will be coming into the fight at roughly the same weight as De La Hoya, but the added weight that Pacquiao put on won’t translate to him hitting any harder than he ever did as a super featherweight. In truth, he’ll probably punch a lot less harder than he did previously and will still be the equivalent of a super featherweight fighting a light middleweight.
If he put on weight slowly over time, then maybe he would have the chance of bringing a little more power into this fight, but that’s not the case here. Even if he did, though, he’s so short, I doubt that he would be any more powerful than someone small like Ricky Hatton.
I’m not about to give Hatton a chance against De La Hoya, and he’s probably a much harder puncher than Pacquiao can ever hope to be. De La Hoya doesn’t even need to punch hard to beat Pacquiao. With his long reach, he can simply keep Pacquiao at the end of his jab all night long, clinch him when he gets in close and shove him when he gets crowded at times.
Pacquiao, without being able to reach the taller De La Hoya, will be totally neutralized, and totally helpless to stop him from controlling the fight from the outside. Pacquiao, 29, has never fought anyone close to being as big and as skilled as De La Hoya, with, perhaps, the closest thing coming to him being 5’8″ Erik Morales, who gave Pacquiao fits in their first fight, beating the Filipino star by a 12-round decision.
Prediction: De La Hoya by unanimous decision.

it was a mismatched indeed, oscar is no match with pacman, he cant even hit pacman. LOL
wow, are you really a writer? I really can’t believe it if you are.
hahahahaha
Well… hope the humble pie tastes good for you
what have you got to say now?
you were saying? hehe!
pacman will get knocked smooth out he never has fought anyone really everyonr he has won are old fighters on their way out but today history will predict dela hoya will whoop that ass
manny is not going to show his best stuff with others watching. also remember that he weighed 147 for his last fight. weight is not a problem. you may remember the trouble forbes gave him. he marked up oscars face. manny is a better fighter. oscar is at the end of his career. anything can happen, but oscar has not been able to press the trigger lately. this is about speed and power, oscar has power, he may not have the speed at this point to catch manny.
oscar is just cashihg in again just look at the forbes fight that will tell you all you need to knowthat manny will outwork and out classs the much over ratted de la hoya
I missed the weigh in and cant find any news reports on it and am interested in what Mombo said.
He was 5 pounds under the limit? The limit of 147? Making him weigh 142? IS that what you mean?
Or 5 pounds under the limit as in hes weighing the same as a light welter?
Surely if hes 5 under the limit but still higher than 140 theres no rules against that what so ever?
agree with mombo
what an article? this is my first time reading a boxing article that has no sense. you better retire poor man! wake up man you you better resign for what youre writing! it has no sense!
i just watched the weigh-in. not sure DLH should be that light. might hurt him late -he better rehydrate the right way.
but i have a big problem: how can pacquiao, contractually, come in so light? he’s 5 pounds under the limit. that’s not fair, is it? if oscar has to cut weight, pacman should have to put weight on -and weigh in with 2 lbs of the limit or so. otherwise, he’s made no real sacrifice. why have weight divisions then? on that scale, technically, a flyweight is middleweight because he’s not over 160. manny could have come in at 135 i guess.
manny has the advantage, though, and i think he looks ready. oscar looks confident. he might know something, but might be false bravado.
my call:
manny by ud. oscar’s face will be as red as a baboon’s ass by rd. 4. lots of holding late by pacman because he’ll bank 7 out of the first 8 rounds and will be avoiding the hook. they’ll trade at the closing bell, per usual. etc.
