David Haye vs. Cristobal Arreola – Who Would Win?

By Alan Thomson: The best American heavyweight versus the best British heavyweight. Two fighters who enter the ring with the same intentions – to seek and destroy.

What would make this fight so compelling is that both men have huge power and are not without their flaws. Apologies to my British friends but Haye can be a bit wild with his punches. And sorry my American compatriots but Arreola is defensively challenged. He is about as evasive as a lamppost. And raw power mixed with openings created by either wildness or lack of movement adds up to a knockout.

Both men have good boxing skills honed in notable amateur careers. Haye was a silver medalist at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in 2001 where, after giving Cuban legend Odlanier Solis a standing eight count, lost via third round TKO.

For those unfamiliar with Solis, he is an Olympic gold medalist and three-time world amateur champion who has never lost in any type of world tournament.

Arreola had an amateur career consisting of approximately 200 fights and won the U.S. National Golden Gloves tournament in 2001.

So who would win?

Arreola, despite the fact that he gets hit early and often, is like a freight train that never stops coming. He absorbs punishment and finds a way to dole it back out. But he’s never faced anyone with the combination of quickness and power that Haye possesses.

Haye has used his hand speed and sharp, powerful punching to knock out 21 of his 23 opponents. His lone loss was by TKO to 40-year old Carl Thompson as a Cruiserweight back in 2004. After unloading everything he had on Thompson’s head for nearly 5 rounds, Thompson turned the tide and began battering Haye, causing his corner to throw in the towel near the end of the round.

So the likely questions are would Arreola be able to withstand the quicker Haye’s assault until he could land meaningful punches of his own? And if and when he did, how would Haye react to them?

My feeling is that Haye would be just a bit too quick for Arreola to deal with. I can’t imagine this fight going the distance, so after dealing with some adversity of his own I think Haye would win by stoppage sometime in the middle rounds. But when two bombers like these step into the ring, anything could happen.

And I sure would like to see it if it does.

Yeah I agree… As everyone knows on this site I am a huge David Haye fan and go to every single fight.. I believe he will become a heavyweight champion however to call Chris Arreola or any other heavyweight boxer a novice when Haye has only had 2 heavyweight fights is totally insane and your making yourself look stupid with comments like that!!!

  • Adam says:

Novice boxer?Whew..I dont believe i have to say anything else on that comment but i will anyway.Your a complete dips*it.Last time i checked Haye has a total of 0 belts in the heavyweight division and the Klitschko’s have a total of 4 and counting.Moron

  • H-Town says:

David Haye will knock out that novice boxer. They are not in the same class and for Arreola’s own safety he should stay the hell away from the HAYMAKER. If Arreola ever does get in the ring with David Haye he is going to get KO’d and streached out of the ring in the first three rounds.

  • Adam says:

And i hear your point. But their rated higher than Haye and they should be considering that Haye has a total of 2 Heavyweight fights.2 other things real quick. The Klitschko’s may look slow, but understand that their 6’7 and 6’8.There isn’t 1 fighter out there that has gotten into the ring with them that has left the ring sayin they were slow. And as for the coward comments,i consider someone that tries to take the easy way out without working for it a coward. Especially in a siuation like Haye is in where he came in with nothing but mouth and talked mad crap about 2 Bros who have worked their as*es of to get where they are.If the Klitschko’s were ignorant enough to run Haye down and say they were gonna lose weight and come take his titles from him and expected to fight 1 or 2 fights and get a title shot.I would have the same remarks in store for them. But they would never do anything like that.

  • ukansodoff says:

I actually agree with that in some way. Haye has shouted his mouth off chasing them both looking for a quick route to the top, and i also think its wrong and he should be taking more fights and earning the right to titles fights.

And us brits are getting excited by it, but who wouldnt.

But i dont agree that hes a coward, ive seen nothing ever in Haye to put that on him. And hes had 2 fights at this weight and won them both extremely impressivly, id say he needs to be seen as a full heavy with plenty to offer.

To me Barrett looked quicker than Klitcsko when they fought, and Haye made him look super slow and it was his pace that allowed him to unleash the power and that pace will be even more noticable against either brother.

Also id say alot of brits aint convinced Haye could beat either brother, we do however think hes got a better chance than alot of boxers people rate better than him.

  • Adam says:

And by the way,you Brits are cool in my book.I think you should open your eyes and realize that a big mouth fool, weather he’s American,British,Chinese or whatever, doesn’t make a sport better.Respect and hard work are what makes a sport better and that’s what the Klitschko’s have been doing since the beginning.I’m heading on vacation so i wont be playin with you guys for a couple days.C ya.

  • ukansodoff says:

hahaha, im beginning to enjoy this website.

I also have no problems with the 2 Ukranians. They have been the only real stand out boxers since the likes of Lewis and Tyson retired.

But we crave excitment and they dont give that to us. Most the blame can be on the style of thier opponants which is why people are happy to have Haye arrive on the scene.

Win or lose there is somebody out there now who is not coming into the ring as a fat man with a punchers chance who works like hes in slow motion. Hes fast and is guna throw bombs and still have his punchers chance. Surely thats what we want over the likes of Peters who was a joke in the last title fight.

  • Adam says:

And jan, sorry bout the math.I shoulda kept it to adding and subtracting so i wouldn’t confuse your stupis as*.LOL

  • Adam says:

Ahhh jan you cant stand me anymore?Do fkn bad.The truth hurts. You say Wlad got KO’d by nobodies?Who and the fk did David Haye get knocked out by?LMFAO..Idiot.

  • jan says:

the same here – listen, ain’t saying klitschko’s are bad fighters. what i’m saying is their fights are dull, plain boring, not worth watching. i went to see klitschko vs ibragimov and it was like watching early jarmush movie hoover scene – wladimir used his right hand – correct me if i’m wrong – 5 (five) times. every time ibragimov breathed out he was backpedaling. so i came to the conclusion that basically i don’t give a damn about how “good” someone is, but what i look at is how “exciting” he is. Watching vitali vs peter was another boring experience – worse than volleyball for disabled – so i simply quit on watching’em – once and for all, unless one of them fights haye. he’s the most exciting heavy, and probably the most exciting p4p fighter out there now, regardless if he’ll loose or win with klitschko (i personally thing he’ll beat wladimir pretty easily by ko, and have trouble with vitali)

  • A - Force says:

lol Adam chill out!! Why the constant bad attitude?

  • Adam says:

i answered all your questions but they deleted my post.I will repost my comments in about 2 hours. You make it sound like your questions where complicated or something..lmfao.Be back to make you look foolish.

  • A - Force says:

Dave, Adam will not answer your questions. I have noticed you are very mature and calm and make valid points. Adam doesnt know how to do this!!! If you dont act childish and get abusive then he is out of his comfort zone!!!

I have been reading all your comments mate and you have made some cracking points over the last couple of days

  • calvin says:

adam needs to read my coment on “will haye survive the klischko brothers”to get the bottom line.
Now to the point,i saw glimses of areolla and he got knocked down by some unknown guy?! haye is good defensive and offensive it will be a good fight for haye to take becuase ariolla is clearly overated.I can see it now, haye flattening him with one of those right hands.(sorry america)

  • dave says:

well adam, i notice you havn’t answered one single question of mine that i put to you, but then again thats what i half expected i suppose.

yes, the klitschko’s have performed very well in the heavyweight division over the years (they are world champs after all). however, you can’t deny that wlad has over the last couple of years turned into a dull, over-defensive and lame fighter. vital on the other hand is a bit more interesting, but has only just came back from a long lay-off and is very injury prone, so unless he gets some more fights under his belt then i doubt he would be able to beat haye (this is as long as haye can get his own stamina problems shorted out and sustain a high-pressure performance lasting at least eight rounds against him).

on your point about if the klitschko’s were british we would be praising them as if they were gods or something like that, i seriously doubt it. in my opinon wlad is as interesting as danny williams on a good night, so any chance of praise would be at a minimum.

now on haye. you mention that he runs his mouth off and is very ignorant. 2bf, i agree with this (although i would say he is arrogant, not ignorant). but he has so far backed his words up with actions (three world titles in 21 fights says it all) and if this is such a bad thing, do you also have the same view on mayweather jr?
yes he fought a relativley poor fighter in barrett, but he was a good opponent to help him bed in to the division and has mixed it up with good opposistion in the past. i also don’t think haye was “bragging” about who he had beaten after the fight, in fact he gave respect to him for fighting him, but was “bragging” about the nature of the way he beat him. but how you can say he has done nothing? three world titles in 21 fights is great at the least and he has never backed down from a challange. and i think what ukansodoff meant when he mentioned haye being a breath of fresh air was that it is nice to see a fighter who has ambition, a desire, an exciting style of fighting and a good pedigree to back it up looking to challange for a heavyweight title.

  • Adam says:

Well, ukansodoff,i am American and the Klitschko’s are originally from the Ukrain, and if they were fron Britain you would be praising them so much it would be rediculous as you should be.But because their not British you wanna put him down and bring up the big mouth David Haye. Why is David Haye a breath of fresh air, because he has a big mouth?Well i dont work like that. All he has done is run his mouth thats it.Wladimir has beaten everybody in the Heavyweight division and deserves respect. Not some bum that walks into the Heavyweight division running his mouth about how he is gonna beat the Klitschko’s and clean up the division. Then comes in and fights a 37 year old nobody. Then brags about it.I give the Klitschko’s their respect because they deserve it.They handle themselves with class and don’t need to run their mouth to bring attention to themselve. They do their talkin in the ring. And that’s what i admire.I personally have nothing against the Brits,in fact i like the Brit’s,but your bias is 100% ignorant.David Haye has done nothing, and isnt gonna do anything. And you guys will soon find this out. When he starts gettin hit by 250 and 260 pund Heavyweights you and David Haye will take a step back and realize that big mouths get shut real quick in the Heavyweight divion especially by the K Bros.

  • ukansodoff says:

Adam I dont see what you see in Haye. Hes fast and strong. hes been stopped once at a weight he always struggled to stay at which does weaken the body. (though i do question his chin myself)

If anytihng, even if he doesnt smash up the 2 brothers, hes a breath of fresh air in the heavyweight division.

It doesnt seem so much that you dont rate him but you actually dont like him? Is it cuz hes British and is much better than what America has to offer at this moment at heavy?

  • Adam says:

Hey moderator sorry about the bad language but these fu*ksticks don’t know what their talking about.

  • jan says:

some good points dave…. i see it exactly the same way. but think haye can beat wlad right here and now – and much easier than some might predict. He’s probably the strongest puncher in the division, and i believe haye’s chin is underestimated.
with vitali it’s another matter, as he’s a granite chin… this is a combination of speed, power, stamina and especially punch resistance. haye will hit klitschko, but vitali might be able to take it. then the question is if haye will take what vitali can dish out? he’s a good chance to get hit, even provided vitali is one of the slowest hw champs ever, his timing is still good. and he’s not that easy to hit due to his awkward style

  • Adam says:

The Klitschko’s boxing ability is so far and away from everybody else in the world that they make people look like idiots in the ring. Are they unbeatable?Of coarse not.Absolutely nobody is unbeatable, but all i hear from you schmucks is that there’s nobody in the heavyweight division.Well you morons thats not the Klitschko’s fault. And the Klitschko’s have gotten in the ring with everybody that has challenged them. And i mean everybody. They completely dominate the opposing fighters. They’ve both had some bumps in the process but that is something that can be expected.they hold 4 of the 5 Heavyweight belts and will soon have all 5.So if you Haye lovers think the klitschko’s are gonna dodge a twerp like David Haye, you are sadly mistaken. The Klischko Brothers have beaten every Heavyweight contender in the world and aren’t even close to being done.Fortunately David Haye will be next on Vitaly’s list. And i’m glad to say Haye’s mouth will only be spewing ignorance for a few more months, then he will be embarassed like the little coward he is.

  • A - Force says:

Haye will knock out every single heavyweight out there including them 2 Klitschko puffs

  • marciaono says:

    arreola by KO kO KO

  • Adam says:

They both are class C fighters.Arreola can at least take a punch. They would both be murdered against the Klitschko’s and that’s all that matters. But in all honesty i would have to say Haye would win only if Arreolo didn’t hit him first. The both suck to be honest. To watch these 2 fight makes me see that the Klitschko’s are so much better than everybody else in the world.

  • SB1 says:

    Arreola by KO :!:

  • Frazer Devine says:

    Two bombers….

Lets look back at the Haye vs Macrenelli bought, both big hitters, both capable of knocking each other out, however, it was Haye’s speed that prevailed and i think thats will happen in this match up.

Speed AND power is a much greater advantage than just having power.

Haye victory all the way, but as Matt says, anything can happen!

  • ukansodoff says:

I think that these types of comments will be put towards all the fights Haye is guna have at heavyweight.

Everyone he faces will have the power to knock Haye out and Haye will not have his gaurd high cuz hes happy with the way he fights. But he will also have the speed and power to knock out anybody he faces.

and all this does is make fights interesting and exciting.

  • matt says:

Haye vs Arreola would be a matter of who can land the KO punch first. The fight wouldn’t make it past 3. I think Haye would win as he’s quicker and far more skillful whilst still having solid power at heavyweight, but anything could happen.

  • jan says:

I firmly believe Haye would destroy him…
Another thing – I have no doubts that Barrett is a class above T. Walker…
A couple points some might miss here is: a/ Arreola never fought anyone serious and Haye did
b/ Arreola was wobbled by Domonic Jenkins and put down by Walker. I guarantee – Haye hits much harder

To summarize – the first thing is, I don’t believe Arreola belongs to the same class. Hope they’ll meet in the ring

  • dave says:

as a brit i would like to see haye win, but i personally think that after a knockdown or two, arreola would knock him out in the 4th-5th round.

however, if haye had at least another 3 fights against good top ten opposition and better adjusted to the division then i think he may have a much better chance in winning and taking arreola’s bombs.
