Should Mayweather Return?

mayweather4332456.jpgBy Peter Taylor: Floyd Mayweather Jr., one of the greatest boxers of his generation but yet we still have doubts whether he is a one of the greatest of all time.

Since Mayweather retierd after his knockout victory over Ricky Hatton last year a lot has happened, the unbeatable Cotto has been vanquished, the emergence of a focused warrior Antonio Margarito along with the talent of Andre Berto coming to the show. I think now is time for Mayweather to return to the ring and cement his name in boxing history.

Floyd is already regarded as one of the best defensive fighters in boxing history but he has also been accused of ducking fights but i think after nearly a year out he should seriously start thinking of a return to a division which he dominated and that would make some spectacular fights. With Cotto, Margarito, Andre Berto, Joshua Clottey and Paul Williams all in the welterweight division at the moment and with fighters like Hatton and Paulie Malignaggi willing to step up, there is a lot of fights which Floyd could win and other match-ups which would please boxing fans with the mixture of different styles.

Now is a time for Floyd to use his god given talent, stop his reputation of picking fights for money and finally fulfill his potential and claim a place in most boxing fans greatest ever fighters by beating the stars he has dodged for so long.

    Ben, Good Shout on wembly!
I dont think it matters where the fight was, Hatton v Mayweather at LW would be a great fight.

I dont think anyone can call Mayweather a coward, he was a good fighter with alot of talent and basically done what he had to do to beat opponents, so the way the fights were organised were very clever.

Oscar out of his prime…..iv wayched re run after re run of that fight and it was CLOSE! almost to close to call, Oscar in his prime would KO’d Mayweather!

Hatton at LW……he has fought so many different types of fighters, KZ to take the IBF title who was considered the best pound for pound fighter in the world, the lesser champ Carlos Maussa a very wild puncher with a long reach, not to mention the Welter weight champs he fought and beat!

I think the only way of Mayweather clarifing that he was, is and always will be the best is to fight a real hard champion in there prime!

he should stay retired, he’s not interested in a real competition anyway.. it’s not greed that made him retire early.he could earn million bucks on the rematch with dela hoya but he ran away… look how coward he is, running from an old man.. he knows he loss the 1st fight. all he does is duck all good opponents and brag with his big mouth that he is best!! haha..what a joke!!

  • B says:

Mayweather is a COWARD!!! fights Hatton who had to move up in weight, and Oscar who is well passed his prime, yet I had the fight a draw. Mayweather could beat Cotto maybe, I don’t know but Pual Williams and Margarito woud destroy him. I think he is to scared for any of the fighters I just mentioned…that is why he retired, I think he knew Oscar would win second time round so he called it a day also.

Only if he is willing to fight the best at WW; Margarito, Cotto, Williams and Clottey. If not boxing will continue witout him.

  • Faz says:

Mayweather shunt return people forget hes taken on the best in hatton del hoya carlos baldimoir jesus chaves gatti so many good fighters the reason he retired is because he had nothing to prove and if he came back hed easily go through theme again

  • ZKO says:

Only if he needs the money. Someone’s got to explain how boxers go broke after multi-million dollar fights.

  • boxing don says:

He should stay retired. The haters would love for him to lose his unbeaten status. I would demand a ungodly amount and if they are willing to pay, then fight. Something like 30 mill. If he waits another 6 months, he would be able to out box Margarito. Don’t get me wrong Margarito is good but did you see how slow he was against Cotto. It took him 7 rounds to stop really touching Cotto. Floyd could move counter and get off first and be gone by the time Margarito tries to answer. Would be a good fight but Floyd would out point Margarito

  • tyler says:

what the hell are you people talking about mayweather sr never trained oscar foir his fiht with his son roach did

  • Blaza says:

Nahhh let him stay retired or join the track team since all he does is RUN…

  • karldan says:

if his dad is that good then why did oscer not beat him???? a-force i totally agree with you that hatton wouldnt win no matter what. a we all no oscer would beat hatton!!! mayweather was a is the best end of

  • A - Force says:

As much as I love to see our English fighters win I dont think it would happend if he fought floyd again. I am a massive fan of mayweather and I honestly think there isnt a guy out there that could beat him. Its a shame cos Ricky Hatton really is a fan favourite and the whole country would like to see him win (apart from me). I havnt got anything agaisnt the hit man he is a fantastic boxer but simply not as good as Mayweather. Regardless of where and when if they fought again it would be the same outcome, the nation would be gutted

  • Ben says:

That was me (Anonymous)…don’t know why my name nver came up?

  • Anonymous says:

Bits , let me just say that if Hatton and Mayweather do have a rematch in England then it will NOT be in the MEN Arena which only seats 22, 000…this would sell out Wembley stadium!!! Because of Floyd’s inactivity, Hatton’s home crowd and the fact that Mayweather Snr trains Hatton and know’s how to beat he’s son, I think Hatton has a great chance.
Mayweather needs to start fighting propa fighters and stop ducking Margarito or Williams who are the best welters…I think they would both beat Mayweather…Williams would KO him too.

  • karldan says:

hatton would NOT beat mayweather no matter what weight they fought at

  • Bilts says:

Personally I think Mayweather should return and fight.
Given the time he could move up up or down a weight which he has obviously done before.
He has big fight opotunities at Welter with Margarito Williams, Hatton at Light Welter, possibly even super featherweight to fight Pac.

There are fights out there which Mayweather can take to clarify what he shouts about so much.

I want to see Mayweather V Hatton at Light Welter, MEN Arena, with NO JOE CORTEZ……total different story!

  • John Drake says:

Since winning the Welterweight title from Judah he’s done nothing but duck every legitimate opponent. His toughest opponent as a welterweight was Hatton, who already proved he had nothing at welter after squeaking out a win over Collazo. Let him stay retired unless he’s willing to take on Williams or Margarito.

  • ali says:

great fighter so gifted, and amazing to watch hope he does come back
