Ustinov, 31, a 6’7” 300 lb heavyweight from Belarus, now promoted reportedly by K2 East, the company owned by Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, had an easy time defeating Fields. Ustinov, a former kicking boxing star and K1 participant, dropped Fields in the 2nd round with a right hand. However, he was unable to finish him off due to the constant movement of Fields. Ustinov, fighting like a larger, slightly heavier version of Vitali Klitschko, calmly picked Fields apart all fight long, hitting him with jabs, hooks and straight right hands while showing patience at Fields’ constant clowning around in the ring, and playing to the crowd.

Fields, 35, rarely initiated his own offense, instead focusing mostly on taunting Ustinov, letting him know that his punches weren’t bothering him and constantly waving for him to come forward and attack him. At that, Fields’ needn’t have bothered, for Ustinov was hitting him repeatedly all fight long with excellent hooks and jabs to the head.

By the end of the fight, Fields, who was treating the fight like an exhibition, sported a swollen face from the many punches he was forced to eat during the bout,. Ustinov, who previously helped Vitali Klitschko spar for his cancelled bout with Jameel McCline, fought in an almost identical style to the older Klitschko brother, showing the same powerful right hand, left hook and jab as Klitschko.

If it weren’t for his extra 50 lbs of weight, not to mention his receding hairline, you’d have thought that Ustinov and Klitschko were the same person. He looked awfully good for a fighter with only eight fights under his belt, good enough possibly to beat one or all of the current heavyweight champions in the division. Very little has been said about him in the media but he clearly is a force to be reckoned with in the near future. I doubt that they’re going to wait too long to rush him up the latter because of his age, 31, which means he has to be brought up faster than he perhaps should be. However, he looks very polished and clearly has had an excellent training background judging from his polished ring skills against Fields.

In the 1st round, Ustinov began picking off Fields from the outside, using his long reach to jab from a safe distance. Fields, after taking a big right hand from Ustinov, began to wave for him to come forward, as if he wanted more. This kind of taunting would continue all through the bout, leading eventually to two point deductions from Fields. I doubt seriously that it bothered Fields, the point deductions, because he looked like he was just there to serve the purpose of a sparring partner than to actually try and win the fight. Going into the fight, Fields had lost seven consecutive fights, and his once slender physique was now coated with a substantial amount of fat around his midsection.

In the 2nd round, Ustinov landed a hard left-right combination that dropped Fields to the canvas. Fields shook his head if to say he wasn’t hurt but he looked shaken from the knockdown. Ustinov did little to go for a knockout, instead patiently bombing Fields with left hooks and straight right hands from afar.

In the 3rd round, Fields received his first point deduction after spinning Ustinov around from behind. He later landed some choice right hands to the head of Fields.

In the 5th round, Ustinov opened up with a flurry of shots while Fields was trapped against the ropes. It looked for certain that Fields was going to go down because he was taking some tremendous shots from Ustinov, yet he somehow survived the round. It was an especially hard round for Fields because he took a number of hard shots during that onslaught from Ustinov, reddening Fields’ face in the process.

Ustinov began to fight with his mouth open during the last three rounds, although it didn’t seem to effect his punch output, which remained high during this time. In rounds seven and eight, he landed punishing straight right hands and left hooks of the jab, catching Fields’ often.
