Braithwaite vs. Yoan Pablo Hernandez On March 29th
Former Cuban amateur star undefeated Yoan Pablo Hernandez (14-0, 8 KOs) will be going up against former WBC cruiserweight champion Wayne Braithwaite (22-3, 18 KOs) on March 29th at the Sparkassen-Arena, Kiel, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It’s a bold move by Hernandez’s management, who must feel that he has the skills and power to beat the veteran Braithwaite at this early stage of Hernandez’s career.
A former 2004 Olympian for the Cuban National team, the 6′4″ southpaw Hernandez was considered to be one of the future stars for the Cuban team. However, he left the country after 2005, leaving for Germany, where he’s easily dispatched his first 14 opponents. Though Hernandez is considered to be a tremendous puncher, his power is still quite good. However, what makes him so hard to beat is his huge 6′4″ frame and his excellent boxing skills which make him hard to match up. At this time, Germany is awash with cruiserweights from other countries, such as Alexander Alexeev, the former 2004 Olympian for Russia, and Alexander Frenkel, from Ukraine.
Hernandez isn’t easy to hit, though, as he slips punches exceptionally well and uses his height and reach to keep shorter fighters on the outside. Braithwaite, 6′0″, isn’t considered to be small for a cruiserweight, but next to the 6′4″ Hernandez, it may seem that way.
