Darchinyan-Gorres Ruled A Draw

In another disappointing career set back, former International Boxing Federation flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (29-1-1, 23 KOs) fought to a 12-round split draw decision tonight against Z Gorres (27-2-2, 15 KOs) in an IBF super flyweight eliminator bout at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, in Cebu, Philippines. 113-112 (for Gorres), 114-112 for (Darchinyan) and 113-113. Darchinyan knocked Gorres, 25, down in the 1st round and 9th rounds, while Gorres knocked Darchinyan down in the 2nd round.

The crowd was badly angered after both knockdowns of Gorres, and rained bottles into the ring as they showed their displeasure with their fighter being knocked down. The fight was extremely close with both fighters going toe-to-toe with furious exchanges until late in the fight, when Darchinyan appeared to be taking over the fight due to his superior power.
