Pascal Decisions Pittman, Moves Ahead To Showdown With Miranda
For the second consecutive fight, undefeated contender Jean Pascal (21-0, 14 KOs) had to struggle in the process of winning, this time against Omar Pittman (15-4-1, 8 KOs), defeating him by a hard fought 10-round unanimous decision last night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Hollywood, Florida. Pascal, 25, was impressive in the early rounds, using his blazing handspeed and powerful shots to drop Pittman in the 2nd round. Pascal built on his early lead, and by the 7th round there was no question that he was going to cruise to victory. However, in the 7th round, Pascal got careless and ran into big right hand that briefly hurt him.
Pittman, 25 landed several more good shots before the round was over but failed to capitalize on Pascal’s condition. In the next round, Pascal began using his powerful body shots and jab to keep Pittman in control. However, Pascal was hurt again when Pittman landed another huge right hand shot to the head. However, he was too wild with his shots to follow up with a the finishing shot on Pascal.
Though hardly impressive, Pascal moves on with this victory to a potential match-up with super middleweight Edison Miranda, ranked #11 in the World Boxing Organization, and who easily won his bout with former star from “The Contender,” blasting him out of the ring with a big right hand in the 3rd round. In contrast to Pascal’s performance, Miranda looked light years ahead of him in ability and overall power. Miranda may not have nearly as much speed as Pascal, but the power he showed tonight against Banks was nothing less than awe inspiring.
