Miranda Wants Shot At Pavlik vs. Taylor II Winner
In the latest boxing news, super middleweight Edison Miranda commented after his 3rd round KO of David Banks on Friday that he wants to fight either Kelly Pavlik or Jermain Taylor, whoever comes out on top between the two of them. Apparently, Miranda isn’t particularly interested in fighting unbeaten Canadian super middleweight Jean Pascal, saying “I don’t want to fight Pascal. He’s a deadbeat.” Miranda perhaps was saying in reference to Pascal’s poor performance against Omar Pittman on Friday night, a bout in which Pittman came close to stopping Pascal in the 7th and 8th rounds.
No doubt, Miranda understands that either Taylor or Pavlik would mean a much bigger pay day for him, since both of them are two of the most popular fighters in the middleweight division. Sadly, Pascal isn’t, and judging by the way he looked against Pittman, he’d likely never be. However, it remains doubtful that either Taylor or Pavlik would be interested in a bout with Miranda, because both of them would possibly be trying to line up a fight with Joe Calzaghe, who by that time will have already soundly beaten Bernard Hopkins. I can’t blame Miranda, though, for wanting to fight Pavlik again.
Miranda looked awful in losing to him in a 7th round TKO in May 2007. As much as Miranda might want the fight, it would hardly be one of interest for Pavlik at this point in his career, being that he dominated Miranda thoroughly from the outset, and there no question in people’s minds who the better fighter was between them. Pavlik would likely not be interested in going over old ground, that is, unless he was well paid for it. For that to happen, Miranda’s going to have to beat several top fighters, starting with Pascal.
