Katsidis Interested In Bout With Pacquiao

Undefeated World Boxing Organization lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (23-0, 20 KOs) is reportedly very interested in a bout with super flyweight Manny Pacquiao, obviously thinking of the potential big money a fight like this could make for Katsidis. However, for it to happen, if Pacquiao is even interested, both fighters would have to clear a few big hurfdles in the way. Pacquiao (45-3, 35 KOs) has a bout with Juan Manuel Marquez for the World Boxing Council super featherweight championship on March 15th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If everything goes alright in that bout, Pacquiao will then be facing David Diaz, the World Boxing Council lightweight champion. To top it off, Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, have expressed interest in fighting Ricky Hatton, who was recently beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Katsidis, for his part, has a bout with Joel Casamayor on March 22nd, and that’s likely to be a very tough bout for the young Katsidis. In his last fight, he struggled badly with Czar Amonsot, winning a grueling 12-round unanimous decision, a bout in which Katsidis received two bad cuts above both eyes.

The bout should have been stopped much earlier with Amonsot getting the win due to the severity of the cuts, but somehow the fight was allowed to continue. Katsidis, it would appear, doesn’t seem to have good skin and with the amount of scar tissue above both eyes from his last bout, it will be a minor miracle if he can escape the bout with Casamayor without being further sliced and diced up.
