Calzaghe Bout Near - Hopkins

According to Boxingtalk website, light heavyweight Bernard Hopkins is saying that he thinks that Joe Calzaghe and him should have a contract signed by sometime next week for a bout likely to occur between April 11th-12th, to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Apparently, Calzaghe and Hopkins have an oral agreement to the fight, Hopkins told boxintalk. Of course, that means little, as you well know, as Hopkins, who has been pursued continuously by Calzaghe, 35, for the past two months, could change his mind if the money isn’t right when it comes to signing the contract for the fight.

Hopkins, 42, went on to say that this bout, if it is indeed made, will be one of the biggest fights in boxing. Although many boxing fans would tend to disagree with Hopkins, as he doesn’t appear to be even the best fighter in the light heavyweight division. A better bout would be for Calzaghe to meet up with Chad Dawson, who many people feel is the best light heavyweight in the division. However, this isn’t really about excellence going up against excellence, because Calzaghe has publically made it known that he’s after money first and foremost, making this fight more of an entertainment exorcise than one of champion against champion.

    Christian:

I think, Hopkins is hoping to intimidate

Calzaghe enough to win, that’s probably his best chance, and he is scary, i’ll give him that.

    bad boy benny:

Even if joe is fighting just for the money its about time he made it he’s been on top for tens years not many fighter have done that…
Im looking forward to hopkins geting a good slap he might just stop running his mouth at last!!!!

    ZKO:

If Hopkins pulls this off, which I doubt he will, he should go down as one of the great pound for pound champions in history. If Calzaghe wins, welcome to the elite, money making status.
