Witter Wants Bout With Hatton

World Boxing Council junior welterweight champion Junior Witter (36-1-2, 21 KOs) wants to arrange a bout with fellow Britain Ricky Hatton, offering him recently a financial incentive for the two to get in the right as early as next Summer. Witter, 33, is hoping that Hatton will look in his direction, since he’s already looking for an opponent for his comeback bout in May. However, Hatton has seemingly avoided Witter for years, always ignoring his public challenges which have come frequently over the years.

The British public has been clamoring for two to get in the ring for years, but Hatton has instead chosen to ignore Witter for some reason, instead taking on less dangerous fighters like an over-the-hill Jose Luis Castillo and Kostya Tszyu, to name two of Hatton’s best opponents in his career. Aside from them, Hatton has largely taken on less-skilled fighters in his career, which seems to indicate that he may have a fear of facing Witter, perhaps knowing that it’s not a fight that he matches up well with.

Witter’s promoter, Mick Hennessy, has recently said, “We won’t be greedy and would be happy for Hatton to take the lion’s share of the purse. It’d make sense.” There it is, Witter’s camp is making the fight easy for Hatton to sign, if he is so inclined, but it’s up to him whether he has the drive to take on a touch challenge like Witter, especially after his humiliating destruction by Floyd Mayweather on December 8th.

As Mayweather showed, Hatton had no plan B to fall back on once he discovered that his bull-like fighting techniques weren’t going to work for him against Mayweather. Hatton unfortunately was shown that he’s basically only able to fight in one style by Mayweather.

    Imran Ali:

Not clueless hatton haters on this site ron, just the public expressing their views. Its a stone cold fact, witters style dosnt last long so hatton will hold on for a few more years until the witter reflexes arent what they used to be and finally step up to the challange. Hatton claims to be the best in the world, he still hasnt proved hes the best in Britain

    ZKO:

“Hate” to say it, but Ricky has been exposed… the writer makes a good point about Ricky not having a plan B. Perhaps a change in trainer will help because the kid does have raw talent.

    ron u.k.:

so we’re now letting clueless ricky hatton haters write these articles.
