Hatton Questions Mayweather’s Courage

In the latest war of words between undefeated Rikcy Hatton and Floyd Mayweather, Hatton, 29, has questioned Mayweather’s heart, saying “I’ve never seen Floyd dig deep, grab the bull by the horns and pull a fight out of the bag.” Hatton appears to have a point, as Mayweather has mostly dominated or out right destroyed his opposition in his career. Obviously, what Hatton has left out, however, is that Mayweather has been so good, he hasn’t had to show any heart, fighting most of the time in a casual, workmanlike manner as he systematically destroys his over-matched opposition.

Hatton did point out, however, Mayweather’s hardest struggle, his bout with Jose Luis Castillo in 2002, commenting “A lot of people thought Jose Luis Castillo beat Mayweather (in 2002), and Castillo in his prime wasn’t as good as me.” Hatton appeared to have a point, though, as Mayweather had struggled badly to beat Castillo on two occasions, with many people feeling that Mayweather had in fact lost the first fight and fought to a draw in the 2nd fight with Castillo.

In contrast, Hatton recently destroyed Castillo in the 4th round in their June 2007, after having dominated Castillo in the first three rounds of the fight. To this, Mayweather would say that “Castillo was over the hill” by the time Hatton fought him, meaning that the victory doesn’t count as much as Mayweather’s narrow wins. Hatton also had this to say about Mayweather, “I’m sure he’s in the best shape of his life, but he does not realize how good I am and that’s going to be a shock.”

Hatton is doing a lot of mouthing off. He is going to be made to look foolish, when Mayweather schools him.
