“Collazo Beat Hatton. He Got a Gift” - Mayweather

In a recent press conference, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (38-0, 24 KOs) continued with his barrage of insults towards his opponent Ricky Hatton, whom he faces on December 8th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather, asserted that Hatton had lost to Luis Collazo, in their welterweight bout in May 2006 bout in which Hatton narrowly won by unanimous decision. At the time of their fight, Hatton was the World Boxing Association welterweight champion and was defending it against Collazo, a fighter known mostly as a defensive fighter, who mainly counter punches. Hatton did by far the more work in the bout with Collazo seemingly content to counter punch until late in the bout when Collazo suddenly began making a surge.

By then, however, it was too late and barring a knockdown or a knockout, Collazo was going to lose the bout. Collazo did land well in the 12th round, and appeared to briefly stun Hatton, but that was the extent of it. Hatton, though, moved back down from the welterweight division back to the light welterweight class, because he was clearly too small for the division. However, as close as the fight was, it wasn’t as close as Mayweather’s two bouts against Jose Luis Castillo, so Mayweather’s kind of ignoring his own close calls with tough opponents.

“Ricky Hatton lost to Collazo. He got a gift,” Mayweather said.
